Avatar m tn m asking her to go on a low sodium diet. My impression is, her sodium intake is high. She likes spicy dishes.
Avatar f tn In the kidney, salt and calcium are co-transported, meaning they are pumped out into the urine together, therefore, when you have a diet high in sodium and your kidney is pumping that sodium (salt) out, calcium is pushed out as well as an innocent bystander. The first piece of advice I would give you is to cut down the salt in your diet. remember that it can be hidden in prepared foods, so you have to ask and pay attention to sodium content. Your goal is 2000mg of sodium per day or less.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have had high blood pressure for years. Like really high -- 190+over 90 very often. So I'm working on taking medication but I have a question about amlodipine. I start with Lisinopril 40mg, but my doctor added amlodipine. It helps but my ankles and legs swell up really bad. Thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. thanks.
Avatar n tn can I drink the juice of 1 grapefruit a day, if I am taking metoprolol and fosinopril for blood pressure? My blood pressure is completely controled.
Avatar n tn He has terrible abdominal swelling, fluid retention, and feeling such fullness after any exercise. We cannot explain this. He is on a very healthy diet, low sodium, low carb, and not super high protein, just well balanced. This is causing him to be extremely uncomfortable. Any ideas on how to prevent this, what could be causing this, or what to do to treat it? He takes hydrochlorothiazide twice daily, 12.5mg and it does help, but not completely. He drinks lots of water.
Avatar m tn My questions concerns the borderline to the minimal and normal cm of the aorta? Based on a recent ECHO the results returned ventrical with a ejection fraction of 60%. There was mild distention of the aorta 3.5cm and no evidence of aneurysym. Recents Holter (24) showed again no aneurysyms with intermittent tachycardia. Brought on by 800mg of Ibuprfin 4/21/11. ever since my blood pressure has been in the 150/80 numbers. Prior to that it was always 120/60 or 118/80.
15695260 tn?1549593113 Recently, new research suggests that it is true! Certain medications that have been prescribed to lower blood pressure can slow dementia in seniors. ACE inhibitors showed a somewhat slower decline in memory and other mental skills than patients not on the drugs for some patients.
Avatar n tn My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar f tn I'm presently on atenolol 40 mg (along with hydrochlorothiazide) once daily. I will be transitioning to propanolol 20 mg (and hydrochlorothiazide) twice daily soon - my doctor wants me to transition by taking propanolol - 1/2 of 20 mg twice a day for one week and then the full 20 mg twice daily. Why? Won't that cause rebound hypertension? Thanks.

Avatar n tn I have just diag. with MSK with multi. stones. (found it after further testing due to high blood pressure) Dr. just put me on Lisinopril and Hydrochlort. for the hypertension. On several occasions I have been noticing some numbness in my toes. Some times it's just one toe and some times it's 3 or 4 toes. Any idea's? Could this be due to the medicine?
Avatar f tn I am so confused because I have too many issues that can cause the same symptoms. Recently, my doctor switched me from Valsartan HCTZ to Hydrochlorothiazide plus regular Valsartan for my blood pressure. When I first started it, right away I was having rapid heart beat and shortness of breath so he told me take potassium supplements. That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium.
Avatar m tn Hello, I was having the numbness and tingling while taking hydrochlorothiazide. I would stop taking it and the numbness/tingle would go away, take it again, and it would come right back. Not sure if he is taking hydrochlorothiazide. They had me on it for edema. I have swelling in my hands and ankles, all tests neg except for CMV. Battling this since April 2008. Hands so swollen, can't open bottles, hold a pen, hold a phone or peel the label off the top of yogurts..ect..
1987593 tn?1326675862 Definitely see your doctor. It sounds to me like something I go through, but usually mine is just during the summer. I get water retention something awful in both of my feet and legs. It even affects my hands and arms. My doctor put me on hydrochlorothiazide to take during the times of my period. I'm thinking about asking either for something else or see if we should up my dose since I only take it for 10 days each month. Definitely see your doc.

Avatar f tn I guess I was wondering if his thyroid issues have anything to do with this and should we go ahead and have him see an endocrinologist since his sugar and calcium are high and he is hypothyroid which is currently under control. Sorry for the long post and thank you for your time!
