579469 tn?1311705550 Good post! I have been addicted to afrin nose spay off and on for over 10 years.I too have bad allergies. I can't not stand my nose stuffed up at all. My grandpa , dad, and brother all have been addicted to 4-way nose spray. They don't seem to plan on stopping. I am currently using the afrin nose spray again b/c I got sick and had a stuffed up nose. I also can't sleep with my nose just a little stuffed up.
612551 tn?1450022175 I suffer from night time nasal congestion and frequently use an Afrin-type nose spray once at bedtime... I also use saline spray and try to get by using just that for a few nights - not sure what I used the night of the nose bleed. I also note I am on Coumadin (blood thinner) due to a heart condition. I have no history of nose bleed problems, and have no previous occasions that I sought medical help to stop.
Avatar n tn Twice in the last six months using Flonase my mouth filled with blood from sinuses. Is another medication for sinusitis available?
Avatar n tn Some doctor suggested me a drug Fluticasone propionate. It is generic drug called Flonase. With 30 days of regular spray, I could get away from addiction of Otrivin.
Avatar f tn What kind of nasal spray? Is it a prescription like Nasacort or Flonase or the OTC stuff like Afrin? If it's Afrin that is not supposed to be used all the time, it's really bad. If your nose is bleeding, that could be an infection or maybe from the spray. I'm not sure about the blood pressure. I think you should try to wean off the Afrin. You are probably having what's called *rebound* congestion. Read the label on it. It tells you not to use for more than 3 days.
Avatar m tn Doctors say it is not because of the spray because so little is absorbed into the system through the nose, but I have read online that Beconase is absorbed more than other nasal sprays, (up to 44% of each dose is swallowed). I have seen numerous people reporting palpitations and other systemic effects across the internet after using Beconase and other brands (Nasonex, Flonase etc) of steroid nasal sprays. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar n tn I am having pretty much the same problem. I have had such severe headaches these past few months, not to mention watery right eye, cracking in my ears and can only sleep on one side because ear popping is so bad on the other side,I finally made an appointment with the ear, nose & throat doctor, who has placed me on Nasonex. I took my first spray today and it actually helped. It seems to be waring off now though. Guess time will tell.
Avatar m tn Did you injure your nose, or is it swollen perhaps because of allergies or congestion? I ask because the dark circle under you eye can be from trauma or can be from allergies. They are called allergic shiners. If the swelling is putting pressure inside your nose it can give you a headache and/or earache. What nasal spray did he give you? But to answer you question, yes your symptoms can be because of the swelling in your nose.
Avatar n tn I have went quite a while without a nose spray or antihistamine being ok. Then i will get stuffy/sinus pressure. My Dr ordered a CT scan a year ago and said i had a deviated septum and some nasal polyps. I generally take Flonase. About a week ago the allergies and sinuses really got a hold of me and i had horrible sinus pressure, felt really spacey, had ear fullness and pain, felt a little off but no ear infection. I got put on a antibiotic. I then just started the Flonase back up.
Avatar f tn I'm a first time mommy and I've never had a problem with nose congestion before I became pregnant but now I have to blow my nose 12+ times a day and its mixed with blood every time I'm now 16+2 and its been going on since week 6 everyday is this normal?
Avatar n tn s unfortunate when medication costs so much sometimes that we have to find an alternative. Flonase and Astepro are likely the right names. Flonase is a corticosteroid spray and Astepro is an antihistamine spray. Dymista is a combination medication so it makes sense that the doctor is suggesting the two medications will work as the Dymista did. Let us know how it goes.

Avatar m tn t work and my grandma always suggests vicks vapo rub and to squirt water up my nose and that never works. ive tryied breath right strips, they dont work i need help. im only 17 and i can't go cold turkey i've tried and i can't make it last more then a couple of hours then i freak out.
Avatar m tn Did the doc suggest trying occasional antihistamines. He can also give you a prescription for cortisone nose spray like flonase. You could get some allergy tests, could be allergic to something, like pet hair. Keep yourself from breathing in cold air also, could make it worse. Try vicks rub on your throat also and get those tests and talk more to the doc for more referrals for allergist and prescriptions if it doesn't get better soon. If you have pets, might be pet dander.
