Common Questions and Answers about Flexeril for leg cramps

Avatar f tn I have severe back pain to the point I wake up sleeping on my back because I esentially get 'stuck' it feels like its out of joint at times. Also severe leg cramps most of the time I can't sit stand or lay without discomfort to the point I have trouble sleeping at all. Is flexeril harmful to my baby at 29 weeks?? I was thinking of taking a half pill. Not for regular use, just in extreme pain.
1972798 tn?1355552867 So I have been awake since 145 (10 hours now) this morning due to leg cramps which started last night that were so persistant nothing would take them away.. Long story short after taking baths, using a heating pad, massaging, whining, taking tylonol and stretching with nothing even touch the pain I ended up in ER for a leg ultrasound to rule out blood clot and blood work to be sure calcium and potassium were ok.

Avatar f tn About 10 months ago, I started experiencing terrible muscle cramps in my right leg and toes on both feet. I have seen a neurologist and tests indicate that I have muscle damage in both legs. My legs are so weak, that it is hard to do much walking without getting absolutely exhausted. I have had elevated muscle enzymes for many months now, have been tested for various autoimmune diseases, but all tests come back negative. The doctors seem to be puzzled as to what is going on.

417971 tn?1237146307 Maybe another drop soon, I'll wait it out a few more days and then do it again. My kids are gone for spring break, but not long enough for me to just go cold turkey....I want this over!!
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn Now I am going cold turkey and all I have is some vitamins, and flexeril. The ortho doc put in Ultram for me. Should I take it. Will it help me with the w/ds. Bottom line - my reg. doc was not in. New doc wanted to be a **** and said no meds. Go cold turkey and deal with it. I asked if there were any non-narcotic meds to take (clonidine ect.), he said nope. Anybody have any Idea's. I need them. My wife understands how bad this is going to suck for me now.
Avatar m tn In my personal experience, muscle relaxants are not very effective for acute leg cramps or rls -- they are much more effective for sustained muscle tension, spasm and limitation of movement. It depnds on the cause of the leg cramps, but most often mineral supplements are the most effective - calcium, magnesium and potassium. A banana (potassium source) at bedtime can work wonders! RLS (restless leg syndrome) is a different matter.
Avatar m tn I just live with it and appreciate the moments not cramped -- I get the feet/toe, leg and hand cramps like when you cramp from swimming. Motrin OTC helps some but honestly not enough to bother taking it. I really had no idea what coming off a ton of meds would be like -- wish I had some clue. Hydro is viocodin or percocets (?) - it should be fairly manageable. I would probably taper over a week and then go CT but that is ME.
Avatar n tn For about three months now my left leg has been jumping; not a tremor, kind of like a jerking/involuntary movement. I am unable to control this movement. Toes do not draw up or my feet are not effected. Sometimes the jumping will last all day and some days it will not do it a all. Sometimes it will only jump once or twice a day. When my leg is not jumping, it is painful. Yesterday, my right leg started feeling like it wanted to jump or like there was pressure on it. Never jumped though.
5447621 tn?1368112421 Then pm dr lowered percocet and gabapentin dosages to less than half of what I had been on for 3 months..there went the withdrawal again...the leg cramps in left leg(nerve damage from spinal cyst has left me with no feeling in left leg,but have restless leg, stabbing hot pain in my left foot) all started 10fold..pm dr then upped gabapentin back to original post op dose and fentanyl 25 mcg every 3 days. I am thinking I am going to be in hell withdrawing.

Avatar f tn ) Willy you are right I should stop all but so scared of the leg cramps, I have 2 young children and when those creepy crawly leg cramps happen I loose it so confused don't know what to do, but all your advice has been so great I am going to use it and CONGRATS!!! on day 91!!!
Avatar m tn I am glad to hear the stretching and strengthening excercises are working for you. If the leg cramps keep up,discuss it with your dr,he can give you something for muscle spasms which helps...my dr gave me flexeril. I only took it at night before bed because that is when it seemed its worse. Keep up with the excercises, and if you see no change,or a relapse,be sure to tall your dr. In the beginning it was the sciatica that let me know something was wrong,I really had no back pain...
Avatar n tn doctor has no clue so now sending me to a rheumotologist.they have me on 15mg percocet and flexeril for pain but not working.can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn If you're not among those for whom heat is a catalyst for worsening symptoms, you might consider some kind of gentle warmth, such as a hot water bottle or a heating pad. A pain reliever might help, too, if you can tolerate any of those.
Avatar f tn I have Flexeril while I'm in limbo and that helps for sure. It's just a weird feeling. Like I'm subconsciously tightening those muscles, I "manually" relax them, then they tighten again. I have bladder problems too, which I'm assuming are the same area but I can't tell that to shut up. Has anyone experienced this? It's very odd. Like there's someone else I'm now forced to share my body with. I have other symptoms but this one I would like to understand.
Avatar m tn I had/have fatigue, exercise intolerance, muscle spasms daily, and muscle cramps that would wake me up in the middle of the night in random places. These cramps were similar to getting a charley horse, but in my neck, bicep, traps, or hip/thigh. That muscle would be sore or "pulled" feeling all the next day. I also was having arthritic symptoms in both hands, feet joints, and knees. They tested me for gout and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) but both tests came up negative.
Avatar n tn Just another note, I have never been one to take meds on a daily basis and have never been on any. Now they want me to take daypro, neurontin, celebrex, flexeril, lortab 7.5 for pain. I have always had a high pain tolerance and have dealth with my pain as best I could. I will take 1/2 lortab when needed, flexeril 1/2 (they make me loopy) if needed.
338416 tn?1420049302 I've been on Flexaril and Baclofen, and at least for me, the Baclofen is soooooooo much better for spasticity. (Plus the Flexeril makes me feel sick) Now, I can't even imagine going without the Baclofen. A couple times I tried to ween myself off to see if I still had the spasticity, and before I got down to zero, I could already feel the severe pain in my leg again.
Avatar m tn soma, flexeril, naproxen, ibuprofen, elmiron, zyrtec, sudafed. I do smoke and have for 22 years.
Avatar f tn Rosemary, I was in the same boat for several years with very severe leg cramps. The only thing that helped me was a prescription for flexeril, a muscle relaxer that blocks nerve impulses. The generic is cyclobenzaprine. I take 10 mgs. before bed, and it's very effective. Good luck!
