pacemaker

Avatar n tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Has he been evaluated for gastroparesis with a gastric emptying scan? How many calories is he getting each day? I don't think a gastric pacemaker would help because gastric pacemakers help with nausea and vomiting but they don't actually speed up the emptying of the stomach.
512694 tn?1216161406 That's right - size doesn't matter. If it's located in a sensitive area, you're going to feel it. Let's hope in 10 days you feel better. (I've never heard of gastric pacemaker, just the regular pacemaker for the heart. I'll have to look it up and learn something new.
584742 tn?1219148217 I have had been diagnosed with gastroparesis for a couple of years now. My nausea is getting worse. About a year a go my gastroenteroligist and I thought about a gastric pacemaker, but not many had been done and the results were iffy. Since then I have been reduced to eating hummus, fat free smoothies and uhhh, well that is about it if I don't want to feel like **** for the rest of the day. I am either allergic to the drugs available or they don't work.

Avatar m tn I received the gastric pacemaker 5 weeks ago. I have had a big decline in the nausea and vomiting, but have developed a seroma. This IS extremely painful, The Dr. has put me on some very strong painkillers that leave me very groggy and completely out of it. I have no idea when I can return to work or to a normal life. I am going to see the Dr. again in 2 days. Does anyone know how long this takes to resolve? The pain is unbearble. It just got worse every day since the surgery.
Avatar f tn He had surgery on March 1, 2010 to have a gastric pacemaker implanted. For the last 8 years, they controlled the symptoms with Reglan, Carafate, Phenergan, and Zofran. They started not to work and that is when his Dr suggested a gastric pacemaker. So far, it's working. There have been other complications though. He is experiencing reatractable pain, but the Dr. is managing his pain right now. I can tell you from experience though...
Avatar f tn In many cases the use of acupuncture is known to help those with gastroparesis - in a manner similar to what might be done by the gastric pacemaker. The location of the motor stimulus of the gastric pacemaker is suggested to be placed at the input areas the acupuncture sites 'feed' to.
Avatar n tn I heard about a pacemaker that they can insert to stimulate the colon, is this something that will be available in the near future? Could these disorders be caused by my back surgery? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Sorry you haven't gotten any input from someone with experience. So far I have been spared needing a pacemaker...but I know others who have them and have read about them here...so here's what I think: 1) It appears your new pacemaker needs to be "adjusted" 2) I don't understand the old stable 80 bpm pace maker, didn't your heart rate go up when you were moving about, going up stairs say?
Avatar n tn A holter monitor showed multiple slowing and stopping episodes of my heart.I had a pacemaker placed.Have you ever heard of vagal nerve damage after this surgery?Would it cause these symptoms?
Avatar f tn I am 62 yrs. old .I had Gall Bladder surgery in 2009 and was still very sick and in severe pain. I then found out i had Gastro Paresis. I am on lots of medications but none seem to help. I live with severe pain and can hardly eat anything at all.I only take percocet10 because my Pain dr. doesn't agree that i need anything stronger. My gastrol dr. would like me to be on a regular stronger pain patch.
Avatar n tn I am 28 and suffer from severe gastric peresis. I have had a j tube and a gastric pacemaker placed a year ago. I was doing great with the pacer for about a year and have just hit the wall again. I am vomitting at least 10 -15 times a day and also having to take heavy narcotics for the pain.
Avatar f tn Ask your Dr. about Reglan. That's what I take for my gastroparesis and that's a pretty common drug for gastroperesis here in the states. Also, if you find no relief from meds look into a gastric stimulator implant. It's surgery, but it helps. I got one put in this past summer. It sends a shock to your stomach every 3-4 seconds so your stomach is stimulated and empties food. It really helps with the nausea. For information about this implant go to this link: http://www.medtronic.
Avatar f tn If these things prove unsuccessful, you can also try an NJ tube, GJ tube, or J tube. A more permanent solution would be a gastric pacemaker. My GI is sending me to Temple University Hospital, where I can get specialized treatment. They are highly renounced physicians and specialize in digestive diseases.
Avatar f tn Now they are suggesting gastric pacemaker, but I am wondering if that will work since the results came in the normal range. I'm just frustrated and want to actually be able to eat a meal!
564032 tn?1216312671 I had gastroparisis and had the stomach pacemaker put in in Aug 2008, it did not help me and in Dec. 008 they removed my stomach. I am doing some what better but my life hasn't changed all that much except I can eat most anything now, the bad thing is I am down to 80 lbs and can't seem to gain anymore.
Avatar f tn The latest treatment involves implantation of a device in the abdominal wall, with electrodes sutured to the stomach. This new treatment is offered at the Cleveland Clinic and the “pacemaker” can be inserted laparoscopically. The Cleveland Clinic is among the few centers in the United States to implant this device laparoscopically. For additional information on this therapy, please visit the manufacturers Web site.

Avatar f tn Now I have a 2 leads St Jude pacemaker. I also got 3 leads in my heart. The current pacemaker is number 4. It implanted in 2002. Not the new model require 2 leads. It depends how many leads that your husband needs. Oh, I rather say it depends your husband's EP choose how many leads for him! They're one lead, two leads. three leads and even four leads pacemaker in the market. Does your husband still has wpw? Was he had the open heart surgery for wpw?
Avatar f tn t work, then there are surgical options. This includes feeding tubes (NJ, GJ, or J tubes), gastric pacemaker, botox injections, or surgery to remove part of the stomach.
8008719 tn?1396545926 Well rarely is enough for me. Anyone in canada know of someone willing to take this seriously? I asked if I have no cad why angina then and got well the bridge can cause that. After researching I found bridges are not as "benign" as I was lead to believe. That my fib and my av blocks could actually be caused by this as well as increase in sudden cardiac death.
Avatar n tn But the pacemaker might allow him to survive the surgery.....however implanting the pacemaker is a risk in itself! Quite a lot of older dogs go through surgery ok. But it depends on what surgery, and it depends on their overall condition for their age. I they are generally well, the risks are greatly lessened. It sounds as if he is in quite bad shape. In my opinion, the worst-case scenario would be that he didn't survive the surgery.
Avatar m tn She next sees a higher up Specialist with a view to getting a gastric pacemaker installed. Drugs will not work for her. She already has successful deep brain and spinal implants from Medtronic for back pain control. She will truly be bionic! It will be her 51st surgery.
