Avatar n tn Hi all, Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am a professional guitar player with growing concerns over the health of my fingernails. Over the past 5 years, I have practiced guitar daily on average of 3-4 hrs a day, with 1 hr a day minimum on "off" days. Since the start, I've noticed that the nail bed (and subsequently the overall length of the nail) of my ring finger on the left (guitar fretting) hand has gradually shortened.
Avatar m tn If fungal infection is present , the nail may detach from the nail bed which is not true in your case. So give this quite some time. Do not forcibly manipulate the nail to avoid injuring the area.
Avatar m tn The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the nail and skin specimen done to confirm the diagnosis. Also nail fungal infection may take a bit longer to go away. So it is important to use the topical and oral anrifungals as and when prescribed by a dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Hello, You seem to be having onychomadesis which is separation and falling off of a nail from the nail bed. Common causes are trauma to the nail, localized infection, nail fungi, allergy to nail enhancement products or some systemic illnesses. My sincere advice is to consult a dermatologist and get a histopathological examination, culture and biopsy of the skin around the nails and the nails done. Hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn He said it was osteo-arthritis evev when I kept telling him my finger nail was sore and I thought there was infection under the nail. It has gotten worse and now the nail is turning blue around the cuticle and I cannot straighten out the finger. What should I do or what do you think is wrong. It ALL started with the nail problem.
Avatar f tn The nail is very flimsy as well and no matter how much I have cut it, it always grows out the same way with the dents. The nail also has no cuticle. None of my other finger nails have these problems and are not nearly as flimsy. The dents and rash appeared at the same time and have been there the same length of time. The skin on the finger where the rash occurs is very dry and slightly wrinkled in appearance. The rash doesn't always itch, but occasionally does on random and is very itchy.
Avatar m tn m confused that whether it will put any effect if I adopt nail styles and designs in future. From Nail styles means this kind of nail designs : http://best-nail-designs.blogspot.com/2013/04/nail-designs.html Looking for your Answer.
Avatar f tn white part of my nails are moving up my nail bed to the pink part and becoming very uneven, worse when I wear nail polish, and particularly bad on my ring finger and pinky of both hands. I have Gilbert's syndrome though which affects the liver and impedes the liver from properly breaking down certain components it normally should break down such as Bilirubin. Get your doctor to check if you Bilirubin levels are abnormally high and to check your liver function.
Avatar f tn I used it for about 2-3 weeks. my nails became hard but then some of my nails started lifting from the nailbed. Meaning the nailwhite is growing backwards and there is space between the nail and nailbed. When I did the hardener treatment it used to burn a little (I thought that was normal, as the description mention minor burning). I am letting my nails grow out and some got better but 2 are verry stubborn. I keep them clean and dry. I also try to clean between the space.
Avatar m tn My nail symptoms with hypothyroidism are onycholysis (separation of the nail from the nail bed) and peeling nails. When I was a teenager my sister used to say that I was using a pin to scrape under my nails to make them look longer lol. I only have onycholysis very mildly on my ring fingers now. I don't have any moons either except my thumbs. I don't recall ever having moons so it's probably just my normal. I found this info about absent lunula...
Avatar f tn t really check my finger nails. My nails have been like that for a while though. Also when I trim my fingernails I've noticed that more of the nail bed is exposed as if the nail edge has extended backwards. If that makes sense? Please help! http://s1070.photobucket.com/user/YoYo12345/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsfv04swpo.jpeg.html?
Avatar f tn The middle finger lines are thicker and blurred, and the 2 toes, 2 little toes and index finger have thicker pigmentation than other nails. I biopsed a nail with not as much pigmentation as the ones mentioned above (my ring finger nail) .It was clear , Im 16 snd i had these from childhood (dont remember when they appeared). im also darlk skinned. Is there a need for a biopsy to check the blurred and wider pigmented nail?
Avatar f tn Hi i have been suffering from weak finger nails all my life and lately i decided to go to a nail technician to apply gel nails in order to have more support for my original nails.. However, after that the gel nails fell off my original nails became chipped off, very weak and worst than before the gel nails. Any suggestion please? Any products that can make my nails better?
Avatar f tn Brittle nails can also peel, I believe there was a question below in regards to this. As far as I know, nutritional deficiencies rather show as uneven surfaces of the nail bed.
Avatar f tn ve been getting my nails done with acrylics and gels for numerous years but now have what appears to be an infection in many of my nails and they are separaed from the nail bed. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Should I have the nails cut down? See a dermatologist? Kindly advise.
Avatar f tn t worry about the nail tech using his finger nail and getting something from that. You would know by now if you get a bacterial infection. Also, In my opinion I don't think you would get anything the way you describe.
Avatar f tn I was cutting my cat's nails, and I saw that his nail bed was black. This is the case for half of his claws on his front, left paw and for most of his nails on his rear, left paw. Is it an infection and should I take him to the vet? Is it serious? He is 8 years old now and I'm really worried.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, if these cells are destroyed the nail will not re-grow. From your symptoms it looks like superficial burn of the finger nail which should soon regrow. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I probably had a moderate problem (bit my nails where they were always halfway down the nail bed but def more than a sliver of nail left). All I did was paint my nails with a nail strengthening clear coat EVERYDAY. Even if the polish was still there I'd reapply. This way I never got to the actual nail. I would bite/pick at the polish but not the nail til the nail got long and strong enough.
Avatar f tn I know some hospitals want clean nails for the o2 sensor and also in the event of complications they want to be able to see your nail bed colour. A lot of registration paperwork will include a line that says no nail polish. But it seems like more and more hospitals are allowing it nowadays.
Avatar n tn I have a 21 month old boy that suddenly started having his nailbeds look as though they were lifting from the bases...mostly on his fingernails, some on toenails....Thank God, my son has never been sick (common colds, etc). I have taken him to a very reputable dermatologist in our area . He says "probably fungal, probably self limiting. As long as child is healthy otherwise and no other lesions on body, would 'just observe'.
Avatar f tn Is it bad or dangerous to eat your finger nails during pregnancy????? It's a bad habit I've always had. I'm only 17 weeks. Help.!
Avatar f tn If the result comes back that it is a fungal problem the doctor can prescribe on prescription medications for you either to apply to the finger nails and the nail bed, or medication to be taken by mouth. Again, this is a length process and you may need to be on medication for a few months. Make sure that you have good hygiene and always wash your hands after using the toilet and before eating any food. If your hands are in water a lot, get some hand protection, like latex free gloves.
Avatar f tn Horizontal ridges and white lines on nails are seen in trauma to nail bed, kidney diseases, pellagra or Vit B3 deficiency, low protein, arsenic poisoning, and liver diseases. Hence a kidney and liver function test should be done.
Avatar n tn why is the nail on my left hand ring finger split vertically down the whole nail?
Avatar n tn Thanks Brandywinne To geminigirl1963 , the old nail already from 1 week dropped and now the new nail is only cover the half of the finger and it is like it will never grow as it show like my other nails , meaning i am afraid that the process is already finished without letting the new nail grow to full.
Avatar n tn After i clipped my finger nails i noticed starting at the nail bed the skin on my finger tips was a light color, white/grey. after being exposed to a hot shower the skin started to let go. it only seems to peel at the tips and around the nail beds. nowhere else. two of my fingers on my left hand have healed up but my right had is getting worse and worse. every time i shower without latex gloves on the skin gets very weak and peels like crazy.
