neurontin

Avatar m tn There are several meds in that category that work really well and depending on your ins will make a big diff on which one you want to try first. Gabapentin is one of the older ones now, also Topamax and Lyrica. Lyrica is still one of the newer ones but works really well. I take Topamax and Lyrica. I take Topamax for headaches and Lyrica for neuropathic pain. My pain is well controlled but they do have their side effects.
Avatar f tn How long has it taken you to improve regarding the mental part? Been on treatment for 3 weeks so far and I still feel very hazy and foggy headed. I'm worried it will be permanent!
5887915 tn?1383378780 Hi, Just wanted to say great advice above! I am on the other side of this, in that when we eval patients for OT, there may be some testing that involves cognition and memory. Of course every patient is different, so evaluations differ, too. There is a "standard protocol", but of course there are also adjustments built in so to speak, as everyone is different. I always think of what my husband told me back when I had taken my state board licensing test...
Avatar f tn Ever since the incident, I had troubles feeling emotions, then thinking and then expressing myself and being able to study or perform in tests at the university as before. I still have this problem and I can't concentrate enough to read anything, no matter how much I try and would like to. This applies to any kind of text. I just scan it through. With the new semester beginning, I'm already facing problems and it's my final year - research project and lotsa writing.
Avatar f tn I began taking Gabapentin for the electricity and muscle spasms in my legs. My initial dose was 100 mg at bedtime. Now, I am up to 100 mg 3 times daily. It has helped greatly, but recently I have been having some break-through spasms. I do not recall having had any "vibrations" from the medication itself.
Avatar m tn I dont have good memory and cognition when I am taking both antidepressant and antipsychotic. SO I chose only antidepressant. Can you explain all of this?
Avatar f tn I have taken gabapentin and xanax for 10+ years without problems. Xanax is a shorter acting benzodiazapine then librium. You may find you need less librium with gabapentin.

518001 tn?1212419235 I currently am taking a multivitamin, B complex, Co-Q10 and L-Carnitine. Nothing is making a difference. The exhaustion and cognition continue to worsen. Can anyone suggest anything else I might try? I am housebound and can barely do anything. I can't use caffeine, because it worsens my hot flashes (I'm perimenopausal too). Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn I had a migraine new to me about a month ago went to a neurologist he prescribed meythpredislone 21 pack and after that was completed he prescribed neurotin gabapentin which I am very afraid of taken but I started taken 1 before I go to bed. Why did the neurologist prescribed that if it was just for headaches?
Avatar f tn I have also a hard time remembering everyday things. The other night before I fell asleep I had trouble remembering names and where I was, it only lasted a few moments. I am only 21 years old and I do not consume alcohol or caffeine. I am wondering if I should be very concerned.
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar n tn s disease causes neuropsychiatric disturbances, which include mainly cognition, mood and behavior problems and can be as disabling as motor symptoms. I don't see any connection with PD and hypertension. Its a neurological disorder. Hypertension and high cholesterol is a cardiovascular disorder and are correlated. Thanks for your question...I don't know if I completely understand your concerns, but if you have further question you are welcome to post. Take care.
Avatar m tn sciatic nerve damage. The Gabapentin works great, aside from the fact that I get brain fog and drowsiness. This drug separates me from pain, however, makes me a zombie! Does anyone know of a drug or supplement that I can take with the Gabapentin to combat the somnolence?
Avatar m tn I am 55 years old and was originally diagnosed 33 years ago.. since menopause around the age of 43 the frequency of my outbreaks have increased exponentially.. and spread to other parts of my body. Last year they increased to basically being back to back, as soon as one instance cleared up another started and in January I started getting headaches that just 'felt' like Herpes.... attacking my brain.
382218 tn?1341181487 The survey was simple and quick, perhaps a dozen multiple-choice questions, and I provided my first name and my e-mail address at the end so they would send me the results. One question threw me a little: "How long have you been living with MS?" I've been diagnosed nine years, and I answered to reflect that, but I had symptoms before that, so perhaps I should have answered with that in mind.
Avatar m tn It became progressively more debilitating u til he suffered a fall, fracture and, well you know the rest. I am worried my cognition and memory might have an organic cause besides my psych issues. My brain MRI report says "mild bright FLAIR signal in the peri ventricular and subcortical is present. Not a pattern classic for demyelination but this is non specific. Most likely representing mild microangiopathy changes." Should I get a second opinion or reading?
Avatar m tn I have Congenital nystagmus and tried gabapentin but it seemed to be making the Nystagmus worse. I started taking bupropion at the same itme, and suspect the bupropion may have interfered with the initial trial of gabapentin. I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have tried Gabapentin, and I am currently taking Lyrica, which is a relative of Gabapentin. It does help a little, but not enough to enable me to sit down longer.
Avatar m tn t faint. The baseline feels like I am lightheaded. Cognition is intact and vision is normal except during the presyncope attacks. Those can last minutes or sometimes hours. This has been going on for about a year. MRI, blood work and neurologist consultation all were normal. I also experience a fullness feeling in my forehead, like an icecream headache. Sometimes yawning or laughter can trigger the forehead pain.
Avatar f tn Hey nailbox.(That's quite original) Welcome to the forum! Can't say that your case is unique, as two thirds (2/3rds) of patients on gabapentin will experience adverse effects. There may be some changes in your symptoms, better or worse, more or less, if you wish to stick with it. You may also want to look into Picamilon , made by combining a GABA derivative and Niacin which is sold as an OTC dietary supplement in the U.S.A. Not sure where you live.
Avatar n tn I can physically feel the whole process of memory recall as something entirely different than what it has been my whole life. Caffeine is supposed to improve psycho-motor skills and cognition but has been doing the opposite for me. If I drink too much it becomes difficult to walk, to think normally, and to recall memories, but my energy levels are where they need to be as well as my focus, so it's a trade-off. Every doctor I've been to has been garbage.
Avatar f tn I have had conversations about Gabapentin (and my intolerance to it) and I have learned through my own trial and error that it does take time for your body to adjust. I also know (through googling many different medications) that each time you adjust the dosage, that your body can have side effects. The side effects should get better as your body adjusts, but if they don't, you should definitely talk to your doctor about it.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am on 3000 mg. of Gabapentin now too, and I'm finding it does not seem to help the pain and spasms in my legs. I am also on Baclofen, and tried Zanaflex but coudl not tolerate the Zanaflex., even at a small dose. The Baclofen seems to help with spacisity, but not the pain, so we still have the stiffness and pain, and that ICE COLD feeling that we get in the calf muslcles of my legs. Why are you going off the Gabapentin?
Avatar f tn as far as I know, there is no generic version of Lyrica at this time... and Lyrica and Gabapentin are two completely different medications... if your doctor or pharmacist told you otherwise, they are incorrect. Gabapentin is generic for Neurontin, originally developed as an anti-epileptic, whereas Lyrica was developed specifically for treatment of neuropathic pain. They both work on the body's GABA receptors, but the mechanism of action is slightly different with each.
Avatar f tn The other day, I went to a Christmas party and left the gabapentin at home, so I missed a dose. I got a horrible stomach ache that night and was miserable. The next day, I took the medicine, and the stomach aches are gone. i also have gotten weird vision problems when I accidentally miss a dose. The little packet that came with my medicine said there can be vision changes and GI problems if you stop taking the medicine completely without medical advice.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
