Avatar f tn My 24 year old daughter was just diagnosed with Grave's Disease. The doctor was going to give her Tapazole until he found out she was allergic to sulpha. But I looked it up and it says people who are allergic to sulpha can safely take Tapazole. It's all in the way the chain of chemicals are structured. It says the chain contains sulfur dioxide and nitrogen attached to a benzene ring.

Sulfa drugs can cause allergies and hypersensitivity reactions, one particular one is steven johnson’s where you can get reddish purple rashes all over the body. Neurological complications known are dizziness, hallucinations etc. Wishing you all the best.
Avatar f tn I would say that it potentially could be caused by the sulfa medication. Sulfa drugs have an effect on every body system. If it continues, call the doctor that prescribed to make sure he/she doesn't want to see you.
Avatar f tn The pharmacist had stated that Diamox is a level 2 derivative of Sulfa and that the chance of an allergic reaction is there but small. My big concern is that I was diagnosed with a Sulfa allergy as a child when a Sulfa Based Opthalmic Ointment was used to treat an eye infection and I broke out in hives after using the drug. My daughter used Sulfa Antibiotics to treat a UTI and over the course of a week her face swelled up.
Avatar m tn during that first examination, there was no blood or discharge, just the constant urge to pee but not that much,i got a rectal examination.urine culture came back negative, they put me on sulfa 2X a day and tamusolin1x a day for 14days,the syptoms ceased but i felt it wasnt working.so after i finished the two weeks i went back cause it was the same deal.the doctor gaveme a 2nd rectal examination and a prostate massag(forgot to mention i already got one)and he askedme to void after the massage.
Avatar f tn Hello, All the symptoms that your daughter is having are clearly a sign of doxycycline allergy.Doxycycline is not related to amoxicillin and sulfa drugs as it belongs to a different category of drugs(tetracyclines).Side effects of doxycycline are headache, dizziness, blurred vision, body aches, flu symptoms, skin rashes, chest tightness, respiratory difficulty, nausea, vomiting etc.
Avatar f tn About 3 months back i had a kidney infection, they put me on sulfa base medicine and i discovered i was allergic to the sulfa and had a drug.reaction toit. They had given me a steroid shot and steroid pills to continue taking for about 8-10 days. Along with a antihistamine. They worked and rash was cleared up. The same rash appeared about 2 weeks later again i went to the doctor and they did the same routine (steroid and antihistamine). Cleared up again.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.

Avatar n tn I am almost finished with that course and have sulfa ready to go if that does not work. I almost stopped taking metro and started sulfa however practitioner advised to keep taking metro even though it is not really working. I took one sulfa along with metro and symptoms kind of went away. but I am waiting to finish metro to start sulfa fully. I hate pills, antibiotics but I will take anything at this point.
Avatar f tn Everyone should read those monoliths - not only if you have allergies, but to get dosing instructions, drug interactions and all those other important tidbits of information. I just started cipro, and would not have known the mass qty of water I am supposed to drink if it hadn't been for that sheet.
Avatar f tn Are you talking about the antibiotic eye ointment? I refused them for my baby, and while they weren't thrilled it wasn't really an issue. I was 100% sure i didn't have any studs. I wrote it in my birth plan and reminded the nurses, and they just documented that I refused them.
Avatar f tn m passed out from benadryl. Please help me understand this, is it all connected to the sulfa? And what else can I be doing about it? Even if I had insurance, I couldn't afford to see an allergist. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar n tn There are many pain medications without any codeine in them. I think it may be that sulfa is present in a lot of medications that come in pill form, and that's causing your dilemma? Allergies can be such a pain sometimes.....Maybe your medication taken in liquid form would not cause you any problems. good luck..
Avatar f tn I just wanted to mention that since you took bacterim (sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim) which is a sulfa drug and clindamycin is a different class of drugs. Sulfa drugs are known to cause allergies in many people. It was probably that drug but could be both. So be careful to not use any sulfa drugs or clinidamycin.
Avatar n tn I visited my doctor and urinalysis did not show any infection but given Sulfa( antibiotic) for urination frequency and a cream for yeast inflection. The red bumps/spots come and go. Just wondering what it could be....appreciate any feedback.
Avatar f tn A sulfite reaction is different from a sulfonamide allergy (a reaction to sulfa drugs) because sulfites and sulfonamides are entirely different chemicals and have unrelated mechanisms of reaction. A person sensitive to sulfites is no more likely to be allergic to sulfonamides than any other individual and vice versa. " http://www.itmonline.org/arts/sulfa.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar m tn She had lost over 20 lbs. Now she is on Lasix since Nov and having same symptoms. She is also allergic to sulfa.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
