Avatar f tn Rest cramps: Cramps at rest are very common, especially in older adults, but may be experienced at any age, including childhood. Rest cramps often occur during the night. While not life-threatening, night cramps (commonly known as nocturnal cramps) can be painful, disruptive of sleep, and they can recur frequently (that is, many times a night, and/or many nights each week). The actual cause of night cramps is unknown.

Avatar m tn I am having constant foot cramps. Do you have any ideas on what might be causing this?
Avatar m tn I've been having constant foot cramps. Podiatrist recommended some stretches and stuff, but also suggested a thyroid test. FT3 is 3.22 (2.57-4.43) FT4 is 1.17 (0.64-1.77) TSH is 4.24 (0.27-4.2) Anti-Tg is 41.14 (1000 (<5.61) So the TSH is just a hair too high, but the anti-TPO is off the chart. Is there a thyroid problem or not? What does this mean? I've got an appointment with an endocrinologist, but I just want to get ahead of the game.
Avatar m tn The various causes of foot cramps or tightening or painful contraction in the middle of foot are an over exerted foot poor foot circulation, lack of potassium, dehydration, pinched nerves due to electrical impulse from brain not reaching the muscles, alcohol or tobacco use, nutritional deficiency, etc. sciatica has been the previous culprit causing pain in back and thigh and leg cramps. Avatar m tn I take a daily calcium supplement on the recommendation of my doctor. I also drink milk and take magnesium vitamin D3, none of which affects my cramps. I do find that when my potassium levels drop too low, I have the cramps much worse than at other times. I also get them worse if I don't drink enough water. For potassium, I take an OTC potassium capsule - one per day is all it takes, along with drinking several glasses of water.

13126824 tn?1428652469 I have to wake up and go downstairs and walk, due to cramps in my toes, where they curl upward and cramps on the top of my foot. Does this have anything to do with medication? I take Zoloft and Abilify for bipolar disorder. My sugar levels were heightened due to Abilify, but I am now taking Metfforman to level out my sugar level because Abilify has the ability to heighten sugar levels. I am not a diabetic. Does cholesterol have anything to do with this cramping?
Avatar f tn I got leg cramps and foot cramps and disturbed sleep when my meds were too low. It was amazing how fast the cramps came back when the last stoopid endo lowered my meds because my TSH was too low to suit him ( he thought I shouldn't be on meds at all) ! Seems like both your FREE's are too low, doesn't it ? Now that I've increased my thyroid meds again, the leg cramps are gone and the foot cramps are almost gone.
Avatar m tn potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle cramps in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms.

Avatar n tn She suggested I also take a vitamin B12 complex supplement as well (which I do). She said that vitamin E, fish oil, and evening primrose oil supplements are all aimed at relieving skin and muscle pain, neuropathy, and cramps, and would be safe to try until I found what works best for me. All are inexpensive, over-the-counter, and have lots of information surrounding them. She also suggested I keep a diary or journal to see if there was a pattern to my complaints; i.e.
Avatar f tn Your title question, if back problems can cause foot problems, yes, it can, peripheral neuropathy is the name, I've got it. And while could be that's what you have, you could in the alternative have Restless Legs Syndrome RLS, which I ALSO have! And my lower back is a wreck. A neurologist is the person to diagnose either one of those and treat it.

Avatar f tn I have Fibromyalgia. I get excruciating cramps (charlie horses) in my calfs, toes, arch of feet, top of feet, inner right thigh, sides of calfs from the outside knee down to ankle. When I walk outside my home such as going to get groceries I am sure to have these cramps at night. They may also come during the daytime. My fingers and hands spasm also. My fingers on my right hand will pull in toward the center or my hand.. I became very ill about 2 years ago.
