Avatar f tn does anyone know what can cause the reddish blue half moon on all of my fingers? they seem to be worse on my thumbs. thanks.
Avatar n tn Fingernails turn blue/purple because of a lack of oxygen. This can be cardiogenic or caused by anemia or certain circulatory diseases (Raynaud's).
Avatar n tn One and a half month ago, I overexercised (went running a lot more than I was used to) and when I finished, my fingernails were purple/blue. Since then, they have remained purple. A week after that I started developing many other symptoms which I'm quite sure have to do something with that. I went through several tests including EKG, echocardiogram, xray, spirometry, CT scan and blood work. All came back normal. My fingernails had never changed their colour before that incident.
Avatar n tn Yes. Your oxygen levels are declining. That is the reason for the blue fingernails. You can't see your lips, but they are probably blue too. The most likely etiology is anemia, secondary to a low hematocrit. There ain't enough little red blood cells around to carry the oxygen. Smoking, with the binding of the carbon monoxide, would make this mjuch worse. Another possibility is a cardiac etiology or vascular insufficiency. Not that likely for a runner.
Avatar n tn If the fingernails remain blue even after rubbing, then there may be an underlying disease. It can be a part of Raynaud’s phenomenon. Please consult a doctor and get this examined. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Half and hour after the exercise I noticed that my fingernails were blue and probably my lips were a little blue too. It lasted for some hours, but my fingernails never returned to their original colour. They are somewhat purple now. Only my thumb in my right hand gets very blue sometimes. This had never happened to me before that day. I never had any kind of respiratory problems.
687079 tn?1230948612 hi today my hands are cold and my fingernails have just the slightest tint of blue to them i am also weak (my thyroid is getting pretty low t4 ) but i get this weakness a lot i checked my bp and it was fine 120/74 heart rate is steady no pain or anything, my lips are not blue - i called the endo and she said low thyroid would not do this so not to worry, i was wondering if anyone else had this? i know we have a lot of symptoms that the docs do not recognize so.....

Avatar f tn I'm a 50 year old woman and my fingernails have begun to curl as they get longer?
Avatar n tn I really run much more than what I was used. When I finished, my fingernails were purple. Since then, they have stayed that way. A week after that, I started having many other symptoms (headaches, wooziness, etc). I was told by my doctors that it was raynauds, but now I have found out that raynaud causes attacks and then fingernails come back to normal. Mine are purple all the time, but occasionally my right thumb and left index turn very blue, although they return to purple when I press them.
347645 tn?1283220742 The natural history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is that it gets progressively worse and the worsening is accelerated by cigarette smoke. Your symptoms could be an indication that your COPD is worsening or that you are having an exacerbation, a temporary, acute worsening of symptoms, often reversible with medical treatment. The blue fingernails suggestion that your body is not getting enough oxygen and that could make it much harder to breathe.
Avatar f tn I'm a 34 yr. old female. In January, overnight, my lips turned white. I had a blood test and was told - no anemia; blood cells look good. Then a week later I noticed that my lips looked blue. Went to the dr. & was told oxygen 100% and had a test for methemoglobin which came back normal. I later went to a cardiologist who tested me for a hole in my heart with an ECHO w/ bubble contrast. The test was normal.

Avatar f tn I suffer from freezing hands and feet almost all the time regardless of whether or not i wear gloves/socks. Its also accompanied by blue/purple colouration of my feet, hands and fingernails. Im not sure if its Raynaud's or nerve degeneration as i have lost feeling in the extremities to the point i cant determine hot from cold and a general numbness and clumbsiness. I am worried that the condition might spread also.
Avatar f tn toes turn purple and are always cold. my hands are always cold, sometimes fingernails turn a blue colour. 2 toes were swollen for a week, and my right middle finger gets a burning sensation in the fingertip thats last 30 secs? ive been checked out from head to toe, but docs havent said anything!
Avatar n tn Well out of the blue she reached up and grabbed my mouth by wrapping her fingers inside my mouth and digging her fingernails inside my mouth under my gums. When I pulled her hand out she was gripping so hard she tore the skin from my gums and the area underneath. She had such a grip that her fingernail ripped of when I pulled her hand out. I was told by my Dr. to have a HIV test done now and again in 6 months. I was wondering what the possibility of exposure was from this kind of wound.

Avatar f tn ( :). I know all the symptoms, and I have some of them. But I usually do before my period. I am due tomorrow, but just figured I would try to test this morning since I was off work. Help needed!!!!
Avatar f tn Probably 3 hours later after I noticed my hands were very tingly in certain positions, I went to eat something and I noticed my fingernails were noticeably blue at the bottom. I know low blood sugar can give you anxiety so I started to freak out a little. Could this bout of abnormal poor circulation be due to low blood sugar, or strenuous activity with little to no energy? I had some rice cauliflower, 2 string cheese, and about 4 tbsp of honey and I feel somewhat better.
Avatar n tn In the winter she gets extremely cold hands and feet and her fingernails turn purple. She is not normally that cold to touch, as much as she feels cold herself. It actually causes pain. It leaves in the summer but in the winter its pretty bad, socks doesn't help, etc. She is only 21, so I was just wondering everyones take on it. She hasn't went to the doc yet...
Avatar f tn The nail polish thing is in case you have to have an emergency surgery (where they knock you out completely). They put an oxygen probe on your finger to monitor how much oxygen you're getting and the sensor can't read it accurately through fake nails or nail polish. Also your fingernails would turn blue if you're not getting enough oxygen, so they want to be able to see that.
Avatar m tn Now what? They hurt when you push on them, but I don't remember hitting them hard enough to cause this kind of bruise. I see my hepatologist for the big decision on when to treat and with what. I hope it's not still whether to treat, unless it is because someone else posted that another really good drug is getting FDA approval in August. Should I show them to him or call my regular doctor? Meanwhile, my fingernails are getting "wavy" and one is split down the middle.
Avatar f tn along with fast breathing and normal color but maybe another time he has blue/grey color around mouth and blue fingernails along with normal breathing. It just doesn't seem to make sense sometimes!!! I will be asking to go see a pediatric pulmonologist for a second opinion and discussing with them if it could also have a cardiac component.
Avatar f tn I feel like there is a huge weight on my chest. Oh and my oxygen level was normal. I also was wondering why the color in my fingernails is changing? They have gone to normal to a red/purple/blue half moon shape on the bottom. Hope someone can offer some suggestions. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Six months ago she began to have severe headaches followed by difficulty breathing, and chest discomfort. Her fingernails and toenails would turn blue and her hands and feet would be cold. She began to have muscle spasms which first started in her legs but recently her arm muscles have begun to spasm. We have been to seven different doctors and three emergency rooms but no one can find anything that could be causing these symptoms. Thursday she is scheduled to see a neurologist.
