Due to my health insurance being canceled I can't afford to purchase multiple medications I've been on for several years. Gabapentin , fentanyl 75 mcg patch and ocyocodone 15 mg 4 a day. I have been decreasing my amount of each medication as slowly as possible but don't have much left. The side effects of decreasing these medications over a week has had some really bad effects.
It also numbs the nervous system slightly (as its used for nerve pain) which will reduce the anxiety and shakiness usually associated with withdrawals. (I have been prescribed Neurontin (gabapentin) for panic attacks in the past) And believe me- it will DEFINITELY give you a very slowed down sluggish sorta buzzed kinda feeling.
As far as it COMPLETELY stopping withdrawal, that is unusual but not impossible.
t know, but gabapentin is a kind of whole new GABA system and benzos act on the GABA system you already have. The only approved use for the gabapentin is for a couple types of nerve pain, but it is used for anxiety off label. It would be possible that adding that would have allowed you to stop the benzo possibly, though that would still mean going through the whole problem with stopping benzos. Again, I wish I had been kept using benzos as needed.
You could also look into Gabapentin. Gabapentin works well for me for my panic disorder. I wish you well.
Basically, I was being treated for panic attacks, and ended up with constant anxiety, stifling depression, huge anticipatory anxiety, and worse phobia problems. Because my then psychiatrist never told me about withdrawal and never did what he should have done, which was put me back on Paxil and taper even more slowly than the six week taper he used, I just was left to suffer and had to figure out what happened on the internet.

I am new to your forums and found it today while searching for help. My panic attacks have reached their peak over the past couple of weeks. I am now taking Zoloft 50mgs per day and have been for about 10 days. The dr says it will take a while to get into my system to begin working. Work has seemed to be my trigger as many things have changed over the past couple months and the stress level is at an all time high there.
I know from experience the anxious state can last for months and panic attacks can happen daily. I went through a horrible period of anxiety and panic. I have since been treated with meds and therapy and I am much better! Hopefully, you feel better soon!
I have been experiencing panic attacks on and off for the past three years. of course they always seem worse when moneys tight or issues come up in my life. when things are good, the panic attacks go away, petty much completely. I have the up and down swings like I could be bi polar, but alot of the other symptoms don't exist.
Then one month ago i got a bad sinus infection and went to a walkin clinic and the doc put me on a zpac, effexor for my panic attack. I was out of work for a whole week. I went back to the same clinic but another doc put me on xanax. They helped but as soon as the med wore off the panic was back. They told me then to try zoloft and xanax er. Which has not helped and i couldnt sleep.
