Gabapentin for rls

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for rls

neurontin

Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar n tn This has kept the RLS under control but about 7pm has sent me to sleep - most inconvenient for evening meetings! Today my specialist put me on Gabapentin - 100mg twice a day for one week, increasing by 100mg per dose per week up to 600mg in the sixth week. I have therefore stopped the Ropinerole. What I forget to ask is what time of day/night it is best to take the Gabapentin capsules. My RLS is (was) bad in the evenings & through the night.
464044 tn?1343702043 I read online that gabapentin is good for opiate w/d and rls. Has anyone taken this and does it also have w/d's? Im asking because my ex said that it would help, and I wanna use it if it works. On the other hand, Im already on day 3, and I dont want it to set me back. I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone who has used it.
5288248 tn?1370878523 t take the Neurontin for wds, but I did take it for a short time for nerve pain and RLS caused by my back. It did help with that stuff quite a bit. Unfortunately I was having a bad reaction to it and felt all shaky and had a racing heart, so I had to stop taking it. Are you getting ready to jump off of the pain pills my friend?
Avatar m tn I have occasion, daily, where all my limbs, scalp, and main body has a stinging, burning feeling similar to when a Fire Ant bites. Doctor has ruled out RLS but does not know what it is. Prescribed Gabapentin and that seems to do the trick. However, would like to know what it is specifically, so what Doctor Practice should I contact - and possibility of addiction to Gabapentin?
Avatar f tn second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.
Avatar n tn Im seriously trying to get through this, can anyone tell me approx. how long their RLS lasted? And your opinion on starting the Gabapentin at the stage Im at?
Avatar n tn On a search page for this site I read, pertaining to the use of methadone for RLS : " Were you an addict? That causes me to laugh. I lost my job, got disability, totaled seven cars and broke my ankle on the steps before methadone. 15mg a day now, started at 10mg in 2003. Has anyone had really long term success with methadone for RLS?
Avatar m tn And though avisg is also correct that tramadol is not normally prescribed for RLS we are all different. What works for one does not necessarily work for another and visa versa. Who knows why it successfully controlled your RLS symptoms. That is not important. Your concern is justified. What now? Your physician hasn't added an antidepressant to your medication regime has he? As you know they can make the symptoms worse.
Avatar f tn I'm glad you found something that worked. RLS was the worst for me too. Ropinirole is sold in the US as Requip. It was originally prescribed for Parkinson' Disease and then it was discovered that it works for RLS. Keep going forward. It will be over soon.
Avatar f tn With anything though I would only take it as long as you have too. If on it for awhile it does have to be tapered off of. When you do a search for it type in gabapentin, the generic name. It brings up much more information on it. Maybe call a pharmacist and ask them. The should have the better answers about it. Best of luck and let me know how it works for you!
Avatar f tn I HAVE RLS FOR MANY YEARS AND I AM ON 3MG REQUIP AND 1 MG KLONPIN, THAT HAS BEEN HELPING UP TO NOW. I DISCOVERED THAT MY THYROID IS VERY LOW. COULD THAT BE WHY MY RLS IS GETTING WORSE. I REALLY NEED SOME SLEEP!!! WHAT OTHER MEDS ARE HELPFUL. I REALLY HAVE ALOT OF PAIN IN MY LEGS ALSO. THANKS FOR AMY HELP.
Avatar f tn I was doing a google search to see what I can do about these creepy crawly feelings in my limbs. I saw that gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) reduces this feeling. I have this drug at home and if this is true I can stop my Norcos tapering right now. Does anyone out there have success with gabapentin?
Avatar f tn I am taking gabapentin which works for my legs, but not my arms. The leg movements can be voluntary, but the arm movements are not. A few weeks ago, my head turned to the right, both arms stiffened & straightened, then I experienced a painful jolt. All of my muscles were contracted. Next thing I know I am out. When I woke up the next morning, I was off balance and my coordination was off. My right leg and arm were affected. A few weeks later while on medicine both arms tremored.
Avatar f tn I dont have a lot of experience using neurontin for withdrawal symptoms, but I did take it once when I was weening off Subs. The Dr. gave it to me for RLS. It made me feel so dopy and slugglish that I had to stop using it. He told me that I'd get use to it after awhile, but I just couldnt push through til then. I know ppl at my work who use it for leg pain and some just use it to get a speed type buzz.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the info. I guess I've been lucky. I haven't had too many WD symptoms. The biggest one has been the exhaustion. Surprisingly, my back hasn't hurt too much since day 3. Hip and knee joints hurt but it's manageable. I've read your past posts, and the posts of others so I'm making myself get up and walk the property I live on. I was given Gabapentin and Baclofen to help with the WD's, but I'm not too keen on taking them.
