Avatar f tn I was then prescribed Nystatin oral suspension (3 bottles) and using it helped, but it did not completely clear the thrush. I went to my GP and he then prescribed Fluconazole tablets for me (50mg for 22 days). This has not cleared the thrush either. Up till now, my thrush is still not cleared (since november 2010). I am afraid that it might have become very resistant to medication. Could you please advise me on what to do? Are there any other medications that I can take?

Avatar n tn While from time to time people do get thrush from sexual encounters with infected partners, it would be most unusual for the infection not to respond to either nystatin or fluconazole and the idea that you have failed both raises concerns for me that there may have been a miss-diagnosis and that you might benefit from a second opinion.
Avatar m tn Been diagonosed with Oral thrush, annoying at the back of my tounge on the 'papllae vallatee' and was perscribed Nystan 4 times a day. I take this at 7am - 12pm - 5pm & 10pm. I started the course 4 days ago and about 25% of the thrush has gone, but the rest is persisting. Any advice?
Avatar f tn Are you one any steroid medications like asthma inhalers? Steroids are notorious for causing thrush and I know, it *****! There is a pill that you can take instead of the Nystatin. It is called Fluconazole and you can get it with a prescription and it lasts a whole lot longer if this is something that you are going to continue to have. Rinse your mouth regularly and I hope that this will help.
Avatar m tn II with the last outbreak being almost two years ago, on the 15 Jul 08 I came out with what seemed like a penile yeast infection, I was treated with one fluconazole 150 and Lotrisone cream for 14 days, went away well, I also take Zocor for my hereditary high cholesterol. Around the 14th August 08 I was unusually very stressed about a business deal and later had some unusual dizziness, (It was accompanied by a short bout of dry long coughs), went away quickly..
Avatar m tn oh and the doctor gave me medicine for thrush anyway (two 100 mg fluconazole pills one to take that day and one for 2 days later) and it didnt go away so it must not be thrush
Avatar n tn Does a one time 150 mg dose of fluconazole for vaginal thrush affect the effectiveness of hormonal birth control (the pill)?
Avatar f tn I have had weekly thrush infections for over three years now and have yet to find out exactly why this keeps recurring. My tongue has been cultured, and the coating was found to be Candida albicans. I've been to quite a few doctors, including ENT, infectious disease, allergy, and gastroenterology specialists. Not one of them can offer me any advice on how to rid myself of this painful illness, except for advising me to use antifungals on a regular basis.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with male thrush and was given fluconazole for 3 days 400mg per day. But I had tingling sensation at my penis and went to see the dermatologist again. He said it's nothing and just gave me corticosteroids. I went for blood and urine tests. All negative for chlamydia, gonnorhea, syphilis, chancroid, HIV, HSV2. I also have unprotected vaginal sex with my wife ... she does NOT have any symptoms. No thrush, no discharge, no pain etc. My questions are: 1.
Avatar n tn he diagnosed me with oral thrush and prescribed fluconazole 50mg for 7 days, im currently on day 4 and cannot see any improvement. im basically just wondering are these symptoms definitely not related to hiv? is that definitely reliable? and also how long should the fluconazole take to work. any help would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Thank you for the natural remedy suggestion. The last thing I want is more drugs!! I have just tried the saltwater mouth rinse and gargle. I have been on amoxicillin 500 mg for seven days and now have a very red burnt feeling tongue with white spots at the back of it. I will let you know how it works! It is also suggested that you avoid hot spicy foods, allow hot drinks to cool slightly and avoid acidic citrus fruits.
Avatar f tn There's like a faded pink/orange patch at the top of my penis, just left/below pee hole, whenever I ejaculate, whether it be intercourse or solo, it glows blood red for a couple of hours before returning to normal. Once returned to normal the penis glans then turn very dry and wrinkled. Is this normal? All happened since I got thrush but then cured the thrush, this has stayed?!!
