7980557 tn?1395954094 Hello I quit dance when I was about nine and I recently started doing it again. I also started stretching to improve my flexibility. I've improved a lot and can now do the splits however I recently strained my right leg muscles, especially in the thigh. It's not getting any better and I am getting stiffer and less flexible as it is too painful to stretch. Is there any way I could stretch again soon and make the muscle loosen again?
Avatar f tn Hamstring stretch can help maintain flexibility in your hamstrings as well as reduce any pain that may occur as the result of high hamstring tendinopathy. Position your affected leg on a couch or bench fully extended. Your heel should be flat on the bench with your toes facing the ceiling. Sit straight up. Allow your unaffected leg to hang over the edge of the bench with your foot touching the ground. Slowly lean forward at your waist while maintaining a straight back. Reach for your toes.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
Avatar n tn Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings. Maintain each stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. Perform your flexibility exercises every day.
Avatar n tn However whenever I run for sustained periods of time my hamstrings/ thighs feel very tight and my left hamstrings feels like it is about to tear. I cannot sprint much anymore, and my body has really gotten worse over the last 5/6 months. For a couple of days after running I get pains in my lower back, hips, thighs and hamstrings. A couple of months ago I could sprint/ run for sustained periods but would experience pain for a couple of days afterwards. Can you advise what I should do.
Avatar f tn The past few weeks and especially the past week, my spasticity issues seem to have increased quite a bit. My legs have been so TIGHT the past few days. I swear I must look like tin man when I walk. The are just so stiff! My calf muscles are really hard and I have constant twitching (best word I can think of) in my thighs. My quads & hamstrings are pretty tight too. Yesterday and today were a bit better. Night time is still pretty rough, but I'm kind of used to that.
Avatar m tn I believe it is in part due to patellar mistracking. I have been working on flexibility in my hamstrings and quads, as well as strengthening my VMO, since it is weaker than the outer quad muscles. I have been doing wall sits to strengthen my VMO, since squats are too painful and leg extensions agrivate the condition. However, these excersizes seem to do little to help with the pain, even though I have been doing them for at least 6 months now.
Avatar f tn Stretch all the muscles that work at your various joints, not just the ones that feel tight. An example, if you stretch your hamstrings, make sure to also stretch your quadriceps and gluteal muscles, and your inner and outer thighs. Stretching is most effective when you hold your muscle at its longest length for 15 seconds to one minute or longer. Relax into your stretch, and do not bounce. Yoga is an effective practice for maximally stretching the muscles throughout your body.
Avatar f tn Has anyone got any quick exercises I would be able to do for before school?
Avatar n tn ---Lower crossed syndrome, piriformis syndrome, etc etc---- these syndromes are all based on one thing--- loose and weak muscle groups fighting against short and tight ones. tight hamstrings are notorious for causing of low back, butt and even leg pain. As are tight quadratus muscles. Try heating your sore muscles, then laying on a baseball on the spots that hurt the most--- Keep the ball on the spot for 3 minutes minimum-- then move it around bit by bit till the entire area is covered.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar m tn I went to a doctor and was told it is not Sciatica, and that it is a muscle issue and that stretching therapy to improve my flexibility in my hamstrings, and strengthin my core will help rectify the problem. They also said that poor posture for the 47 years of my life is a contributing factor. Can anybody shed some light on this and some possible remedies?
Avatar m tn Extremely tight hamstrings, extremely tight muscles in general (stretching/ yoga feels like torture) Treatments: Surgery administer paravertebral block, peripheral nerve block, intra-articular shoulder injections, platelet rich plasma Dry needling Osteopathy manipulations Physical therapy Stretching Current symptoms: Current triggers: Working out at the gym (doing v light exercises) Using handphone while seated in toilet or first thing in the morning Forced stretching (e.g.
Avatar m tn MRIs really don't tell you much about muscles -- it's really more about soft tissues that don't show up on X-rays (bones show up well on digital X-rays). In your case, most likely there's something in the way you're moving that's not going well -- such as tight hips, lack of mobility in the joints, and the like. There also might be some hydration or nutrition problems, which would explain the hamstring problems.
Avatar f tn My pt has told me he thinks my lack of estension which is about 15 degrees is due to my tight hamstrings and soft tissue problems(tendonitis), but my dr. wants to try a manipulation then cast me to get my extension back. I've been doing some research on the M.U.A. and it seeems like everyone has had flexion problems after tkr not extension from meniscus and tendon problems. I got a 2nd opinion and the dr. wanted to do a posterior capsular release which is even more invasive.
Panda At age 61, I have bladder problems and after several surgeries, I can only lift 25 lbs and movement (when exercising) is limited. Do you have any suggestions on what types of exercises I can do - especially for the upper arms (they need to be firmed up)! Can't do alot of jumping around - due to leakage!
Avatar m tn Hi. That is hard to say since all sorts of words are used by medical professionals. He could have been talking about locations in medical terms like lumbar, thoracic, cervical, sacral which all refer to areas of the back and anatomy where your pain may originate and radiate to. Were they words like that? Or was he saying the why of the pain like herniated disc, nerve impingement, arthritis, gerd, issues with ligaments, structural problems?
Avatar f tn I take Baclofen for my spasticity. I have it in my legs. Mine does make my legs feel tight and stiff. It also makes my hamstrings feel really tight or almost like someone is pulling on them or something, and sometimes I'll get a burning pain. The muscles are so tight, it feels like I need to stretch out my leg. I've never had it in my shoulders, though, so I don't know.
Avatar f tn I am starting to wonder if the pain in my knee is due to tight hamstrings caused by my scoliosis and if it was never a problem until now because I had never sat in a chair for extended periods of time until the last few years. I'm wondering if this time I should skip the Ortho and just go to see a Chiropractor instead.
798555 tn?1292787551 I am thinking about acupuncture to loosen a tight left hamstring and calf muscle. Is this possible? When they tighten up so does my left foot. Tired of stretching my hamstrings every 1/2 hour - only short relief. Believe me , I've tried everything but acupuncture. Lots of water - no help. Continuous stretching - its endless. I do trigger point release on it with a Therea Cane, only helps temporary. Chiros and PT (had physical therapy 3 different places) don't seem to help with this.
Avatar f tn s say my water breaks in March.
Avatar n tn We also get low back pain when our hamstrings are tight. Try stretch too.
Avatar f tn It will cause more pain. Maybe work on some stretches and exercises for the hamstrings and your sides to help ease the nerve too.
Avatar m tn Think alignment and technique. Ask your doctor or physical therapist about flexibility and strength exercises to optimize your technique for jumping, running and pivoting — and to help the patella track properly in its groove. Especially important is exercise for your outer hip muscles to prevent your knee from caving inward when you squat, land from a jump, or step down from a step. Lose excess pounds. If you're overweight, losing the extra weight relieves stress on your knees. Warm up.
Avatar m tn My hamstrings are incredibly weak and I have no strength in my lower calves. They are jutting up into my back and it has become very painful. When I walk, I am hunched over, and it has become rather difficult to stay mobile. I have been trying to do exercises and stretches to compensate, but it seems to no avail. I have been to several doctors for this matter (not a sports physician yet, because they turned me away due to lack of insurance).