Avatar f tn Have had rls once or twice a month for ten years. Then bam, it's full blown, unreal, can't do this, rls. I don't need to tell you all how it feels... But discribeing it to a small town doctor feels like I'm talking to a book. Short story, I moved to Idaho from California. Seeking the small town, farm, slow pace and American dream of life. Digging in deep with enjoying the mild winter and active from dawn to dusk.
Avatar f tn Good for you...anything that helps is great. I currently take gabapentin 4 times per day (300mg) and I use Dilaudid daily. When I run out before I pick up my next script I find that Gabapentin really helps with the restless legs, sleep etc. It is almost like a universal drug. I heard that Gabapentin used to be used for Opiate withdrawl but I can't remenber where I heard that from. WEhat have you headr about Gabapentin and it's uses?
Avatar f tn apple cider vinegar that my parents swear by for their RLS but I still fight the RLS VERY bad most nights. Any ideas of anything else I can try. I work from home so sitting home alone all day is enough time to "think" I really don't need to sit up all night also. Ps i have tried hot soaks, quiet/dark room, no tv, phone, computer etc. Im sleepy as all get out but soon as I lay down it starts. And its not just my legs but also my arms.
Avatar f tn Good morning. I slept all night again. That's just crazy! I swear this gabapentin is magic! I also took an ambien. Slept for 8 hours. I feel like crap when I'm up, but at least I'm sleeping. Only 50 hours in. It makes a ton if difference. Maybe its good karma for fighting going back on these things. Whatever it is I'll take it. Ok day 3 let's get this over with!
Avatar f tn Drugs include carbidopa-levodopa, opioids , tramadol can be helpful for intermittent symptoms, carbamazepine, clonazepam, diazepam, triazolam, and clonidine can be used for persistant symptoms. Also, recently, gabapentin (Neurontin) has been found helpful. I suggest you to consult physician for prescription of appropriate drug in your case. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn The neurotin (gabapentin is the generic) did wonders for me for the first 2 weeks. The rehab here in Texas prescribe the gabapentin for those going thru withdrawals as it helps with anxiety, sleep and even blood pressure. I just did a fast taper the second week and had no problems coming off it. I don't know if I would've made it without it. On the other hand, I understand wanting to be completely free of all pills! You are doing great! Keep on fighting the good fight!
Avatar f tn It worked great at first and still does control the RLS so I can sleep. Soon I was and have been for over a year now, so fatigued that I at times I could barely stay awake. When I was awake I was so fatigued. It got so bad that I finally went on Provigil which does help me with my wakefullness though I still feel physically exhausted I can get through the day being awake at least.
Avatar f tn I am taking 15MG of long acting oxys for my knee but when I have to walk it does not help too much and I have to spend the rest of the day with my knee burning and trying just to get it comfortable which is pretty much useless.
Avatar f tn Thank you for posting this. I used Gabapentin briefly for nerve pain caused by my crippled back. It definitely made me feel 'high'. It also made me very 'shaky' and irritable. I quit taking it after about a week. Anyone who uses this drug to stave off wds needs to be very careful. Congrats on your time off of the vics, and good luck to you on your journey off the Gabapentin.
Avatar n tn It takes work, but find a physician that wants to help you..... i have been taking nuerontin (gabapentin) for several years for nueropathy and never noticed a single benefit from it when going through withdrawals..........
Avatar n tn Hi - my neurologist has recently put me on 2400 mg of Gabapentin per day for severe RLS, along with the .5 mg Mirapex and .5 mg Clonazepam I am already on. I also had a double bypass about 1 1/2 years ago and am on a lot of different heart meds. For the past two days I have been experiencing numbness in my left arm and hand. I called my pharmiscist just now and he says it is a side effect to the Gabapentin but I should get use to it in a few days. I worry because it is my left arm.
Avatar f tn No, it will not help with anxiety. In fact, it can cause anxiety if you take it for a time and come off of it. That is not what it is designed for. You are on day 3 and the anxiety will subside. You need to give it time and stop looking for the magic fix. You will start to feel better in a few days.
Avatar f tn s different for everyone but, yes it usually peaks at day 3-4 then gradually gets better. I take gabapentin too. Also prescribed. It really helped take the edge off. I increased my dosage thru the first week of detox then tapered back to my normal dose. The gabapentin will make you sleepy. Be careful with it too. You can't just stop. You have to taper off if you take it consistently.
