Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax and periodontal disease

fosamax

Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
Avatar m tn The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem. The last thing the orthodontist said to us was we should have a strong foundation to start the straightening process. We are now so confused we do not know which way to proceed. Should the periodontal work be completed prior to the braces or what???????
Avatar n tn Assuming loose teeth refering to increased tooth mobility, which is associated with periodontal disease, occlusal trauma, or bone pathology. Fosamax is not likely to cause tooth mobility.
Avatar n tn My father is suffering from some periodontal disease and has swollen and loose gums and he is using dental implants to get rid of it. He has a snoring problem and now showing some symptoms of sleep apnea as well. Are they related to periodontal diseases? We are planning to get an anti snoring device ( http://www.parkerhilldental.com/our-services/anti-snoring-appliances/ ) to control the snoring issue. Is it really effective? Would that enough to solve this issue?
Avatar n tn I was recently diagonosed with periodontal disease in the back half of my lower jaw. I have an upcoming appointment with a periodontist scheduled. I recently became ill and went to the doctor. I was diagnosed with strep throat via a throat culture. Could the bacterial from the periontal disease contribute to the strep throat, or are these likely two separate issues?
Avatar m tn just to add some more information I am being treated right now for the periodontal disease and the time of the incident I did not have any visible bleeding of the gums but I do have deep pockets (gaps in the gums) and deep gum recession for one of my tooth in the lower jaw. What are my risk of HIV after this incident?
Avatar n tn Many women with RA, especially those who have taken prednisone, could be prone to osteopenia or osteoporosis. Also, our inability to do lots of weight-bearing exercise can contribute. I was lucky that I had a female rheumie many years ago who thought to order a bone density test that caught it early. Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain.
Avatar n tn The common cause of halitosis is periodontal disease and cavity. Periodontal disease can be cured. However, meticulous mainteinace program is extremely important to prevent recurrence of periodontal disease.
Avatar m tn My friend has three teeth with abscesses(as in, infections) - all front bottom right next to each other. He also has periodontal disease and needs a deep cleaning. Through our insurance, it only costs 200 for a deep cleaning. But the problem is that it still costs about 400 per unit of a bridge. My question is - would he have to get the three teeth extracted before getting the deep cleaning? I know the obvious answer is "yes" but is it *absolutely* necessary?
Avatar m tn Thanks I did ask him about his dental situtation before TX and he did mention Gum disease. I don't know about the cavities. I wonder if the interferon might have excelerated the gum disease?
Avatar m tn There is a statistical link between periodontal disease (gum infections) and clogged-up coronary arteries. It adds up to about a twofold risk for heart disease. You can google something like" coronary artery disease and periodontal disease" to read the recent studies, if you're interested. No one knows yet exactly what is going on, or whether it's really cause and effect.
Avatar m tn Hello three weeks ago i preformed oral sex on a guy, he did not ejaculate in my mouth but there was pre cum. Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar n tn Their is no question that there is a direct link between smoking and periodontal (gum) disease and smoking. Numerous studies have indicated such. Also oral cancer has been directly to smoking and other tobacco products in the mouth.I would suggest that you see your dentist or an oral surgeon.
Avatar m tn It sounds like it could be gingivitis or something beyond gingivitis known as periodontal disease. Your dentist will do a thorough examination and determine what needs to be done to take care of your situation. If it is periodontal disease, a scalings of the root surfaces of your teeth below the gums will help resolve the issue. It isn't painful but you may need to be numbed for the treatment. Afterwards, you may be a little sore for a day.
Avatar n tn What is the best way to treat periodtal disease? And at what point should one think of having thier teeth removed because this disease.
Avatar n tn Other hip and spine are in the yellow zone for osteopenia. I am allergic to Bonita and Fosamax so for now trying exercise, calcium, vitamin D to combat it. My mom has it and I've been menopausal for 10 years now at the age of 43. I don't take magnesium. Should I be and what would be a good starting dose?
Avatar n tn The dentist obviously saw evidence of periodontal disease, which is apparently why your tooth fell out. And yes, if you don't want the rest of your teeth to fall out, now is the time to start major periodontal treatment to save the rest of your teeth. If he went straight to the procedure to cut open your gums instead of just suggesting root planing, then your teeth/gums/bones are already on borrowed time. Here's how it will go if you don't do this.
Avatar m tn If left untreated it can lead to periodontal disease (loss of bone and surrounding tissue). Chronic gingivitis does not always hurt the more acute form is normally what causes gum pain. As for bleeding do your gums bleed when you floss? And do you floss?
Avatar n tn I have been told that I have gum disease and have been refered by my dentist. I also have suffered with chrones disease for the last 23years and was wondering if this could be a factor to gum disease. My teeth are in good condition and I only have 3 fillings. I am 39 years of age. Please could you advise.
Avatar m tn Treatment of any condition depends on the underlying cause. For periodontal disease scaling, polishing, and sometimes curettage are useful. It is usually done in a series of three to four visits at an interval of almost one week. You can take care of your teeth and gums by brushing in morning and evening, and do not brush immediately after eating as acid in food can soften the teeth.
