Common Questions and Answers about Flagyl and levaquin for diverticulitis

levaquin

187666 tn?1331173345 Only when I was in the hospital and put on IV meds did the inflamation go down enough for the surgery. I had a PICC line for awhile and would infuse Flagyl and Levaquin. Oh and the bitter taste in the mouth, definately Flagyl...makes drinking water hard as it tastes weird....Take care and God Bless.
Avatar n tn cipro, flagyl , levaquin to name the ones I was on the most. Nothing seemed to help as it keep coming back. I ended up in the hospital over the holidays and was advised to have an elective colon resection due to all of the scar tissue that had formed and the fact that my colon, in the sigmoid area, was starting to stricture( close up). I had it over 3 months ago and am recovering, although slower than I hoped.....lol...I am a very impatient patient.
Avatar f tn I have had a total of 10 diverticulitis attacks since 2006, of which 7 have been in the last 2 years, and 3 in the last month an a half. I had 10 days of Flagyl and Levaquin beginning March 15, then 10 days beginning April 15, and I'm starting a 14 day dose today. My sed rate was 80 but WBC is normal. Scans in March and April showed mild diverticulitis. Is this normal to continue to have to take these anti biotics? It seems to me that they must not be working for my infection.
Avatar m tn Thinking it could be diverticulitis, the gastroenterologist has me on first was Levaquin then on Cipro and flagyl and a clear diet for two days. All that did was make me extremely hungry although the left quadrant pain did subside a little. Starting back up with low fiber diet has started the left pain again. I have tried Hyoscamin and that helped a little. So far I am still in pain and discomfort and am getting extremely frustrated. Any suggestions or comments.
Avatar f tn I filled the prescription but before I could start taking it, I had another diverticulitis attack. I am currently taking flagyl and levaquin for the diverticulitis. I am also on omeprazole daily. My question is how do I manage these two conditions when one requires a high fiber diet and the other a low fiber.
Avatar n tn Flagyl, Cipro, Levaquin were the most frequent. I was hospitalized, for 5 days, over the holidays, and that is when I both met my surgeon and made the decision to do the surgery. They took out about 7 inches. Deciding factor was the fact that if the colon were to rupture, as the doc put it, the results could be "catastrophic".
Avatar m tn About 7 months ago I was diagnosed with my first ( of 6 ) attacks of diverticulitis. They would put me on the antibiotics( cipro, flagyl, levaquin) but it would keep coming back. I had pain in the lower left side. Several ct scans later, my GI started talking about surgery as I had diverticulitis that was not responding. Christmas Eve I ended up in the hospital for 5 days.
Avatar n tn Hi guys Just wanted to give an update... Called the Dr. and was put back on Cipro and Flagyl for 14 days. The pain continued to increase in the LLQ like a sharp knife. Dr. said that is exactly where the inflammation is. Now have to do a colonoscopy. But the side affects (severe D) from the Flagyl are so bad that I cannot go to work. Its actually worse than the sharp pain from the inflammation.
Avatar f tn I am concerned that this will be my life and am wondering if I should consider surgery. I am reading that cipro and flagyl will stop working. This is the third time I have taken it as I had to take it twice the first time.
Avatar n tn A colonoscopy is how most diverticulitis is discovered, and yes it is safe.
Avatar m tn Patients with diverticulitis will usually have elevated WBC, although patients with early and/or mild diverticulitis may have a normal WBC count. This result may also be blunted in the elderly or immunocompromised.
Avatar m tn I had levaquin for three separate infections at the same time -- had no problems other than complete and utter exhaustion -- hope you all feel better Jeanne
Avatar m tn Other risks he said were not valid with no apparent viral sores on mouth of partner. Took the Flagyl and 4 days of Levaquin and resumed contact with normal monogomous partner. Partner later developed what GYN called a bladder infection with horrible back pains and frequent urination / urgency. She rcvd, Nitrofuran mono 100mg and took several days...did not work. Went to PCP and he gave her 6 days of Levaquin 500 mg and 5 days of Flagyl 250 mg 3 per day. That seemed to clear her up.
