Common Questions and Answers about Foot anatomy muscles tendons

foot

Avatar f tn You would have the tingling sensation due to irritation of your nerves, It is purely a post operative thing as you have explained, due to change in anatomy and the alignment of your tendons, muscles and with movement you are having this nerve irritation. You should be taught some exercises and strengthening of the muscles in that area to give relief for long term. Your surgeon has to explain all the methods of keeping the pain at bay, and consult a good Physiotherapist.
Avatar m tn yes... the tendons...but not likely the nerves.
279234 tn?1363105249 The spasticity causes chronic tightening of the muscles. The muscles are attached to the bone by the tendons. Over time the tendons shorten and continue shortening until the joint involved becomes permanently contractured. the other thing that can cause shortening of the tendons is atrophy of its muscle - like from paralysis or immobilization. Stretching a shortened tendon is a long, and sometimes painful endeavor.
Avatar f tn In the end, the strength would never be back to normal. Fortunately, there are other muscles in the foot that help the foot when walking. I would recommend orthotics for stability and a brace to help support the alternate foot while the tendons heel.
Avatar f tn The whole body weight is supported by foot and all the tendons of the leg muscles are inserted in your leg bones and with this fracture and the screws and all the foreign bodies inserted inside you are having constant irritation with standing/walking etc. So you have to take pain killers and learn how to support your weight and decrease your pain slowly, your Physiotherapist can explain it to you. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have just gotten drop foot in the last month and also had a discetomy of L4 and L5. I am wondering how long will I be like this? Before the foot dropped Ihad a pain that ran from my knee to my ankle I didnt get much sleep during the night because of the pain. I was working extremely hard and for nearly 12 hours a day most days.
Avatar n tn Also, my the 4 toe on my right foot sometimes bothers me. I am 35 and have worn uncomfortable heels for years and my right foot is slightly larger than my left foot. When I begin to panic about all of this and look things up on the web my chest bone begins to hurt and I then feel like my throat is closing up. I've always been a rational person and of late am completely freaked out that I might have ALS and it consumes me day and night. Please offer some guidance.
1294547 tn?1275655777 You can look up the definition, but it involves the tendons on the bottom of the foot where they attach to the heel and follows the arch of your foot. The areas where they attach get microscopic tears when you stand up after being off your feet for any length of time(the longer you are off your feet, the worse the pain when you stand back up again).
579469 tn?1311705550 Plus yesterday I was diagnosed with some foot problems, including a fracture in my left foot. Now my foot is all bandaged up and I have to hobble around house. (The fun never stops.) For those of you still trying to manage pain relief w/o opiates, what works for you now? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If your symptoms have been occuring for some time, and if the EMG and your examination were normal (besides the twitching) 2 months after symptom onset, this makes ALS much less likely.
Avatar m tn I read someone's post about having tendon replacement surgery done after dealing with foot drop for quite a while. Ideas wondering if anyone else has had this fine and can make recommendations on a surgeon or surgical center that does this. I found one in Dallas but that's it. The surgeons don't specialize in this where I have been before and I want someone who is very familiar with the surgery.
Avatar f tn You may have damaged the nerves, tendons, muscles or ligaments of foot that are connected to the toes. It could also be stress fractures of the bones of the foot. You will need MRI of the whole foot, X-rays of the foot, EMG and nerve conduction studies for a confirmed diagnosis. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn I will admit that my extensor tendons, ligament, and muscles were very weak and it took a while to get the abilty to lift my toes/foot up but now can do this with no problem. Why does it feel different in the pool? Also it hurts more when I put on athletic shoes than with slippers or crocs. Is this foot pain normal? Is this the result of the atrophy of my calf, leg, and foot muscles? What do I need to do to get it better?
Avatar f tn The pain is the symptom you perceive and it is due to the packing of many muscles and tendons on the foot and also the blood vessels and nerves which supply it. You bear the weight of your whole body on the foot so pain is perceived more with ankle injuries. Take care!
Avatar m tn Mild signal abnormality is seen of the peroneus brevis and longus tendons at a level lateral to the calcaneun. The Achilles, posterior tibialis, flexor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum longus, peroneus brevis and longus, and the 3 extensor tendons are otherwise unremarkable. Ligaments: Evaluation is limited due to motion artifact. The deltoid, anterior talofibular, posterior talofibular, and calcaneofibular ligaments and the interosseous ligaments show no evidence of rupture.
Avatar n tn I am 45 and still cant make a fist with my left hand. Used to I couldnt with my right hand but due to me being right handed I have stretched my tendons. to be able to do so. I was born with only 1 tendon in a few fingers causing me not to be able to make a fist. My Dr. at age 6 told my mom to have me squeeze a soft ball in the palm of my hand while watching tv etc. to stretch the tendons. My great grandmother was this way and my daughter but it skipped my mother.
Avatar f tn If you are concerned, you should see a doctor. It could be that the muscles, tendons or ligaments are overworked. Try using ace bandages at night to hold the muscles in place. Try anti-inflammatories until you can get to a doctor. Hopefully this will help with the pain and discomfort. Please go see a doctor if you are concerned to make sure that you did not tear something. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn Have you been evaluated for plantar fascitis? There are braces you can purchase that you wear in bed at night to keep your foot/ankle in a neutral position. In the morning, try doing calf stretches - this is what my husband does. There are a couple ways to do this: Stand about a couple feet from the wall, place your hands on the wall and do a backward "lunge" with the bad foot. Try to place your foot flat on the floor, which will stretch the achilles tendon.
Avatar m tn for a year now i have been having foot pain that goes into my calfs somtimes and in the fromt of my leeft lower leg with a bit of burning pain in my feet i was told it was planter muscle but my god its been over a year and i have tried everything is there anybody else like this ??
Avatar n tn It's hard to say what caused the original condition or injury. (New or improperly fitted shoes, an activity you weren't used to, etc.) However, it is not uncommon for pain in one joint to lead to pain in other joints and adjacent soft tissues. When you have pain in your foot, for example, the nearby muscles and tendons tense up in an unconscious effort to "protect" the affected joint (or joints - the foot has dozens). It's no mystery, then, why that area of your shin.
712042 tn?1254569209 Surgery can release the contracture but you would have to ask the doctor whether both the agonist and antagonist muscles will still work. In my case my doctor mentioned snipping my tendons controlling my toe flexors but i decided against that because it was a permanent fix that would never allow me to ever get toe flexion again, this is different than tendon reattachment.
Avatar n tn Shin Spints is either micro swelling of muscles and tendons, slight tearing away of muscle tissue, or small cracks in the outer bone surface (periosteum). Causes of shin splints can be over-use, excessive bouncing movements, muscle imbalance, or working out on hard surfaces. So do stretches, elevate and add ice, or see a physiotherapist. In addition, poor forefoot cushion and poor balance support of footwear can excentuate the pain. Try wearing runners whenever possible and avoid heels anytime.
666921 tn?1254990618 Does anyone feel like their muscles/tendons are 'over-sensitive' - easily over-worked/pulled ?
