I'm a runner and recently got a pain on top of foot, as if my laces were too tight 9they may have been!) recently been doing a lot of off road running on uneven hard surface. it seems to be in the Extensor Hallucis Brevis area and there is a squashy lump the size of a smallish coin in that area, which isn't really painful to touch. If I loosen my laces in that area I can walk and do a bit of running without too much discomfort.
The pain can either be a dull ache along the side of my foot (not on the bottom) or a shooting pain that goes across the top of my foot (near my leg). I do seem to have some swelling there as well. I am overweight. I work 12 hour shifts at a hopsital...and it is definately worse when the shifts are busy and I am on my feet more. I used to do the walk fit DVDs, but can't anymore because of the discomfort after only 5 minutes.
Hi, I'm 15 years old and I've been having foot pain on the middle top part of my foot for about 2 years now. The foot pain is only present with strenuous exercise, especially after a long period of rest. When there is pain, some burning feeling is also present. I think that this pain started when I either dropped some textbooks on my foot or when I jumped down on it too hard. There is no swelling or redness.
Hi, I have a pain in my right foot. It is on the top of my foot and only last a few seconds then goes away. Seems to happen most when I am relaxed or laying down. I can't recall any injuries, there is no bruising and does not hurt to touch or press. It is quite painful while it's happening and has been going on for the last 3 days. Does anyone know what this might be or how I can stop it from happening?
I have read multiple posts about this and have also read about the Mortons condition, but I think mine is different. On occasion such as last night, I was awoke by a stabbing pain on the top of my right foot. I refer to these as "labor pains" because you can feel the jolt coming on and it lasts for a couple of seconds then subsides. It is like a burning electrical shock. It will continue to do it at anywhere from 30 to 45 second intervals. My toes are unaffected.
Now my right foot is swollen still two days later. The pain is on the top of my right foot on the inner side. No bruise but very discomforting. Sometimes, I can not put any weight on it and the pain is unbearable. A red color bout the size of a half dollar piece is visible and the skin is very warm to the touch. Any suggestions of what this may be?
the other day I hit the top of my foot ( middle of my foot on top ) with the corner of the draw at my desk. The desk draws are metal. When i hit it, it got swollen and was really really red. Had a bruise.

I would suggest you to go for an X-ray and check if there is any problem with the talus bone which is present on top of the arch of your foot. As there is very little soft tissue to protect the top of the foot, bone injuries are common. The second, third and fourth Metatarsals are the most commonly injured bones due to something falling on your foot. Without any fracture you would need physiotherapy and anti inflammatory medications to decrease the pain and inflammation.
Hi---I am a registered nurse and have recently been experiencing very sharp pain in my left foot....the top left side. I went to an orthopedist that specializes in feet and an mri was done and it showed nothing abnormal. This is the most painful condition that I have ever had. I am on my feet for twelve hour shifts and sometimes the pain keeps me awake at night. The next morning I wake up and my foot feels swollen and I have trouble walking.
When playing volleyball, an opponent landed squarely on top of my foot. I have mild pain and a popping feeling between big toe and next toe, about 2" from the bottom of the toes. I can walk, but it forces me to limp. No discoloration, no swelling (or so little I can't tell).
This was 2 days ago. I played with no pain right afterwards. Went home, no pain. Woke up the next morning with the pain and the popping sensation.
What treatment(s) are needed?
The pain radiates from the top of the arch of my foot to the heel. The pain was minimal at the beginning of the day, then got worse as the day went on. I taped my foot after a few days of this and am using a walker and crutches I already had to keep weight off of it as much as possible.
I am a few weeks away from having insurance, and have to wait until then to get it checked out.
Due to a fall I have an increased pain in the top of my foot. Feels like a bump there. My dtr had xray taken because foot swelled up quite a bit. Xray only showed I have a tiny plantar spur. Have problems with lack of support for my feet as well, due to being born with crooked feet, for which I wore braces. Wear supports in all shoes. Dtr told me to rest foot and keep pillow under it. Did this for a few hours a day but have things I need to do!
For the last 6-8 weeks I have been having pain when I step on my feet in the morning, it feels like the bones in the top of my foot are pressing together, I generally goes away once I walk on it until I sit a while. Until later in the evening it beguins again. Lately though it feels like a nerve or something is being pinched in my shin and I have to take ibuprophen before going to bed so that it doesn't wake me.
I am having all sorts of pain in my foot and leg and can't seem to get a diagnosis. So far, I've seen two podiatrists, neurologst, PCP, and will see an orthopedic surgeon in about a month. Last year I rolled over my big toe with a pallet jack that had a pallet on it at an old job. Well at the time it didn't break my foot or cause any bruising or any type of problem that required medical attention so I let it go.
