Gabapentin and xanax

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and xanax

neurontin

Avatar f tn I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply lulu, I know what you mean about the nerve drugs I also take xanax again i wound up in the hospital last octaber because I tried to stop xanax on my own and the cardiologist put me back on the xanax said I was on that needed them for cardiac issues due to anxiety I only tak three quartes milligram at night to help with sleep and I am supposed to take two milligrams a day but I won't take them, Only at night to sleep.
6937315 tn?1386287618 I've been prescribed it by my psychiatrist for anxiety, but have so far been afraid to take it, but my situation stems from a bad reaction to stopping a medication years ago so I'm kind of at the desperation stage. She says it does help some people. So I can't give you my own experience but can tell you it is used off-label for anxiety. It's basically GABA, which is something the brain uses to produce calm and pain relief, and is what benzos target.
299889 tn?1257339377 Hi, I have heard of gabapentin and want to ask my pdoc about it. It seems like we are on a vicious circle with lamictal and serquel as well as celexa ( 60 mg.) He wants to titrate me off of celexa but not sure. He also wants to refer me to another specialist, for an eval. I am afraid as this is a well known pdoc who specializes in ect. Neither myself nor my husband want me to take that route. Plus, I hear people talking about drugs my pdoc has never tried, like other mood stabilizers.
2033870 tn?1329481339 I have rapid cycling bipolar as well as post traumatic stress disorder. He has me on Xanax for anxiety, Zoloft and Neurontin for mood stabilizer. Can anyone tell me what they think of Neurontin and if it words? I am very intrigued to know if I am on a good medicine or if this isn't good. I don't go back to him for 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn For fibromyalgia I also take xanax and hydrocodone. Things were at least okay, with pain levels and fibro manifestations to deal with, but nothing like this hell. At first, I reached for anti-dizziness meds, but they aren't really much help, plus they swell my prostate for which I have had two operations for enlargement already.
Avatar f tn thank you i did do some today i was using boi and girl and xanax so this is the worst that i am going threw but i took some nurriton today and im sleepy finally just totally emptied my stomach this is the hardest thing so i am pratying it warks cause my dr, gave me librium but it didnt do anything it seemed to make it worse and was gonna try the poppy seed tea still might got the stuff for it today but dunno if it is worth it????
1772374 tn?1326246237 m currently taking Gabapentin, Xanax when needed, Busiprone, and Lexapro. Lexapro is an SSRI for depressant and is known for helping anxiety. Gabapentin is a tranquilizer/mood-stabalizer. Busiprone is an anti-anxiety drug as well but non-benzo. It works on Serotonin, and a little bit on Dopamine. Right now after taking the gabapentin and 2mg xanax im feeling a lil at ease. Plus what helps me a tad is to take a walk and observe nature in a sort of meditative way. Meditation is good too.
Avatar f tn Mammo is Xanax is not long lasting klonopin is and I have take klonopin and now I take Gabapentin which helps to prevent the attacks. But talk to your doctor first and see which will be better for you.
Avatar m tn Gabapentin 300 mg now and I almost sleep like a baby .
Avatar n tn ve been taking about 10-12 lortabs per day and maybe 4 (2mg) xanax bars for maybe the past 2 months. if i quit cold turkey and just take the gabapentin (neurontin) will that be enough to help with withdrawals? or should i taper myself down on the vicodin and xanax a little bit, and then do the gaba therapy (i don't want to go in and have ANY doctor do anything)... help...?
Avatar f tn In doing this it takes your mind off worries and thoughts and allows you to relax and become one with your senses. What you do is close your eyes and breathe deeply through your nose exhaling out your mouth and once your relaxed with the breathing you may just breathe however you feel most comfortable. The breathing oxygenates the brain.
Avatar f tn Once I realized that I was taking too much Xanax, so with my doctors help I began to reduce it. I would write down every time I took it and how much. I did not realize how strong Xanax was. For me gabapentin made me very photo sensitive, I have heard of others who gain weight. I was on a very low dose for a short time. I am sure others will be a long to talk soon. Hang in there.
Avatar n tn my husband took 30 xanax and 1200mg of gabapentin not too long ago. He also take other pshyc meds. I wanted him to go to the hospital but he wouldnt go and threatened to leave and go walk somewhere. It is 100 degrees outside so I begged him to stay here. He is sleeping right now and I am so afraid he is going to have a heart attack or go into coma or who knows. Has anyone experienced anyone doing this?
689267 tn?1235241749 I was able to begin resuming life normally after this and stopped taking the Gabapentin and Clonidine. I found myself smiling for the first time in ages and full of energy and feeling better than I had felt in a long long time. It’s been several years now and I’ve had to resume taking 2mgs of Xanax several nights a week but I won’t take it anymore than 3-4 times a week and no higher than 2mgs because I don’t ever want to get addicted again.
