I, too, lost my sense of smell after the paramedics banged me on the head. ( They also broke my leg, but a broken leg is trivial compared to a loss of smell.) Too me, it seems everything emits a strange, slightly unpleasant effluvia. It has been 8 months since the EMTs drugged me with 24 shots of fenatyl in a 3-hour period causing me to remain unconscious for the next 8 days and to awake with a broken leg and no sense of smell. The EMTs also gave me Versed and Narcan.

You both bring up something very interesting. Holly, I would suspect that as you get older, your allergies may be flairing up more than before. Now you bring up a good point about the increased sense of smell and trouble in the brain. You are absolutely correct, we don't know exactly how the brain works. If we have lesions in a certain area, I would suspect that you may indeed have a heightened sense of smell. It only stands to reason.

Three weeks after stopping the Advair my sense of smell returned rather suddenly, over a couple of days. It came back in sporadically, like suddenly I smelled the chicken I had cooked, then could not smell anything again that day. The next day I was able to smell for several brief periods, and now, a week later, I'd say my sense of smell is pretty much back to normal. hi my name is Chris and my dad had a bad fall down a flight of stairs and i am scared, but appearantly there are some type of hair folicals in the body and you lose your sense of smell and taste if their shaved off.

I believe though that it has gotten worse over the past few years, for no obvious reason. The real thing that seems weird is in the same time frame my sense of smell has significantly decreased. I rarely smell anything anymore, on average 1 scent every other day or so, but only certain strong smells. I've researched some and they contributed it to parkinsons but I'm not that old yet. I have a cigar here and there but smoking can't be the cause.

I have started going to meetings becasue I need to quit for real this time!! But will I ever get my sense of smell back?