Avatar f tn Flonase...isn't that addictive?? Just use a netti pot. I think there are low dose zinc lozenges and supplements. I'd get a 2nd opinion r research more, but imho & recent experience: sore throat came on and went away on its own. So how about just trying a little extra water and orange juice, or squeeze fresh lemon into warm or hot water? Would you give your baby flonase for stuffy nose? If not, don't use it for yourself either. Think about the fact that you can have a baby...
Avatar n tn I had to take my father to ER twice due to severe nose bleeds and he was advised to stop his nose spray and only use Saline. I can't use the nose sprays either or my nose bleeds. I will also have a problem if the weather and house are dry. I use the Saline spray and have noticed an improvement. I do have a deviated septum and was told that can cause nose bleed problems.
Avatar m tn I have a esophagus condition and was told to take flonase and spray 2 shots in my mouth twice a day. Flonase is a steroid and it helps with the inflammation. I had difficulty swallowing to the point of choking and passing out and this has helped me tremendously.
Avatar f tn Yea its okay my doctor prescribed it to me at 8 months
Avatar n tn Moved to Chicago several years ago from Phoenix so the doctor suggested that I may be suffering from allergies as a result. Blood test confirmed grass allergy. Have been using Flonase (SP?) for about 1 month coupled with nasal rinsing system but still have the ringing and drainage. Should I be worried about another culprit besides allergies causing these awful symptoms?? In addition, is there any other over-the-counter meds that may be of use. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I'm 22 male, active and have real high Bp (i guess heriditary) but I'm hoping to get this under control soon with my meds(hydrochloric thiazides, amlodipine) but this started before treatment ... I've had pressure above my nose for over a month now and a weird feeling in the back of my head (spaced out/dizzy kinda feeling) its stronger sometimes then others but is constantly around I recently had a brain/head ct scan and they said all was normal...
20896457 tn?1592763839 Her symptoms cleared once again while on the antibiotic and returned three days after the antibiotic was finished. The Dr also suggested a nasal spray like Flonase but I wanted to hold off on trying that. I finally gave in and bought some yesterday. Although I'm not sure it's allergy related because the symptoms go away while on antibiotics. I'm starting to really get stressed about not knowing what's wrong and not being able to help her.
1939607 tn?1324289300 spray then lie on your side, that side gets more meds. Or if one sinus is stuffed up, the meds don't go down to the throat on that side. My illness details. It started with a really bad sinus infection; I had a lot of pain at the top of my palate, radiating into my nose, ears, and throat. I had a second round of antibiotics (Clarythromicin, Z-Pack) and the second one I was also given Magic Mouthwash (oral lidocane gargle).
Avatar f tn It probably is from that... I suggest getting off the Afrin for at least two weeks. Afrin is very addictive and your systems have probably become totally reliant. You mentioned dryness so you know a little moisture is needed. You will probably get a lot until your system gets over the Afrin. Do not use any other nasal spray. If your nose starts running excessively move to an OTC non-drowsy tablet for nasal congestion and take only one tablet a day.

Avatar m tn I have had asthma my whole life and when I got it (maybe a few times a month max) i'd use my inhaler and I would get that instant relief us asthmatics feel. A few years ago I had an odd experience with my asthma, my chest was tight and I was very short of breath. My inhaler didn't do anything and nebulizer treatments didn't seem to help either. After an hour I felt better but from that day on my breathing/asthma has never been the same.
Avatar n tn So, for 2-3 months I have been using the spray, 2-3 times a day, 1 spray per nostril. When I use it, my nose opens up completely and I can breath great. The effect lasts for about 6 hours and after that my nose gets congested again. After some research online, I think that what is happening is that the spray causes the blood vessels to shrink, opening up my nose passage, and after the effect is gone the blood vessels swell up. Other than that, I haven't had any other side effects.