Avatar f tn I was put on Lyrica and had every side effect listed and then some, was then put on gabapentin and while less side effects, they were still severe enough that I couldn't continue. My doctor then switched me to Cymbalta. Cymbalta can be prescribed for nerve pain or anxiety. That has helped immensely. NOTE: when the pharmacy switched to the generic, I had similar psychological side effects similar to those from Lyrica and Gabapentin (confusion, stupidity, suicidal thoughts,...
393986 tn?1303825975 The mechanism by which Gabapentin exerts its anticonvulsant action is unknown, but in animal test systems designed to detect anticonvulsant activity, Gabapentin prevents seizures as do other marketed anticonvulsants. Gabapentin exhibits antiseizure activity in mice and rats in both the maximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazole seizure models and other preclinical models (e.g., strains with genetic epilepsy, etc.). The relevance of these models to human epilepsy is not known.
Avatar n tn I was done and without contacting my doctor or thinking about further repercussions I stopped the Xanax, Vicodin and Adderall, I could have lived through the Vicodin and Adderall withdrawals without problems if Xanax were not in the eqasion but Xanax made and is making it living hell. After 3 days w/o Xanax I was tremoring and dillusional, couldn't think clearly and on full day 3 had a seizure which was witnessed by my husband and daughter.
Avatar m tn I've also heard that lyrica is similar to gabapentin. But I heard that lyrica is gabapentins big bad brother meaning that it is much stronger. I have also heard that lyrica has the potential for abuse. But I have also read of people abusing gabapentin. I'm prescribed gabapentin and I have no idea why anyone would want to abuse it as all it seems to do is make me sleepy and foggy headed. Then again, people would probably try to abuse motor oil if they thought it might alter their brain!
Avatar m tn Hey folks, I think the regulars here know my story. I had a very odd reaction to stopping Paxil over three and a half years ago, and I've never gotten over what happened. Basically, I was being treated for panic attacks, and ended up with constant anxiety, stifling depression, huge anticipatory anxiety, and worse phobia problems.
393986 tn?1303825975 When this round started, I took a flexeril, xanax and a gabapentin, and its not helping! I have been trying to taper off the gabapentin and I am really worried that this is going to make the neuropathic pain more unbearable. I just cannot afford it right now. My last Dr said to taper over three weeks and to start Elavil, well I am hesitant to even start it because I have taken it before with the gabapentin and it didn't help at all. I ended up increasing the gabapentin.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Imitrex for the migraines which do help for now and baclofen (muscle relaxer) to help me sleep and I take Xanax when needed for my anxiety/panic attacks but it can also sometimes help for the pain I have noticed now. However I am in horrific pain right now in my neck that radiates down my right shoulder and my right arm & hand go numb/tingling. It's even hard to type or write for me lately. And some pain in my lower back...
Avatar f tn Hi there, I've also been taking Xanax for many years and I have only just recently learned through this forum that this medication should be used only occasionally, otherwise a tolerance is built up and as you have found out they stop working. A better benzodiazepine to use is Klonopin or Valium which have a much longer half life which prevents tolerance from becoming an issue. If you have tried every med then maybe your aware of these?
Avatar n tn t doing anything for me and so I began to taper off gabapentin and experienced a god awful withdrawal, my Doctor had no advise as to how to properly taper and so I did on line research and found your post and a couple of other posts suggesting that I might have a magnesium defieciency and decided to check out some of the magnesium supplements available one of them was (ionic-fizz Magnesium plus) I was stuck at 1200 mg. gabapentin and couldn't seem to taper down any farther.
Avatar f tn I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.
Avatar f tn ve gotten mri mra mrv ct and cta. Neurologist only said pressure in my head and gave me xanax and topimax recently stopped using because of the effect on parenting it just don't work xanax is a drug that prevents you of anything even for self. So after stopping that he gave imitrex I almost died, couldn't move breathe speak anything. I'm so scared, I've noticed when being surprised or any excitement I get so weak to the point I could barely stand.
Avatar m tn Oh yea I have anxiety to its a very tuff thing to deal with it gets easier as young go on but you have to fight hard to pull yourself threw it I to have a lot of the same symptoms as you and was told it was anxiety but my test went that positive of an out come. But I thank god the days I'm here. Good luck and xanax is what I use but use in moderation because that is highly addictive and had severe withdraw from it.
