Avatar m tn Overdosage A lethal dose of Gabapentin was not identified in mice and rats receiving single oral doses as high as 8000 mg/kg. Signs of acute toxicity in animals included ataxia, labored breathing, ptosis, sedation, hypoactivity, or excitation. Acute oral overdoses of Gabapentin up to 49 grams have been reported. In these cases, double vision, slurred speech, drowsiness, lethargy, and diarrhea, were observed. All patients recovered with supportive care.
Avatar f tn So my dr gave me gabapentin for tramadol withdrawals. It has helped wonderfully. This was 7 days ago. So I think I am over the withdrawals from the tramadol but I have been taking high doses of gabapentin in that 7 days. Like anywhere from 900-1800mg a day to stave off withdrawals. My question is how long will it take to develop a gabapentin addiction because I've read horror stories about the withdrawals.
Avatar m tn 40 mg nexium daily for 4 months, gabapentin 300mg daily for two month, fluticasone 2 puffs twice a day for two months For about 5 months, I've dealt with difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, and chest pain. It was not until two months ago that I diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis and possible GERD. Despite the diagnosis, my endoscopy did not show enough eosinophils per high power field for a diagnosis off the biopsy.
293157 tn?1285873439 However the gabapentin has not seemed to help my hand, as this pain continues despite titrating to such a high dose. I recently started on amitriptyline for my neuropathic pain, am up to 50mg per day, and I think it is helping. The stabbing and burning sensations are lessened, although the numbness and incoordination remain. Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin.
Avatar f tn Also, some drugs have to be at a higher dose to work while others can work in small doses and work together well with others..Gabapentin seems to work well at high doses. You will get used to the tiredness (if you have it) soon. If you need to get off of it it took me a long time because I didn't have antoher drug to substitute to get off of it with so I used Benedryl to sleep because if you go off of it you taper and it gives you insomnia.
Avatar f tn I am om hydromorphone, gabapentin,500 mg tylono snce last April. I have become jittery. Now they want to add effexor. I am getting frightened by all this.
359574 tn?1328360424 I'm on gabapentin right now for nerve pain. There isn't any real problems to worry about. It does take a little while to kick in, though---I didn't notice results until 2 months on the pills. Also, if your dosage is increased, you might feel a little dizzy the first few days as you adjust. Otherwise, I like the results I've been given.
Avatar m tn ve been having muscular pain in the shoulder area around the teres major/minor or infraspinitus it feels like somebody is twisting the muscle sending pain shooting down my arm, my doctor has prescribed first co codamol 30-500s then gave me gabapentin then changed the co-codamol to dihydrocodine, the problem i have is that the amount i was prescribed to take is not working , I have increased the dosage of gabapentin (as suggested by doctor) to 900mg and the dihydrocodine (not by doctors advice) t
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar f tn hi.. I can't help with this because I'm in the same type of situation and working with my Dr to find the right meds for me. I'm dx with PPMS and getting meds for symptoms only.. I take gabapentin.. I had uped the dosage to 2400mg a day... and found my Vertigo started up daily and I had to lower my dose to 1800mg..which so far has helped abit with the Vertigo but I seem to have pain in the evening...deep muscle pain in my thigh area.

4186651 tn?1357830957 Has anyone else taken Gabapentin for all of these pains neuralgia migraines? I'm petrified to take this drug because of all the bad side affects! Did it help or harm anyone? Or should I wait to see the NS first before I take it?
1140966 tn?1268354482 I have another post further below that wasn't getting responses that i added this one to so i just thought id start a new one for just this one question. I'm prescribed as one of my anxiety medications 3,600 and have really high blood pressure for my age 144/81 I've heard gabepentin can cause heart problems so i figured it might be the cause and my heart tends to beat faster then a normal person when i take gabapentin.
Avatar f tn It's been over a year since I started treatment (again) for major depression. The onset of my depression has always been related to relationship issues. This time I'm married to a man with a tendency to be verbally abusive. While getting out of the marriage may be the answer, it's not that easy. And coupled with the depression, I'm unable to make the move.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
6937315 tn?1386287618 Has anyone ever been put on gabapentin for severe anxiety/panic disorder? My doctor just prescribed it for me to help ween me off xanax that I've been on for 7 years. Was wondering if this has ever helped anyone?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Guys, has anyone out there been on Gabapentin without weight gain??? I've only been on it a few months, and I have gained about 8 lbs. already. What other, if there is another.... pain control can we use that DOES not make us Gain weight. It also makes me kinda spacey, but does seem to help sometimes. I was wondering if it is OK to taper down the dose and would that help..?? Hope someone can help me with this one....
Avatar f tn I was perscribed Gabapentin which is generic for Lyrica, I believe. I was perscribed this prior to my diagnosis and my insurance just approved it. Does this medication help w/the pain or what? I have never taken this before and don't know exactly what it is for. The doctor who prescribed it gave it to me months ago but my insurance said they didn't cover it so I just forgot about it and then I got the diagnosis and didn't think much of it after that.
Avatar f tn Hi everybody hubby finished tx in April last year, he achieved SVR thank god but it made his periphal neuropathy a lot worse and he is only getting a few hours sleep a night before the pain wakes him up so he as to get up to try to allieviate the pain. His doc as tried all kinds of tablets but none have worked so far. A few days ago she put him on gabapentin and i just wondered if any of you have had it and if so does it help?
874521 tn?1424116797 There was no more driving and no more going out in public because of embarrassing yelling during attacks. It took getting up to 3600mg/d of gabapentin to eliminate them. At 2400, it just wasn't enough, but made the attacks a little less severe. I have tried to reduce from 3600 from time to time with doc's approval, but attacks return.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar m tn Now this new guy armed with the MRI that should have been done with contrast puts me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) working up to high doses for a month with instructions to come back if it dosen't fix the problem.I haven't been feeling well(besides the back) so my PCP did a viral count, blood work and was alarmed by the results right around 39,000.

Avatar f tn My headaches are maybe not quite as frequent, but I am not so sure that has anything to do with the medicine as I am still getting them. I am also getting random pains still. My tingling is worse than ever...not sure what that means? As far as side effects go, I'm not so sure I'm noticing any. I am super tired, but I think that is a symptom, not a side effect. I've only been on it for a little over a week. I guess i wasn't too helpful, was I??
