689528 tn?1364135841 Animal studies show possible harmful effects, and there is little information in humans. Flaxseed may stimulate menstruation or have other hormonal effects and could be harmful to pregnancy." I think it might be best to talk to your doctor about this particular one and it may be best to err on the side of caution and stop taking it.
Avatar m tn Also, you should never start a supplement without consulting your doctor first as even supplements can have side effects and interact with other meds. Ever since flaxseed oil hit the nutritional supplement market in the mid-80s, it's been promoted as a cure-all for dozens of diseases and conditions. But, for the most part, those “health claims” are unsubstantiated and, at best, shaky. Plus, there are serious side effects of flax seed oil.
Avatar m tn One very preliminary study hints that flaxseed oil may enhance the effects of conventional treatments for bipolar disorder when combined with conventional medications. But, another study did not find flaxseed oil to be beneficial for treating bipolar disorder in children. It has been suggested that flaxseed oil may have anticancer effects due to its ALA and lignan content.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Thank you for writing to us here, though I am sorry that you are struggling with side effects from the result of breast cancer medication. I am also a breast cancer survivor, however as I am triple negative, the hormonal drugs are not effective for me so unfortunately I cant speak from experience. However, that doesn't mean that I cant find out some interesting information for you in relation to libido and Arimidex.
Avatar f tn The most common side effects are hot flashes and vaginal discharge. Some women experience irregular menstrual periods, headaches, fatigue, nausea and/or vomiting, vaginal dryness or itching, irritation of the skin around the vagina, and skin rash. As with menopause, not all women who take tamoxifen have these symptoms. Men who take tamoxifen may experience headaches, nausea and/or vomiting, skin rash, impotence, or a decrease in sexual interest.
Avatar m tn but the problem for me is it seems i have either a hypersensitivity in taking either one and develop side effects after a while where i seem to get headaches and an uncomfortable feeling in my throat... It's really a shame because the benefit are wonderful but the side effects are very annoying, to say the least...
Avatar f tn Most women have no lasting side effects from an epidural. Only about 2-3% of women have lasting side effects such as headaches and even less likely partial paralysis. The most common side effect of an epidural is a drop in moms BP. This can sometimes reduce fetal heart rate but usually isn't enough to cause any harm to mom or baby. If you go in and there are any concerns with baby's heart rate they may not allow an epidural at all.
Avatar f tn Headache, mood changes, abdominal pain, loss of libido, and vaginal dryness may be seen in few women using the implant. Few women may also have weight gain as one of its side effects. Few women may also develop ovarian cysts while on nexplanon. It is best to discuss the risks and benefits of any birth control method before starting to use it. It is best to have a frank discussion with your gynecologist about these side effects.
Avatar n tn The Budwig diet is mainly composed of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with restrictions on eating animal meats, butter and sugars. Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.
Avatar f tn I asked my doctor (RE) about taking 81 mg of baby aspirin to encourage blood flow to the uterus but she said the effects are not proven and therefore she does not use it in her practice. I'd still like to try it, however..particularly because my menses was especially "clotty" this month (sorry tmi!). But I also take flaxseed oil and I want to make sure that taking both of these won't be an issue. I'm on my 4th round of clomid 100 mgs, days 3-7 with progesterone supps.
Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.
Avatar f tn The author speculated that the lignans in flaxseed are a major component of its anti-cancer effects and that the lack of lignans in most brands of flaxseed oil may explain why flaxseed oil is not beneficial. Until we know more about the risk flaxseed oil appears to present, I recommend that men avoid it, or at least stick to brands that put the lignans back in. Flaxseeds, however, present no danger to men.
Avatar n tn t want to be on prednisone long term due to side effects. Of course, prescription arthritis meds tend to be very hard on the stomach and can cause serious side effects as well. You might ask the neurologist about an MRI. She might try more natural steps, in addition to the physical therapy, such as Sam-E, OTC (naturemade brand has had scientific studies), which is supposed to be good for joint health.
Avatar f tn I have a fruit smoothie with flaxseed every day. Flaxseed is high in omega-3 and fiber, which both are great for pregnant women. Also up your water intake. My dr told me that normally drink 64 oz of water, but with pregnant women it should be almost double.
486867 tn?1307139011 Do men take the same dosage as women? Women rx is usually 100mg for 5 days each cycle. If men take it longer than women, I imagine the s/e would be more severe.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.

Avatar f tn I wanted to know from women in their fifties and sixties if there have been any long term effects from having one removed. Like for instance early osteoporosis or early menopause. Things that the doctors might not of thought of on their own. I would also like to hear from women that haven't had any issues. Thank you so much and God Bless!

Avatar f tn If you go to chemocare.com you can read all the side effects of Tamoxifen. What you mention are all listed there. The weight gain no doubt is due to fluid retention which is one of the side effects. You might discuss changing drugs with your Oncologist as there are others available but keep in mind that they all have similar side effecfts even though you mjight not experience them to the same degree. Regards .....
Avatar n tn Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
Avatar n tn but I wouls honestly consider taking your daughter off the Accutane. The side effects can be so horrible and are now related to a lot of gastrointestinal issues long term. My husband is a prime example...never had an upset stomach in his life and now all of a sudden he can't eat anything without tummy trouble and he's only 24. There are other options and unless absolutly NOTHING else has worked it is the last resort.
451366 tn?1211304932 I have fibro, but I refuse to use it because weight gain is also a big side effect, which is the last thing I need. But some women with fibro and depression say it is a miracle drug.

Avatar f tn My doctor wants me to start on Abilify but I declined after I read the side effects. Has anyone had any uncontrolled movements, weight gain, tardive dyskinesia, etc. with this medication. If so, please let me know. I really need a medication to replace the ones I went off of but my doctor is giving me no other choices. I'm absolutely scared to death about the side effects of this medication. Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated.
