Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine side effects how long do they last

Avatar n tn my heart is racing all the time and my mind won't stop worrying. Is this normal side effects? If so how long do I have to wait them out, I don't think I can last much longer, I feel worse than when I started but my doc says it should subside. Anyone have any experience with this that can help ease my mind? I have even started taking them every other day and am taking lorazapam to help the anxiety. Any advice please.................
Avatar n tn Long story short, after 3 weeks of being on the increased dosage if I persist and wait a few more weeks will the side effects to go away, is it normal for an increase in dosage to have this affect and how long do the side effects usually last? Or should I go back to my GP and be reducing back down to 20mg until I see the psychiatrist. If it is likely these are just interim side effects I can persist for another few weeks.

Avatar f tn Mirtazapine is a good antidepressant and anxiolytic, with few side effects. It doesn't have the SSRI side effects like nausea, headache, initially increased anxiety and GI problems. In fact, due to the pharmacological profile it actually counteracts these side effects from SSRIs, which is why the combination is fairly common. It's a strong sedative (from the antihistaminergic effects) and can give you an energy boost the next day (from the noradrenergic effects).
Avatar n tn Hi! I have been on anti-depresants for 20yrs!! and for 16 of them Prozac!! i dont know how i'm still alive suffering depression for all of my life but I too cannot function normally without Prozac. I do sometimes deteriorate and i wonder if it even works anymore but i would rather take a tablet for the rest of my life and function than totally be in despair of depressive illness. It hasnt done anything so far to me so i think i would just continue taking it like myself.
Avatar f tn With Depressive Meds I think it's takes awhile to kick-in but I would tell your GP about these side-effects. They sound not that great if you're getting pain; did you know there's actually a natural anti-depressant? It's called 'St. John's Wort' it's a abit expensive but it's better than prescribed.
2193833 tn?1339414902 Got over the stomach upset and now have an appetite again. Is it normal for the side effects to last so long after each new dosage increase? I have some good days here and there but it is an up and down road. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn Shrink said there would be NO side effects. How can this be? I know Fluoxetine takes time to build in systems and Venlafaxine goes out of your body quickly. Wont I have withdrawals and then start to feel bad as the Fluoxetine builds up in my system? Today is day 2 am I'm feeling shaky and weak and just awful.
Avatar n tn i was under the impression that prozac isnt that bad especially at such a low dosage. can anyone tell me how long this will last. I want it to get better but it is like i am obbessing about it and it is making it worse.
Avatar f tn i actually know people who have been prescribed it for sleep (which it is NOT approved for) and they can no longer sleep without it, period. they go nuts when they don't have it.....no matter how long they go without it. this is a heavy duty drug meant for people with real psychiatric disorders...you don't want to whip this drug out unless you've got a real reason to. insomnia isn't NEARLY enough reason.
Avatar n tn And for a particular person they can also not do this, so if you aren't suffering this side effect then you don't have that problem. Remember, you're asking can they be a problem, and the answer is, yes, and this is not a combination I would think most psychiatrists would recommend for anyone. But you are the only you, and there might be a reason this was suggested. You haven't said how you ended up in this place.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever experienced a racing heart on Prozac? 2. How long can I expect these symptoms to last? I hear Prozac stays in your body a long time. 3. What is the fastest way to get this Prozac OUT of my body? 4. I read that all SSRIs have stimulating effects. I am in no way depressed and don't need stimulation as I am sensitive to sugar and caffeine. What can be done for my anxiety in this case? Ativan is short term ONLY. 5.
Avatar f tn like the side effects of medications, the low effectiveness of drugs, how to correct chemical imbalances in the brain naturally.
Avatar n tn I am beginning to have very uncomfortable side effects and would like to stop taking it. I would appreciate your guidance in how to quit with the least withdrawal symptoms possible. Also, should I be taking any milder substitute during withdrawal to avoid severe depression ? Thank you very much for your help.
1836616 tn?1328684209 How can you discard someone else's pain as "nothing". How can you say "it's just anxiety". Do you really have any idea how much we want to shove our anxiety aside and pretend it doesn't exist. This just isn't possible for most people on this forum. I know panic attacks won't kill me, but when your in the middle of one you feel like crawling out of your skin. You want to run away from yourself and your feelings.
Avatar n tn I have spent the last couple of days reading some of the posts for the last couple days. Couldn't catch up for the last weeks, not really sure how long. I did miss posting and wondered how everyone was doing. Although I must say that I don't recognize most of the names here anymore. Taeme, I know where you are coming from. That anxious, tight, crappy feeling we can get is a bumber. Have you tried GABA. It has worked for me.
Avatar n tn You said the side effects of FLUOXETINE are nasty and how long do these side effects last? If i take the this meds for 4 weeks and stop completely, will the symptoms come back up again as soon as i stop taking it?? If not, how long will it take for anxiety symptoms to show back up again??? Thanks for sharing your experiences on this.
Avatar f tn they realize that things are not as they appear. An episode of depersonalization can last anywhere from a few minutes to many years. Depersonalization also might be a symptom of other disorders, including some forms of substance abuse, certain personality disorders, seizure disorders, and certain other brain diseases. Depersonalization disorder is one of a group of conditions called dissociative disorders.
968908 tn?1274874715 The psychiatry told me the ssri, fluoxetine are very good and not much side effects but i hardly believed they are more good but hard to say because everyone react to medications different.Have you read the book by Dr claire weekes, hope and help for ur nerves i think she explained the best way on how to cope and recovered from both depression and anxiety as she was once a sufferer herself too.
242516 tn?1368227505 It's important that patients on these medicines don't stop taking their medicines because serious side effects can occur, such as worsening of the depressive symptoms that they initially took them for, including thoughts of suicide for some patients. This is just one study that will be further examined. The great thing is that it's been published in the Public Library of Science online journal.
1571878 tn?1354953383 All of the teenagers who shared their stories on medhelp of their permanent brain damage - they care. They are adults, now. On psychiatric meds that they maybe wouldn't have needed. Feeling less smart, less funny, less able to use their sight and language as they once could. They definitely care, and we owe it to them to a) save ourselves, b) get better, so c) we can fight to spread support and awareness to help others out and, one day, raise enough awareness to do something about this.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the omeprazole as it didn’t appear to be working and last thing I feel I need if I have anything to do with nerves is a medication that depletes vitamin B 12, one of its side effects. Horrible intermittent sensations in chest and throat (either side of windpipe) that can last for up to or over an hour. Difficult to describe – internal quivering/discomfort almost pain. Also under ribs on both sides. Slight headache.
Avatar n tn Hey how long have you been on the fluoxetine for??? today for me is week 4 and a 1 day i felt good at first but was weaning of effexor at the same time as it didn't seem to be helping me with my anxiety and depression. Iv now been off the effexor 17 days and the last couple of days have gone down hill I carn't seem to work out weather its the withdrawing from effexor or the fluoxetine trying to get into my system and keep me at a steady balance. what dose of fluoxetine are you taking???
Avatar f tn Perhaps I need to up my dosage... but if I do this, should I expect any side-effects? I don't know. I only finished councelling a month ago because I was doing better... now I think I should go back.

Avatar n tn He has been under the care of counselors, psychologists, and a psychiatrist. What can we do now? How do you know when ODD is moving into CD? Should he be re-evaluated? How does he back slide so rapidly when there have been no "changes" in his life? It's tearing us apart.
