233622 tn?1279334905 flomax is great if you have touble with urine retention. It is approved for prostate problems,,,,I have not prostate, but it is also used in women with MS who have urinary problems.
Avatar n tn Does anyone here have detrusor sphincter dyssynergia or urinary retention and if so how are you treating it?
Avatar n tn He may not have been emptying his bladder even with the flomax and he may have developed further urinary retention. If he has taken any decongestants or antihistamines, they may have worked against the drug and, again, resulted in further emptying difficulties. Call the urologist to discuss it. He probably will need to be seen. S.A.Liroff, M.D. "This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone has had urinary issues with their early stage MS. for instance I don't feel my full bladderany times. Until its too late!
Avatar f tn Flomax will help urinary flow, also might want to get a multi parametric MRI of the prostate which can be very helpful.
Avatar n tn Age 64, with flomax I experience no pleasure with my orgasms. Is this because of the retrograd ejac. or is it a side effect of the medication? I may need to have surgery to improve my urinary flow, but retrograde ejac is a common outcome of these surgeries, and I need to know if I am at risk for losing my orgasm pleasure . I do see an occasional posting of men who have lost their pleasure after these surgeries, with no recourse.
Avatar m tn 32 year old healthy male. Have had on and off urinary frequency for about 7 or 8 years now. Been to 3 different urologists, none wanted to get invasive bc no infection, DRE showed OK, no blood...basically no signs of anything wrong. But I made these appointments for a reason. The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar f tn My doc has scheduled another cystoscopy with bladder wash. I researched this and found that what he's looking for is possible bladder cancer. I have a h/o urine retention w/hypotonic bladder, neurogenic bladder, and had an interstim implant in March. F/up appt in June (3mos) went well, no problems, despite his comment that "if its not broken, don't fix it" with regard to keeping me on Flomax. Yet, a mere 2.
Avatar m tn ve had no fever or swelling of lymph nodes but do feel a sore throat often. (Anxiety?) as for the urinary retention issue... It started about a week and a half ago as it was hard to pee, then got a little better a few days later but still had to push but flow was better. Now it's back where it's very difficult to pee on my own and even when I push. Can't afford the ER. What to do?
Avatar f tn My neurologist recently put me on a Detrol LA for a week, then had me add Flomax. I noticed a slight improvement with the Detrol, but when I added the Flomax things urinary got dramatically better. But, shortly after starting the Flomax, I discovered that I did not produce any ejaculate! Not that sex is a big thing with me (staying upright while standing takes precidence), but it is still an important part of life (if only rarely).
Avatar f tn Has antone had a cysto done for urinary retention? I had a uti 3 weeks ago (which has since healed) but ever since I've had retention anywhere from 50-200cc post void. the urologist suggested a cysto I'm concerned that the irritation from surgery would make things worse. Does anyone have any insight?
Avatar m tn Possibilities that may need to be considered include medication side effect, psychological issues such as anxiety, autonomic or hormonal/ endocrine imbalance, neuro-muscular issues etc. There is no specific time limit before urinary retention becomes an emergency; it usually depends on the amount of urine and more commonly on the severity of symptoms.
Avatar m tn Hi, my wife have a difficulty in urinating (Urinary retention). This happens only when she doesn't drink enough water especially during weekend or any off schedules days. She also experience the pain in the back where kidneys are located.Once she starts drinking water, problem resolves in couple of hours. I want to know that how serious is this a problem ? What is the reason and treatments ? Thank you !
1831849 tn?1383228392 I saw my urologist he other day and she said that she now like Rapaflo (slidosin) more than Flomax (tamsulosin) for urinary hesitancy. Both are designed to address benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). I know the primary audience is men, but there are women who take tamsulosin for urinary hesitancy. I was taking the max dose of tamsulosin, .8mg/day. I'm now taking 8mg Rapaflo/day. I'm told that it will take 4-5 days to see the full benefit if Rapaflo and I'm now on day 3.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar n tn About a week ago, I started experiencing frequent urination with urgency and waking at night to urinate. I visited my family doctor who did a simple test for blood in the urine, which was positive. He diagnosed prostatitis and prescribed 2 weeks of cipro. I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone.
Avatar f tn Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Sometimes men continue to have problems and may be candidates for surgical intervention to improve symptoms. Frequently, larger prostates can elevate PSA and lead to biopsy. While there is the possibility that your biopsy will yield cancer, it is likely that the increase in PSA is due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Avatar f tn My grandfather was operated for bph for which TURP was done and was catheterised for 21 days, now his catheter was removed but he developed urinary retention and catheterised again is there any way his catheter can be removed and he can urinate normally, his age is 81yrs?
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I have urinary retention and I take Neurotin (gabapentin). I have never connected the two but Lulu advice is absolutely correct about telling your doctor about this new symptom.
