Common Questions and Answers about Fingernail problems beau's lines

Avatar n tn Hello. I have a question about Beau's Lines, or horizontal lines on the nails. I understand that this is one of those conditions that there is a fair amount of confusion about, both on the internet and in the medical community, and that it is one of those "symptoms" that people probably more often imagine they have than they actually do have. Regardless, I wanted to set out my description, and if anyone has any insight to offer, it would be much appreciated.
Avatar m tn I don't think the Beau's Lines have any connection with the low bp and dizziness. I would recommend getting the tilt table test done. You had mentioned you run 2 miles 5 days/week. I would connect this more with the Beau's Lines not resolving long after your pregnancy. I have had them myself; used to run quite alot. I believe it comes from the friction between your toes and the shoes while running. You can always have a Podiatrist assess the toenails.
Avatar f tn Beau's lines can be caused by a number of things, from a common cold, to systemic illnesses, and yes, beta blockers. During the five or six years that I've taken the same beta blocker at different strengths, I have occasionally experienced a Beau's line in one or two fingernails. Wikipedia.org has a good write up on Beau's lines.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your help! About toenail ridges and psoriasis, I have ridges solely on my toenails and no desquamation whatsoever present as far as I noticed.
Avatar n tn I am 45 years old and a female. For over 7 years I have had an off and on dull pain on my left side. It mostly hurt when I moved. It felt like my ribs were hitting something and it hurt. It would last for a few weeks and disappear. It would flair up maybe once or twice a year. They couldn't find anything wrong with me. They did ulrasounds and bloodwork. Then last July the pain came back on both sides under my ribs. They did a CT and it was clear.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what could cause these brown lines at the cuticle and on the actual hand? Person has athletes foot, jock itch, and Versicolor. Also suffers from severe abdominal cramping and bloating frequently. based on my research online, the only instances I can find a brown lines on the hands and fingernails occurred in people who have parasitic infections. After contact, I am now getting the brown lines in (not under) my fingernails without injury. Also peeling between the fingers.
Avatar f tn Sorry you're not feeling well. I hope you find your answers. The horizontal ridges sound like they might be something like Beau's lines. Have you considered seeing a Rheumatologist? A good one might be able to help get to the bottom of it.
Avatar f tn Beau lines (horizontal ridges on the nails) is a sign of injury or a underlying disease affecting the growth of the nail plate. Beau's nails can be due to conditions such as severe illness, Raynaud's phenomenon, pemphigus, chemotherapy, high fever. You numb toes/purple nails indicates likely Raynaud's phenomenon. Raynaud's can be primary or secondary (caused by an underlying disease, condition, or other factor).
1110676 tn?1265812109 Hello, A horizontal ridge across the nail usually means some form or disruption of the nail growth area. It can also be due to Beau's lines that appear when growth at the area under your cuticle is interrupted. Third possibility is of psoriasis. The inflammatory skin condition, it shows up as red, scaly patches on the skin and can also affect the skin cells in the nails.

Avatar m tn I have severe irritation in and under my belly button. Iside is a cut that I admittedly think I caused with my fingernail, but I've done that before and it's gone away on its own. This has been with me for at least 10 days now and theirs a growth that's formed directly below my b.b. The growth isn't a zit, I can feel it's mass underneath the skin. It's small but irritated badly. Hurts if I touch it. ---Please tell me what this sounds like to you.
Avatar m tn Is it true hat if a diagnosed mole under your fingernail that does not involve cuticle means itis NOT melanoma? Should all lines, diagnoses of a mole line in your fingernail be biopsied?
Avatar n tn My nail as is grows is very bumpy now with white lines or white looking holes(not really holes, just looks that way) I thought I originally got bit by a spider, already had a round of antibiotics, didn't help. I have been dealing with this for almost 4 months and my doc says it will just go away. It actually seemed like it was gone for about 10 days then all of a sudden it was back. It has stayed mainly at the tip of my middle finger but has gone as far as the first joint.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have had the exact same issue going on with my index and forefinger on my left hand only. The lines are not just up and down, they run diagonol as well. This is accompanied by clear bumps under the skin and has been re-occuring every week for more than two years now. The dermatologist I saw said it was eczema and put me on Vanos but it isn't helping (over a month of using Vanos).
Avatar f tn I have no heart problems, no ashma or lung problems. I have asked all my doctors but nobody can tell me why this is happening or what can be done about it. What next?
Avatar m tn Hi I just want to know what can cause some or all of these combined symptoms, Hair thinning, lost of appetite, a few dark toenails but not all of them, 1 fingernail half light pink half light brown with vertical lines no ridges, wart on ball of both feet and lately some lost of taste (I'm thinking due to thin white film on tongue) I was a Severe smoker until recently when I stopped.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor, a few days ago I had an appointment with a woman on the Internet, during which I fingered him, and later found that the middle fingernail was red in the middle of the bath, and there were two blood spots inside the front of the nail cover. Then I didn't bring a condom back and forth in her genitals, rubbing, and then there were two small polyp-like pieces in my urethra, especially red. I could see that the mucous membrane was damaged and there were red blood lines. 1.
1833444 tn?1325557062 Agreeing with Advocate1955, be sure to discuss this with your doctor. There's a condition called 'Terry's Nails' that is sometimes associated with advanced liver disease: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry's_nails It doesn't really sound as though this is what you're describing, but you should let them know regardless.
Avatar f tn I have done some research myself and curiously one day typed into google an odd symptom I had; vertical lines on my fingertips. The only explanation for this was Adrenal Fatigue. I read that another symptom of this was elevated heart rate and high blood pressure which I do have. I am only 18 years old, I am not under any major stress, do not feel overly tired, I maintain my weight (all the OPPOSITE symptoms of adrenal fatigue) I am very happy with life and laugh a lot every day!
