Avatar m tn Mycocide (for under the nails of the big toes...infection site is small at this point...far less then 1/3 of the size of a dime...very front of toe nails, right & left, where they come in contact with the flesh of the toes)? I could kick myself for not realizing the significance of this problem sooner, yet I also have never had to deal with a fungal infection either (ergo my naivity). Well, needless to say I wish I did not have this at all or, at least, realized what it was sooner.
Avatar f tn Hello, Loss of nails in the hands or feet is called onychoptosis.Fungal infection is the leading cause of loss of toe nails. The fungi that cause onychoptosis thrive in dark, moist environments, so wearing tight shoes, socks, and stockings, can increase the risk of developing the condition. The fungi are also easily transferred from foot to foot and from person to person.Did you get a fungal KOH culture done.It has to be done to rule out the possibility of fungal infection.
Avatar m tn Hi This black crusty material may be a fungal infection. Fungal infections may commonly affect the toe nails or finger nails in general. If this black material may be scraped off ,then you may need to have this assessed through KOH evaluation and culture. This will help exclude a fungal infection so that management may be directed towards the most possible working diagnosis. At this point, I would consider a fungal infection first as this is fairly common.
Avatar m tn This may be a case of onychomycosis or as you have mentioned a fungal infection of the nail itself. Have you had this assessed by a dermatologist? Topical medications may not be enough to treat fungal infections of the nails. You may need oral medications for these. Discuss this with your dermatologist. "Surgical nail removal may be used to treat severe or recurring fungal nail infections.
Avatar f tn ve been getting my nails done with acrylics and gels for numerous years but now have what appears to be an infection in many of my nails and they are separaed from the nail bed. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Should I have the nails cut down? See a dermatologist? Kindly advise.
Avatar m tn This can manifest in the form of an altered color of nails, dystrophic nails, blackened broken nails or powdery white nails. This is frequently accompanied by a fungal infection of toe web spaces and soles. Treatment consists of oral and topical antifungal drugs like terbinafine. Fungal infections are definitely a possibility in your case, considering they were not treated properly earlier on. Splinter hemorrhages can be a possibility with linear pigmented lines over nails.
Avatar n tn Hi Differentials here may include dishydrosis and a fungal infection. Fungal infection involving the finger nails is referred to as onychomycosis and they may cause some changes on the finger nails. If discharge is present in the area, then you may have the discharge cultured. The results of the culture will help determine the causative organism. This will help guide treatment later on. Applying topical antifungal cream with corticosteroid preparation will be able to help.

Avatar n tn fungal infection though, relates to your nails..and just your toe nails also.... as there is no fungal infection regarding fingernails....so,... isolating the problem with whatever toes are causing problems..and that then stops the infection spreading...
Avatar m tn Hello, Two possibilities need to be ruled out from these symptoms. The first possibility is of fungal nail infection and the second is of psoriasis nails. In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or cloudy appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription.
Avatar n tn This sounds like a fungal infection. You have mentioned the occurrence of ridges on the nails. Ridges on the nails may suggest underlying disorders like a fungal infection, anemia and dehydration. In fungal infections however, the nails may become whitish ,yellowish and soft. They will eventually separate from the nail bed. Continue to observe the condition. Have you sought consult with the pediatrician? I suggest that you seek consult with his pediatrician for evaluation also.
Avatar n tn One month after got sick (many symptoms), fungus toe nail infection. 8 month after unprotected sex all 20 nails became discolored, dull. Fingernails started turning white from the cuticle up. Is it sign of HIV infection? Please help.
Avatar m tn First of all, you need to get the diagnosis confirmed from your doctor and get a KOH examination of the nail scrapings done to find out whether it is fungal infection. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn also occur in persons without HIV but occur more commonly in persons with advanced HIV. This is virtually certainly the case for your fungal infection of your finger nails. HIV tests such as the one you took play a critical role in determining whether persons with problems such as yours are related to an immunosuppressive problem such as HIV or just bad luck. In your case, your negative HIV test proves that HIV is not your problem. Believe the test result.

Avatar f tn I recently adopted a three and a half month old kitten. I've just noticed that a couple of his claws are a pale greenish color. I have green furniture and thought he had been clawing at it but it appears to be part of the nail. Only one nail is completely discolored but several have some element of discoloration. I clip his nails and he uses his clawing toys that I got him but I am worried about his nails because they just don't look healthy.

Avatar n tn I had a fungal infection on 4 of my toenails. I treated them with oral Lamisil starting about 9 months ago. Two nails have been growing, one has grown completely out, the other two haven't seem to grown at all. Do I have any other options? Is it possible they are permanently damaged?
Avatar f tn Toenails are affected more often than fingernails. The risk of getting a fungal infection is increased by closed-in footwear, prolonged moist skin, and minor skin or nail injuries. Diagnosed by fungal KOH cultures of the nails and skin scrapings around the nails. Treatment includes topical anti fungal creams or gel. The treatment has to be continued for months sometimes. I hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.

Avatar m tn 1) Fungal infection of the nails. It is also called onychomycosis and the commonest presenting feature is thickening and discoloration of the nailbed which may be white, black, yellow or green.