Avatar m tn Sir, I had thrush on penis 10 weeks back. had fluconazole systemic for 15 days but relapsed again in 2 days. Since 1 month have severe myalgia. 689655 tn?1227249113 I had thrush now for the last year and a half-about 13-15 times. Havent got a period anymore, as I am taking cerazette ( mini pill) every day. I kept going back to the doctors, who prescribed cream, different antibiotics, etc. Eventually he prescribed enough fluconazole 150 mg for the next 3 months. I had to take the first three with 72 hours differerence then the leftovers once a week one tablet.
Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering for 3 months now with oral thrush and burning mouth, I’ve tested negative for all Std with multiple tests 17 times in fact and been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatis. Initially was in a 3 month course of different antibiotics and a week after finishing I developed the oral thrush. I’ve tried everything to get rid of it including Fluconazole, nystatin and daktatin but it just comes back.
Avatar f tn Yep sounds like thrush (yeast infection). All you need to do to treat it is to get an antifungal from the chemist. They are generally available over the counter so you don't need to go to the doctor. You can get a once only tablet (fluconazole - Diflucan) or you can use a cream or pessary such as canesten (clotrimazole). It is very common to get thrush after antibiotics as they kill off all the good bacteria and allow there to be an overgrowth of Candida (the yeast that causes thrush).
Avatar m tn So I went to my GP who took a swab test and was confirmed with oral thrush. The thrush is not painful, the white layer is not thick, and after eating or washing my mouth properly the tongue looks better. However my tongue is very white specially in the mornings. I also have a LOT of saliva. I am swallowing every minute because there's just too much. I was reading this can be caused due the bumps (ulcers?) on my tongue. I had fluconazole 50mg during 7 days and did nothing.
Avatar m tn There is a single dose oral capsule that you can buy from the pharmacy without a prescription and this is Fluconazole 150mg - this is mainly used for genital Thrush. Fluconazole 50mg comes in a packet of 7 capsules that are taken 1 a day for 7 days. Sometimes furring of the tongue happens for other reasons other than Thrush so it important for you to see your doctor to diagnose correctly what is causing your furry tongue and prescribe you with the appropriate treatment. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn I started having really agonising symptoms of thrush in the vulva area several weeks ago. I couldn't sleep for the painful itching. I started applying Canesten cream (clotrimazole) twice daily. At first there was a noticeable improvement but after several days it plateaued out and it's not improving anymore. I used an oral tablet of fluconazole which did absolutely nothing. My diet: Very high fibre, mostly vegetarian.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are some reasons for recurrent thrush infection. These include when symptoms may not be due to thrush, when thrush is caused by other strains of Candida spp. such as Candida glabrata( These may not be so easily treated with the usual anti-thrush medicines), you are taking antibiotics, or if you have undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes. You should get a fungal culture of vaginal discharge done and all these causes ruled out.

Avatar n tn So my doc prescribe me fluconazole for a yeast infection I'm currently 30wks pregnant, when I picked it up it had 2 little packets in it with one pill each and doc says to take 1 a day but as I'm reading the instructions it says 1pill clears everything and you only need a 1time dosage. Do I take both pills or just one why would he prescribe me 2 if directions clearly state 1? Any ladies ever had to take for yeast infection while preggo what did your doc prescribe?
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a straight male in my 20's. 6 months ago I had a one night stand with a high risk partner. I was very drunk, but used a condom and don't think it split/came off. I also performed oral sex on her. Since that night i've had so many problems. This is the only sexual encounter I have had from then until now. My problems: About 3 - 4 weeks after this night I found that I had a fungal rash of the groin (front and back).
Avatar f tn I am 56 year old woman who was diagnoised with COPD 10 years ago. I am not taking any oral steroids at this time. I use Duo Neb Inhalation 2 times per day and oxygen on 2 L continously. The Pulmonary Doctor keeps having me try to use Advair but I get thrush in my mouth anytime I'm on Advair or oral steroids. So I try to avoid them if at all possible. I am currently using Spiriva HandiHaler which I believe is not suppose to have any steroids but I keep getting Thrush in my mouth !
Avatar f tn Hi. I’ve had oral thrush for 3 weeks now, been given Nystatin then Fluconazole, 50mg and finally Daktarin, I’ve still got white at the back of my tongue and I’ve also got the feeling of something stuck in my throat, it’s not painful but it is uncomfortable. Why won’t this white tongue go away.
