Avatar m tn I broke my growth plate in my foot in late July, had the cast on for about 6 weeks, a walking boot for about 2 or 3, and then physical therapy up until early October (they dismissed me from therapy early because i was doing much better than expected). However whenever I mess with my foot (like twist it or apply pressure) i can tell that somethings wrong because i still feel slight pain. SHould I go back to see my orthopedic doctor, go back to therapy, wear my walking boot again?
Avatar m tn yesterday i got my cast off which i had for 3 weeks because of skating. i had a fractured growth plate which could not be seen on x-rays so we talked to my uncle who was an orthopedic and he said it was fractured no matter what. the fracture was just a crack. and so he told me to have it for 3 weeks and so i got it off and at first i was really weak with my foot so i gained strength and its back to normal but the only thing i noticed is i cant run or jump or take heavy impact.
Avatar n tn Hi. I would just like to know if its only areas with broken bones? I had a kidney removed and I've noticed a lot of hair growth on my stomach. Being a young 20 year old its devastating to have this issue..
Avatar f tn My 8 year old son hurt his ankle three weeks ago in a soccer game, after two sets of xrays showing no fractures or obvious growth plate concerns, his orthopedic doctor ordered an MRI. He was diagnosed with a mild bone contusion or bruise. The mri showed no issue with ligaments or tendons and confirmed no fractures or growth plate concerns. He has been in an immobilizing walking brace for two weeks now, going on three.....How long does something like this typically take to heal up in a child?
Avatar m tn im 5'9 and turning 20 on August 11. How much growth potential do I have left?
Avatar n tn igf-1 is a blood test and if bone age has 17 months left maybe he has a little growth left, he probably finished growing as puberty entered and matured the growth plate, completing his growth spurt
Avatar f tn (He tolerates pain VERY well) The dr says he cant see if the growth plate is broke or not, and he said the long bone looks fractured but he said he doubts it is due to the fact that my son said he doesnt hurt there. His ankle is swollen now..if it has been swollen this whole time I dont know though, I would have taken him in sooner if I had known. My question is, do I need to get him to the orthopedist ASAP, or is it a strain or sprain like the ER Dr.
Avatar f tn My daughter was diagnosed with a grade 1 fracture of the growth plate in her left foot after a soccer game injury. There has been nothing found seen on the X-rays or mri scans but based on pain and symptoms was diagnosed as such. She has been in a walking boot off and on for 5-6 weeks. Injury occurred 8 weeks ago. Dr’s have said the injury should be healed and no clear answer as to why pain persists. We have tried non weight bearing with crutches for a week too and pain continues.
Avatar m tn Hello Doctors, I've just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
1026639 tn?1251963493 As all the bones have fused at your age and there is no problem with the growth plate but follow all instructions properly and you will recover with physiotherapy after taking rest for some days after the removal. Following proper asepsis is very important and also avoid infections. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have no arch left as my bones have all collasped. I also get 3mthly cortizone shots into my broken bones to relieve the inflamation the best pain relief ever. Are you still getting any treatment??
Avatar n tn Hello! Im 13 years old and a few years back i did a fly away off of the bars, & landed with my thumb back. I had all the same things happen, But i was NOT able to move my thumb or hand at all. My hand was shattered in three spots! Gymnastics is very dangerous. That same year i also broke my foot, The thought i had a broken growth plate. Truth is doctors don't know what the growth plates are suppose to look like.. Go take her to an orthapedic surgeon! They're fabulous.
Avatar n tn Here is what I suggest: go see an orthopedist or podiatrist. Have the physician give her a total ankle block (anesthesia block using lidocaine---marcaine will interfere with a child's growth plate and should not be given for local anesthesia). If she has pain 15 minutes after the block, she may have psychological issues. If I gave an ankle block to a child or adult, I could cut open the foot and use power tools on the bone and the person would not feel pain!
Avatar f tn t think this is exactly the same thing, but one of my pits had a problem with a growth plate in her front leg where the ulna growth plate closed early and the radius kept growing, causing it to 'jump' the joint. It created something like walking on a permanently dislocated elbow joint. She had orthopedic surgery at 9 months where they sheared off part of the head of the bone and rebuilt the joint. She has been fine since then and just turned 12.
Avatar m tn after having an operation to repair both breaks a steel plate was fitted to add strength to the recovery of my leg break. it had been 3 weeks since the op just got my stiches out and dr told me to start walking on it slowely, i been walking not putting to much weight on it but is very painfull when im walking. has anyone had this done orbeen in this situation? have you recovered 100%.
Avatar n tn I would get a baseline level of somatomedin C which is the hormone that growth hormone from the brain tells the liver to make and the two work at the growth plate to elongate the bones. Also I would check thyroid functions and celiac antibodies to see if he is not gaining weight due to abnormal metabolism or celiac disease which is a gluten allergy (wheat).
Avatar f tn The whole body weight is supported by foot and all the tendons of the leg muscles are inserted in your leg bones and with this fracture and the screws and all the foreign bodies inserted inside you are having constant irritation with standing/walking etc. So you have to take pain killers and learn how to support your weight and decrease your pain slowly, your Physiotherapist can explain it to you. Take care!
Avatar n tn I believe I recognize that feeling of a hot, sharp sensation - as though someone lit gas on your foot. I broke both bones quite badly in my lower leg and after surgery I had the same feeling you're talking about. In my case it was nerve damage - it felt like someone was lighting matches and tossing them on my foot. Now, in the same area, I have no feeling on my foot. What does your doctor have to say about the problems you're having?
Avatar f tn s foot is 1 size larger than his other foot and he still has complete bruising of the foot and where the incision was. You will probably never regain 100% movement. However, if you are concerned you should talk to your doctor or phyiscal therapist. The pain and numbness is normal because they had to cut through nerves. The numbness/burning is the nerves more than likely trying to repair themself. The pain is just because you had a major surgery. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Hi i started taking accutane 10mg which is a low dose accutane i have completed 1 month course but i m just 15 years old and not completed my skeletal growth is my growth plate fused plz tell me how much time does low accutane take to stop height growth??
Avatar f tn Absolutely keep up the exercises! -they will stimulate bone growth-Are you taking NSAIDs?There is evidence that they hinder bone growth. Unless you are trained in radiology I wouldn't worry. I recall looking at my own x-rays and seeing gaps for months&months.I did end up having a bone graft done on my fibula 5 months after my injury but my tibia didn't look a big bunch different to my untrained eye. This injury is a drag (to put it mildly) just try to hang in there.
1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar f tn I fractured the lower part of my fibula near the growth plate one week ago, and was in a Splint for 3 days.
Avatar f tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include infections, inflammations, bursitis, neuroma, growth from the bones or the surrounding connective tissue etc. It would be best to have this evaluated by an orthopedician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hello, all! I fractured my left tibia and growth plate when I was 14 and did not need surgery due to location. After healing I have problems with movement of the ankle, foot numbness, and foot being cold. 12 years later I broke the right side transverse processes L1-L4 being bucked off a horse. Had a bulging disc L4 L5 which "healed" and turned into degeneration. Also L5-S1 has severe degeneration as a result of everything.
Avatar m tn However my question is,other than the epiphysis of the long bones, can Accutane possibly also lead to premature fusion of bones other than the long bones, such as the cranial sutures of the skull? Or is this side effect reserved to the long bones? As you can tell, I am extremely concerned about this issue and would therefore appreciate as detailed a response as possible, calling on your medical knowledge in this area and literature you may be aware of.
