Avatar m tn "It is not a narcotic, therefore much easier to taper down your dose." I respectfully disagree. Gabapentin can be downright dangerous to come off if not done right, and in THIS case, we're talking very high doses. OP, I agree completely with vicki that you need to seek medical attention for this, and soon. You are risking very a serious health crisis taking the much Neurontin. PLEASE read the info below.
Avatar m tn What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for.
Avatar n tn Previcox For Dogs Review By James on November 17th, 2010 Previcox is an anti-inflammatory pain reliever that also reduces fever in dogs. This prescription medication is given to dogs that have just received surgery, have arthritis, or for other complications as prescribed by your vet. You shouldn’t give Previcox to your dog if it is allergic to aspirin or is taking other NSAID pain relievers. Your vet can determine if your dog is allergic to aspirin with a simple test if you are unsure.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.

Avatar f tn SUBOXONE is a class of Opiates....Yes, like Opium! It is actually used for pain management in dogs and drug addiction in people......However, your girl has had a very high dose....... Sedation is the #1 side effect and it's also used for this purpose......It can be taken 2-4 times a day for pain....Overdose is rare in people, but I don't know about puppies.....You didn't say how old a puppy she is....... The reason she cannot walk is that she is "loaded"!

Avatar n tn I've never heard of trazodone's being prescribed for dogs. And yes, 50mg for a shih-tzu is a toxic dose. It is pure luck that the dog did not die within the first 24 hours. A trazodone overdose can cause death by heart arrhythmia. By all means, take the dog to the vet. And please don't ever, ever again give your dog any medication that was not prescribed or approved by a veterinarian. Hopefully, your shih-tzu is going to live, but she very easily could have died.

Avatar f tn Hi all, I'm now 17 days clean of opiates. I was using 20ish 10/325s a day when I quit, with a habit that spanned over three years. Like many, this is not my first rodeo. I've tried to quit in the past and the lack of energy always nudged me back to those grievous little yellow pills. I've seen some recent talk on the boards about Gabapentin being used to manage opiate withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin or Neurontin its trade name from Pfizer actually mimics the bodys or brains own reward system known as Gaba Gama Amino Butyric Acid hence the name GABApentin however it does not lock into the same receptors according to the full prescribing info it is not known how it actually functions as is the case with many drugs but in double blind placebo studies has shown remarkable capabability in stopping cravings in any drug dependence.
