Avatar m tn A year or so ago I finally went to an ENT, she said I had alergic rhinitis and prescribed fluticasone. 6 months later I went back because I still had constant congestion and usually a sore throat. I think the fluticasone made it a little bit better. Hard to tell. She gave me cetirizine (Zyrtec) in addition to the Fluticasone. Together they help a little, but they also make me sleepy all the time, and I still have congestion all the time.
Avatar m tn 500 mcg of fluticasone , increases the likelihood of pneumonia. The administration of systemic (oral) corticosteroids is a known risk factor for tuberculosis (TB). It has been reported that high dose ICS is associated with the development of pulmonary TB in persons with COPD* For this reason, it has been recommended that every patient with COPD should undergo chest radiography, sputum acid-fast smear, and mycobacterial culture before receiving, as well as regularly during, HD ICS therapy.
Avatar f tn However, it has been suggested by some studies that inhaled steroids, particularly when used in high doses such as with Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, may cause steroid side effects and, at most, contribute in an additive way to post-menopausal and other types of osteoporosis.
Avatar m tn The stasis could promote this smell from the sinuses, proper drainage of the sinuses may help to reduce the stasis of secretions and consequently the smell. Check with your doctor to see if you need any surgical intervention for proper drainage of the sinuses. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The best way to slow progression is smoking cessation. The rate of loss of lung tissue in COPD is roughly 3 times as fast for smokers as it is for those who quit. Good luck.
Avatar m tn If it is due to injury to nose internally then this may recover. The various tests carried out to detect the cause of loss of smell is CT scan of nasal sinuses, MRI of brain, allergy testing, and blood glucose levels. This is followed by quantitative smell test which helps identifies the degree of loss. You can try smelling things consciously and eating highly seasoned foods to provide triggers to smell and taste. Please consult your neurologist too. Take care!
233622 tn?1279334905 Sorry if I have posted this question before. Any one have a loss of smell? I can not smell natural gas or my kids messy diapers. My MS doctor said she would generally send someone with a loss of smeel for an MRI to see if there was a tumor that was causing the problem but I had an MRI. I told her I thought it was from chronic allergies or sinus problems. She said sinus problems can cause loss of smell. We didn't talk about if it could be related to MS but I do wonder.
Avatar f tn Up to 40 percent of people with other viral infections, such as influenza or the common cold, experience a temporary loss of smell that usually reverses itself in a couple weeks. The condition is also common among people with allergies.
Avatar f tn Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I have not been advised supplemental oxygen as of yet.

Avatar n tn I fractured my skull Jan 2012 with bleeding, loss of consciousness all after a seizure. Two week later I lost my sense of taste and smell and later developed a bad taste/smell. Eating is NOT pleasant. I no longer enjoy pleasant scents. I only apply perfume I know smells good to me. I've lost 30 pounds simply because I can hardly stand the taste of food. It could be worse, I could have lost my eye sight or hearing. I try to look at it that way.
Avatar n tn It could sometimes be due to the medication. As fluticasone propionate causes irritation of the nasal mucus membranes. Other adverse events that occurr with fluticasone propionate (with uncertain relationship to treatment) include: blood in nasal mucus, runny nose, flu-like symptoms, aches and pains, and dizziness. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I found he lost sight of the reason for being there was for me to get rid of the pressure in the head and to get a normal flow of my sinuses, not a lecture on using an over the counter medication. My question, why can't anyone find the cause of my head pressure/headahe, and how do I get my sinuses to drain and keep my nose moist. I've been off the Oxymetazoline for three months and placed on Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much!
Avatar m tn Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. Injury to olfactory and lingual nerves of smell and taste could be a cause or it could be that nerves are in shock. Once swelling and contusion following the fall will subside some taste and smell may return. However, when this will happen is difficult to say. Your father should be shown to a neurologist once. Take care!
Avatar f tn Fever and loss of smell and taste are suspicious for COVID; consider getting tested.
Avatar m tn I believe though that it has gotten worse over the past few years, for no obvious reason. The real thing that seems weird is in the same time frame my sense of smell has significantly decreased. I rarely smell anything anymore, on average 1 scent every other day or so, but only certain strong smells. I've researched some and they contributed it to parkinsons but I'm not that old yet. I have a cigar here and there but smoking can't be the cause.
2114467 tn?1358210256 At least that is what my case manager and my pharmacist said. In addition, when I received my first box of meds from the pharmacy, they included a bottle of Benadryl capsules. I would check with the pharmacist at the pharmacy that is supplying the Hep C medication. They should have a list of all of your meds. Even if they do not have a list, they should be able to tell you if Flonase is okay to use with Hep C meds. I would also check with your doctor.
