fluoxetine vs paxil

Has anyone had any problems with the SSRI Paxil. Any visual problems or side effects after starting this medicine?

Fluoxetine is generic Prozac. I've been on it a few times, and I'm back on it again. It will take 4-6 weeks before you begin to feel a difference (sometimes sooner). But it will happen. The only side effect I've ever had from it was insomnia, but that always goes away in a few weeks, so give it some time. As far as alcohol goes, you don't say how much you drank, but I have had a couple of beers now and then on fluoxetine without any problems.

Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.

I have been off fluoxetine for about 2 weeks now, because nomattterhow strict my diet, i cant seem to loose weight I gained whilst taking fluoxetine, which was getting me very down. I went to gp who has prescribed me paroxetne. Looking on the web, it seems that this ADis even worse for weight gain, So I now dont know what to do. Should i stay off all ad and see, or take the prescribed paroxetine or go bak to fluoxetine, i just dont know.

If you took a lot of both drugs, Melatonin and fluoxetine. Would/could they do any serious damage? I am on fluoxetine and take melatonin regularly.

Sabrina, yes paxil,like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.

Hello there, Fluoxetine or Prozac belongs to the group of antidepressants called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. (SSRIS). These drugs tend to cause less sedation and have different side effects to older antidepressants. Fluoxetine or Prozac elevates mood, increases physical activity and restores interest in everyday pursuits. Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.

SSRIs often interact with the metabolism of lots of medications. Paroxetine (Paxil), Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Citalopram/Escitalopram (Celexa, Lexapro) are inhibitors of CYP2D6 - the enzyme responsible for metabolizing lots of medications. Fluvoxamine (Luvox) is inhibiting another enzyme. Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said.

The only thing I suggest without going to something like paxil is to run or do marathons and obtain a natural runners high and it will train your brain quicker to pump out endorphins on its own without artificial inflation. With SSRIs there are the 'Zaps'. Erm describing them I would find rather difficult but if you get them you will know them. Feels like being dropped momentarily. They don't last too long a couple of weeks tops and i didn't find them particularly bothersome foreither Paroxetine or Fluoxetine.

some would simply ask the person to come in after being in severe W/D, and give them a couple Suboxone to relieve their symptoms, then let the Suboxone slowly wear off. That is similar to using fluoxetine to help a person stop taking paxil. Other places got people on a regular dose of Suboxone and then decreased it over a few days.

I have had ongoing stomach problems for years, started off on Nexium so I could take Panefen Plus for extreme period pain ( I had already been taking it extensively before going on Nexium). The Nexium was to aid my discomfort when taking Panefen which I believe was what started my stomach problems. After a year the Nexium started to wear off.

I have anxiety issues and have tried fluoxetine, sertraline, (both led to decreased sex drive and lack of orgasm) and now escitalopram (which helped the sexual aspect but still gaining). I am also on requip 0.5mg for my RLS and iron 325mg for my low iron and ferritin. When I have increase in anxiety i take lorazepam which is usually at night for me right before bed. Do any of these combo of drugs increase wt gain? I just don't know where to turn as for as the increasing in wt.

Also, the only one SSRI who work in the past for my panic disorder is the Paxil... but hte Paxil do nothing for the social anxiety, like all the antidepressant meds I try... anyway, the main problem is that I try to be back on The Paxil at least 10 times in 2010 and wasn't able to tolerate more than 1 mg at the time... I had increase anxiety to the point that I had to go to the ER... So I don't know what do to?

Hi all, I just stop taking paxil (30 mg a day) about 4 days ago, I have been taking this drug since 1 a year ago, I had to stop taking it cause right now Im low on budget and I maybe be able to buy another bottle of the medication in 2 or 3 more days. The thing is that I had in my medikit a bottle of prozac (fluoxetine) and a few months ago I bought a bottle of 5HTP so I started to take a capsule of 5HTP and a 20mg pill of prozac since paxil went empty.

t know the half of it with Paxil and Effexor. An incompetent psychiatrist took me off Paxil incorrectly, and three years later I'm still a goner. No life left. Irony is, I went off it to try natural remedies, and they had the reverse effect after withdrawal. Drugs are dangerous, but herbs and natural remedies also require a lot of expertise to dose properly.

hi i want to stop paxil and go onto fluoxetine but dont no if to do the straight swap like the doctor wants me to do or to cross taper i have no idea how to cross taper either
