Hi my friends finger is swollen and red an the side, it is also painful at the joint.
From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint. Now my knuckle in my hand of the index finger is starting to swell and it's painful. Both knuckles are continuously swollen. In the morning my finger is stiff and hurts. Sometimes I can barely move my finger. Usually I'll massage the joint and it will start to loosen up.
ok first things first. The knuckle above my right middle finger is swollen. This is due to me constantly hitting hard surfaces. i have no pain in that particular finger or knuckle or any part of the hand but i cant fully raise my right ring finger. It gets to about half way and i cannot raise it anymore unless i force it up with my other hand. Apart from that i have full use of my right hand and no pain in or around the knuckle or finger. Any ideas whats wrong??
As anti inflammatory has worn off - back to sore joint and swollen hand and fingers (not ridiculously swollen but tight when clenching fist). Can move joint but is noticeably sore. Is this arthritis or have i just pulled a tendon in this finger? Have not injured it and just woke up with the sore finger. No noticeable redness or anything else. I am 39 and in good health.
First it started swelling on my index finger, with a couple of visible red dots under the skin, and then it started on my ring finger, but the swelling was different, it got swollen at one point beyond the big joint of the finger and another swelling at the smaller joint of the finger. This time the swelling was hard to the touch. Like two red dots.
And then my little finger started swelling too, but this one was different also.
MCP is fine, PIP has less than 90% for sure and DIP seems okay. My finger is still extremely swollen at the PIP joint and at the area of the break due to superficial scar tissue and possibly scar tissue near the tendons.
Can anyone please advise their experiences and what the best road to take? I'm currently going to a hand therapist once a week and I'm debating on finding another therapist as well. Thank you all, looking forward to your replies.
When i was 11 a girl broke my right index finger at school and no one believed me when I said it was broken. So obviously it wasn't splinted or even buddy tapped. In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
My right hand middle finger joint (the one between the first and second phalanges seens to dislocate or move out of place when I press it with my thumb. It seens to pop although I can´t hear any sound, unless I´m holding it very close to my ears. It occurs when I press the left side of the joint ( the one closest to my index finger) using my thumb. I don´t know if it is the bone or some kind of ligament or tendon that is actually moving, but I can fell something moves out of place.
m 48 and woke up about three weeks ago with a swollen left middle finger joint. I could not close it. I iced it and it felt a little better but did not go away. This has come and gone for three weeks now. I have times when there is no swelling or pain and times when it really aches. It is definitely on the inside of the finger joint on the index finger side.
I do not have insurance but I will be seeing the doctor in a few weeks if this does not heal.
Dislocated finger at PIP joint 4 weeks ago. It was touching my pinky when I fell. Immediately popped it back in while it was numb. Still very swollen and painful. Hurts very bad to support anything from palm side. I know I tore the medial ligament. Have a red swollen feverish knot on medial side. Been icing it when I can and wearing splint on and off.
Is there material in the joint? Is it swollen inside? Is it due to damage to connective tissue? As an engineer, I need to know - can't help it.
* What's the long-term prognosis? Will my finger regain normal range of motion? And will it be pain-free?
* What can I do to help the healing process? Physical rehab? Medications (like anti-inflamatories, etc)?
I'm doing stretching excercises. The stretching (forcing the joint to bend past where it stops) hurts.
about 6 months ago i started to experience pain in my right hand around the middle knuckle- but more the area between the pointer and middle finger from the base of the finger to the middle of the top of my hand. its often swollen and i noticed a bruise on the top of my hand in that area today. i had an xray when the pain started and they saw nothing.
I'm a male 26. I've been having a swollen index finger for a month and a week already. It started off one night, I felt a pain in my middle joint of index finger, I started massaging it and it was painful, when I woke up, I had a swollen finger. After few days it increased in size, I had few scratches/sting like pins in the skin in that area, I was put on amoxicillin 2x every 12hrs and after like 4 days it decreased and got back to normal, then a week later it appeared again...
I dislocated my pinky finger 5 weeks ago. From joint to tip was perpendicular to bottom of finger. Was so horrified, I pulled up and put it back in place and iced it, but hurt so badly I went to the ER. X-ray showed no break and they said I did a really good job (straight). Taped it to a splint and told me to ice every 2 hours for 20 minutes and wear splint for 2 days.
I'm 57 and developed arthritis in the last few months. My right pinkie finger has swollen to the point that it looks and feels like it's broken. It's the middle joint between the hand knuckle and the nail knuckle. There's now a lump or "knob" where it feels broken. I even have to be careful drying my hands because if I forget to "guard" the joint and bend or twist the finger accidentally, it's very painful.
I broke my pinkie finger in Nov. it was xrayed twice. 2 wks apart. The break appeared on the second xray. My dr had me buddy wrap it. The break is at the second joint right under the knuckle. It is still swollen. It is also red and very painful. If i bump it at all it is unbearable. I know I will need to go back to the dr but I would like to have some idea of what may be wrong in order to ask the right question. Can anyone here help?
It just started and was really harsh at first. The finger is a little red compared to my other fingers. Pressing on the joint or where it hurt reduces the pain significantly and now the pain is almost gone but there's a sort of numbness in the edge of the finger. I haven't been using the finger or anything while it happened.
The pain resembles in a manner the pain after throwing something really hard and the pressure that accumulates at the edge of the hand fingers.
I snapped my ring finger back pretty hard and far almost 2 weeks ago. I knew it would be sore, so I just iced it and took Tylenol and ibuprofen for the pain. A few days later it was very painful and my hand around my knuckle area was swollen. I went and had it checked for a break and they're was no visable break on the xray. My Dr put a cast/splint to keep me from bending it. Since it's only the hard cast part on the bottom of my hand and wrapped, I take it off at work.
This flared up about a month and a half ago, and is in the middle joint of my right index finger, the PIP joint. It has gone through cycles of being almost normal to....like today- more swollen and painful than ever. The joint is tight, painful, and has a good amount of fluid over the knuckle. It is a sausage-like finger now. Warming it and slowly working it get some movement back for the day. There seems no rhyme or reason for what flares it up.
i formed a rash type thing on my middle finger on the middle joint on my palm side, when I say it's a rash my finger just swelled up very badly and it was red. I contacted a PA and he said it was some bacteria or something and prescribed bacterium to take for a week. I didn't notice any big changes from taking it but after about a week it wasn't swollen at all and I went back to the doctor but this time the PA brought in a doctor and they said it was herpetic whitlow.
My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint.
The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure.
I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
