Most of the calculators online assume you're over 20. I agree totally with Red -- weight alone doesn't say much about health or fitness.
Business woman2 Do you have a community fitness center around you that might have water aerobics (or something similar)? The water helps a lot since it takes the pressure off your joints. You might also look into workouts designed for the elderly (ie you can do them sitting in a chair). I know there's a program on PBS, but I don't know when it's on. Eating healthy foods is another good starting point.

I´ve been running for 16 years, but have in the last year been paying more attention to my heart rates. I´m always running at a pace of about 6.5 - 7mi/hour. I usually run for about 45 to 50 min, 6 to 7 days a week.

However, in this last month, I have hit the scales at 134! I have gained muscle in my legs and arms, but my stomach - which was never flatflat but always made me proud - is a jiggly mess now. Not only am I still steadily gaining a pound or two a month, but I feel like garbage. I'm exhausted, ache all over and seem, despite exercise, to be losing muscle. I've got this big ugly belly that I've never had before. I've read all of the stupid online stuff about dieting. Seems you are either eating too much or too little. Not helpful.

Go find a calorie intake calculator. see how many you need a day to maintain your current weight and then take 500 calories off. That way you can lose a lb a week. Also up your exercise and track it make sure to burn at least 500 a day. Counting calories eaten and burned are very effective.

I have been in a true deficit for two weeks now averaging enough calories to have at least lost 2lbs. I am a 30 yr old 5'5" female and started out at 163.4 then my period comes and have weighed anywhere from 165lbs-170lbs depending on what time I weigh? If it's morning then I weigh 165lbs if it is evening or late at night it's 170lbs.

What I've found the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance level (you can find a rough calculator online) that will tell you about how many calories you burn in an avg day. Subtract around 250 calories and you've found your ideal calorie amount! Keep in mind you should take exercise into account as well. You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week.

Since Curves is mainly to cure a slowed down metabolism, it would only be natural to find the older chaps there. I just assume it is better to simply exercise more to increase metabolism and then let the food intake follow whatever chunk of calories you have burnt. Let me know how it works for you guys. To determine the caloric intake to lose weight multiply your curent weight by 5 and subtract that amount from your daily energy requirement. After reaching this goal then you would determine how much physical activity would be necessary to maintain it.
Avatar m tn I can now leg-press 250 lbs pretty easily (started at 180), dead lift 120 lbs, and made a bunch of progress in other strength areas. I can run a 10-minute mile and run 2 miles in 25 minutes without stopping. For eating, I'm on a pretty boring eating cycle that surely cannot be more than 1800 calories per day. In the morning, I have 3-4 eggs + some sausage.

You had good advice from anacyde regarding niacin. I take it in addition to statins. It appears to have helped my HDL. Keep in mind, however, that many people receive no benefit from niacin. Regarding my HDL and LDL ratio, it has been poor since I have been measuring my cholesterol.

The more I exercised the worse my endurance became??? The gym regulars were baffled by this. My doctor ordered a pulmonary function test and a cardiac stress test. Everything looked good there. Avatar n tn If you RMR is 1250, you should be eating at least that much. Even the most basic BMI calculator will showe you this!!!Eating too few calories is probably causing you to burn muscle which would explain the 4% body fat increase. You are already doing 45 minutes of cardio so you should be burning fat/carbs based on your workout intensity. You don't need to eat so few cals. Long term weight loss doesn't work by depriving your body of nutrients. The link below is a basic BMI calculator.
