Fosamax esophagus cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax esophagus cancer

fosamax

Avatar n tn I took Fosamax for only 7 weeks but am having prolonged diarrhea and esophagus problems. Gas build up is hard to release. Burps are few and far between causing a build up of pressure in the esophagus. I, too, am looking for help and guidance. My doctor has sent me to a GI specialist, but the first appointment I could get is in July.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar m tn jsp EVISTA does not treat breast cancer, prevent it from returning, or reduce the risk of all forms of breast cancer. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/therapy/tamoxifen Tamoxifen has been used for almost 10 years to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer. Tamoxifen is also used to treat women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a noninvasive condition that sometimes leads to invasive breast cancer.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn Doubt esophogeal cancer but also not clear how it would be related to the change in synthroid dose. Would consider having an ENT look into the throat and at the vocal cords, if that is negative and the symptoms persist, have a GI doc look in the esophagus and stomach area.
Avatar f tn Hello Emanuelle, I definitely feel for your concern. Although I am 36 I have pretty severe osteoporosis and at one time was recommended to take medication for it. I have several spinal injuries which have resulted in Degenerative Disk Disease, other joint syndromes and overall bone density loss. I had not personally heard of the the fractures (femur) from the Fosamax, but I did hear of the other risk factors for some of the older drugs.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn I will have surgury soon to remove my esophagus due to recent detection of cancer cells. What are the effects or inconviences patients experience after the healing process and the and they have returned to normal activity. This discussion is related to removal of the esophagus.
Avatar f tn I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar f tn Hi there. I don't know if I should tell you what it could be, because I'm not a doctor, and don't want to scare you and because I think you probably know if you have been seeing your doctor. Unless she didn't tell you what bulimia could do to you? I also have bulimia but hate hate HATE the fact that I have it and really regret bring such a horrible disease into my life, because it has caused SO many problems for myself and my family. I'll tell you a few of them.
Avatar n tn Yes, there are grades, but I can't tell you what they are. I think there is another poster on this site that has that information. In my case, the word 'moderate' was used to described the cell change, and think it involved the length of the cell change in the esophagus. Obviously, the goal is stop the cell changes from getting worse.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi Merla, The risk of developing cancer due to Barrett's esophagus is 40 times more than the general population. The risk is further increased because of the associated smoking. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. 667562 tn?1228262025 Thyroid cancer rarely spreads to the esophagus. I am not sure what is meant by nodules in the esophagus - the GI specialist will likely need to put a camera into the esophagus/stomach to see what is going on (aka endoscopy). Sometimes nodules in the thyroid can push on the esophagus and cause swallowing problems -- perhaps this is what is happening. Depending on the size/appearance of the nodules, FNA biopsy may be necessary -- about 5-10% of thyroid nodules are cancer.
Avatar f tn I'm sure you are very concerned, hopefully I can ease your anxiety a bit. I'm not a health professional but a Barrett's Esophagus (BE) patient as well. Basically, the cells in your lower Esophagus are different than the cells in the upper intestine. However, when the lower esophagus is exposed to excess acid, the cell structure can change to mimic the cells in the upper intestine. When this occurs, a diagnosis of BE is made.
667562 tn?1228262025 I have not read any info about thyroid cancer spread to the esophagus. The MRI imaging may be helpful to see the nodules in the different projections.
Avatar n tn I have not heard of any link between nexium and cancer of the esophagus. There is a link between acid reflux and Barrett's esophagus that can ultimately turn into cancer if the condition is not controlled. That's typically why nexium is given - to knock down the reflux and control damage to the esophagus.
Avatar f tn So I had experience swallowing problems for a few months and my doctor asked me to do a barium swallow and chest xray..chest xray was clear and stomach was clear too but for my esophagus the results said GERD and mucosal thickening..
