Common Questions and Answers about Food to lower blood sugar quickly

Avatar n tn my blood sugar is 245 b4 bed how do I lower it quickly to a range that is comfortable?
Avatar n tn I am about 1 and 1/2 month with high BG, as insulin or food tries to lower BG, blood pressure tends to increase. I ate at 11am, hence no humalog is present in my body,Now time is 3-30pm, sugar is 10.5, I ate a chicken leg, I am feeling shaky, blood pressure increased, and sugar went down to 9. Due to lack of food, sugar was going up, liver was dumping, chicken leg helped to stop dumping. As soon as sugar will be stabilized, blood pressure will be stabilized.
Avatar n tn My now 6-year-old son has been having episodes upon waking in the morning, which were happening about twice a year, but have increased in frequency to once every one to two months. He is lethargic, extremely weak (explained by him as having no power), and is very pale. Every time this happens, he will not wake on his own. Nearly every time, something sugary with recover him quickly, although sometimes he will vomit before we can even make it to the kitchen.
Avatar f tn The key to preventing cravings for sweets is to keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day and keep yourself from getting too hungry. You should have protein in every meal, there should be five to six per day. A scoop of protein powder, handful of almonds or stick of string cheese is all you need. Replace white rice, pasta and bread with whole grains such as oats, quinoa, brown rice and barley.
Avatar f tn Before preparing food quickly I checked my blood sugar which was 4.2 which is great, that’s within range. Why do I get low blood sugar symptoms then? Or can they happen within range as well? My fasting blood sugar is 4.9, so that’s my morning sugar and I do not feel too hot in the morning. After I had eaten a small meal it landed at 5.2 which also looks great to me? Which makes me wonder why I get so insanely sleepy about 1 hour after I eat. Any insights?

72351 tn?1281996142 Both actually have sugar in them. The sugar in regular soda goes into your blood sugar comparatively quickly which will naturally stimulate your body to produce insulin. You may also be a little more active during the day which helps with lowering blood sugars. The sugars in the milk are absorbed into the blood stream a little slower than refined sugars which is actually better for your body because it doesn't put that immediate demand on your body to produce insulin.
390388 tn?1279639813 The blood testing a few weeks later showed a issue with the blood sugar. When a person is said to be Glucose intolerant what is that incomparison to being Type 2 diabetic? Avatar f tn He eats 3 huge meals and several healthy snacks a day, half the time he says he's not hungry and can I leave the table, but then not even 5 minutes later he's creeping off into the kitchen as quiet as a mouse, raiding every cupboard and fridge grabs the sweetest thing he can find (usually jams, peanut butter, sugar (I mean actual sugar the stuff you add to coffee and bake with - No Joke) He will even eat rotten food out of the bin, I have spoken to Doctors and have been laughed at and was even
Avatar n tn His mom told me that he's had really high blood sugar lately but he says she's exaggerating. I think he is trying to lower it though. Does type 1 make you hungry a lot? He eats like non stop but stays fit anyway. It goes right through him. One more thing, he has an addiction to diet coke/ this just him or is it because of the type 1?
Avatar n tn To determine this there are 2 simple tests a Dr. can do. First is an A1c test. This simple blood test measures blood sugar levels over an extended period of time - approximately 3 months - even though it is only taken once. The second test is a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) this test measures how quickly a persons body responds to a given amount of sugar ingested. This tells the Dr. if your body is producing and using its Insulin normally or not.
Avatar f tn white flour, white bread, white rice, potatoes, crackers as these quickly turn into sugar after eating. * Be sure to eat food if you're consuming alcohol and avoid using , sugary soft drinks as mixers. Lastly, Your doctor is correct about making lifestyle changes. If you make changes now - stop with the M&M's and "cheating a lot with candy and sugary stuff." hopefully you can reverse your condition.

The restricted access to blood causes even more quarantined liver cells to die. As such, HCV progressively scars the liver. Since people living with HCV have this consistent battle being waged in their liver, they are more vulnerable to toxins that could damage this organ.
Avatar f tn You will also need blood tests to monitor your kidney and liver function, blood sugar, blood clotting, blood cells, levels of salts (electrolytes, eg potassium), and amount of the medicine in your blood. Measuring the level of medicine in your blood helps your doctor to prescribe you the correct dose. If you get diarrhoea during treatment, this can affect the amount of medicine in your blood and extra monitoring of your tacrolimus blood level is recommended.

Avatar f tn I searched on the internet and found the explanation that my immune system was misidentifying sugar in my blood as an invader and would them generate histamine to combat the invader. To me it made since because a single antihistamine pill worked fairly well. I spoke to my family doctor about the "invader theory" and he agreed it could be correct. I asked if it would get better with time and he said "no it could get worse".

My symptoms of severe insulin resistance (that i know of) - very prominent buffalo hump, high hip to waist ratio (0.
Avatar m tn ginseng can help increase energy and normalize blood pressure. Whole licorice (not licorice candy) can also help raise low blood pressure. Eat a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably organic) for their protective phytochemicals and micronutrients needed for optimal metabolism. Become a grazer. A large meal can trigger the body to release more insulin, resulting in low blood sugar levels and fatigue.
Avatar n tn The second path is around the types of carbs you take while exercising. Glucose tablets are an excellent way to raise blood sugar quickly, because they are made of the most basic form of glucose, and it gets absorbed very quickly. But I know many people that do not like them. I met a marathon runner who works for Animas who was diagnosed when he was a kid. During marathons, he uses packets of honey (like what you'd get at a restaurant).
Avatar m tn First when your blood sugar rises too high, causing your pancreas to release a large amount of insulin that drops your blood sugar too low, and second, a slow drop in blood sugar caused by your liver running out of stored sugar. Doctors used to think that insulin-induced hypoglycemia follows meals and that your liver running out of sugar doesn't follow meals, but they now know that both types can occur any time.

Avatar f tn DHEA is precursor for steroid hormones such as testosterone and estrogen, an important regulator of the thyroid and pituitary glands, and is shown to lower LDL and total cholesterol and improve insulin resistance. Causes of low DHEA include age (DHEA peaks at age 25 then declines at a rate of about 2% per year); prolonged stress, depression or anxiety; disease; sugar; nicotine; caffeine; alcohol; nutritional imbalances; a vegetarian diet low in cholesterol and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn Need advice, I'm 57 + back in Oct. 2010 I had my 2 lower wisdom teeth removed. The oral surgeon told me due to my age there was a chance I'd have numbness, but it might not be permanent. The left side of my chin, lip + teeth became numb, I've had 2 follow up visits + was feeling some improvement. Now in the last 2 weeks the numbness has become more intense than at any time. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Avatar n tn To Jennifer M, I am not a Dr but I have had the tilt table test and whilst I do not understand the exact physiological processes involved, I can relate my experience to you- it involves being strapped to a table which is then tilted to a certain angle causing blood to pool in your legs. The purpose of the test is to determine if any episodes of syncope or pre-syncope may be caused by vasovagal attacks thus possibly ruling out arrythmogenic causes.