Avatar f tn Then June of 2017, I had become constipated and I went to my Family Doctor and she stated my diverticulosis was acting up, so she gave me prescriptions of, Cipro and Flagyl. I took them for 4 days and my bowels seemed fine..but a few days later..I developed severe vomiting and diarrhea with cold sweats..it lasted 3 hours.I felt a little better next day, but queasy.. Two days later, I was vomiting..could not hold anything down. My daughter took me to ER.
Avatar n tn He now just got a diverticulitis attack 3 weeks ago and was put on Cipro/Flagyl. Now today woke up and had some tenderness. He has been on a vegan diet without the nuts, seeds, etc and eating all good things. Taking fiber and probiotics. So his gastro told him to wait a couple of days as it may go away. My son made an appt with his surgeon for next week, just in case. My question is, if sigmoid gone, can they just cut out small areas only? Not sure where the infection was on the CT.
Avatar n tn My husband has been diagnosed with diverticulitis and is being treated with Flagyl and Cipro. He now has a fever and terrible stomach pain and a hives like rash on his face and a slight fever. He has had three doses and I am wondering what to do.
Avatar n tn I was sent home with a prescription for Flagyl and Cipro. I followed up with my primary doctor who basically just told me what the disease was, that I need to eat more fiber, stay away from seeds and to come back if I have another flair-up. I'm 41, male, 5'10" 159lbs and in good shape.
Avatar n tn Perhaps you could try drinking Keffir - its a live culture yogourt drink that helps to re-establish the normal bacteria in your gut. I have been off and on flagyl, levaquin, bactrim, and cipro for the last 14 weeks and am having bowel resection surgery for diverticulitis tomorrow. The Keffir really helped me - tastes kind of weird but it works . You can also eat any kind of yogourt that contains live culture - DanActive or Activia.
Avatar f tn But my stomach pain was very stubborn and I got mild heartburn from it. After treatments with a PrevPac for h.pylori and Xifaxin for parasites, I felt better, but the ache & chronic tenderness still held me back. I switched to Avelox and the stomach pain reduced quickly, so I do believe Rifampin was making it worse. About 2 weeks into Avelox I had some cramping in my left Achilles heel, so they switched me to Levaquin.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to flagyl and most antibiotics. I also developed C-diff in 2008 from antibiotics. Is it appropriate to consider a second colon resection?
Avatar n tn I've heard you can have this with fluoroquinolines like levaquin in rare cases- I'm taking levaquin now and seem ok but it seems these drugs can cause tendon ruptures
Avatar n tn Your left side pain could be "DIVERTICULITIS" and although Flagyl and Cipro will help with the pain, I suggest you get a colonoscopy to rule out anything else. Good luck!
Avatar m tn CT Scan results were negative for everything. I also had a blood test done to check for Crohn's, IBS, etc., which was also negative, along with all my other blood and stool tests. I did a pill cam procedure which showed I have ulcers through my intestinal tract. It took a year, but all my doctors finally agree with me that Levaquin did something to me. Now the question is still what?
Avatar f tn (UTIs are well known to make biofilms, resulting in stubborn and relapsing infections.) Levaquin is often good for treating Bartonella. I felt noticeably better on it, but then developed tendon pain and had to stop. These drugs now have a black box warning due to their tendency to damage tendons. Makes sense to me... biofilms contain collagen, which helps camoflauge the bugs from the immune system.
Avatar n tn I had diverticulitis and have been on meds for four days and see little and/or no improvement Bowel Movements are thin and only take place with the help of colase. My questions are: 1. How long does this go below I return to the dr.? 2. I back pain common with this? 3. My lower left side feels hard and tight and it is swollen and extended. Is this common with Diverticulitis?
Avatar n tn I have had back pain that feels like a kidney infection for a year. I had been tested for it and even kidney stones and was neg. I am so relieved that this may be the answer that I have been searching for, for 2 yrs. I am also frustrated that it wasn't found sooner. I am 42, good weight and eat healthy so I guess that I dont fit the profile. I dont know. I eat healthy and watch everything that I eat because of the issues I have. I already eat a high fiber diet.
