Avatar m tn I have treated twice for Hep C once for 15 mo standard Interferon and Rib, second time for 7 mo with addition of Alinia stopping Jan of 09. I have severe loss of finger joint movement in both hands. started 3 or 4 months after final treatment. My ortho guy doesn't see any structural damage or signs of arthritis .Could there be tie to the Hep C or treatment??
Avatar m tn This flared up about a month and a half ago, and is in the middle joint of my right index finger, the PIP joint. It has gone through cycles of being almost normal to....like today- more swollen and painful than ever. The joint is tight, painful, and has a good amount of fluid over the knuckle. It is a sausage-like finger now. Warming it and slowly working it get some movement back for the day. There seems no rhyme or reason for what flares it up.
Avatar n tn About one month ago, the largest knuckle on my index finger(the joint on the actual finger, not the one connecting to hand) swelled up, became stiff and painful. No injury happened prior, nor can I remember a significant one in my life.It is sharply painful when I press between the joint nad on the sides of it. In the last month, it has been both worse and better. Last week it was 90% to be fine in regards to pain and movement. Yesterday it wet to worse than ever.
Avatar n tn When there is a capsular injury to a joint in finger, it is best to give the RICE treatment for a few days such as rest, ice application, compression bandage (you can strap the injured finger with the neighboring finger) and elevation (keep hands elevated on a pillow at bed time). You can also take an anti-inflammatory pain killer. Once the injury settles down and there is less pain you have to start physiotherapy.
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome. It could be arthritis, tendonitis, a dislocation of the joint, related to repetitive motion or any number of things similar. How long has this been going on? what have you used to treat it? Because it seems to be getting worse instead of better, I would suggest you go to the doctor to have it evaluated.
Avatar n tn I have to say that, going only by what I see on this forum since my SVR in April 2009, one of the most common complaints of residual effects after treatment is joint pain. My physician's diagnosis is arthritis. Maybe I would have gotten arthritis anyway but the fact remains I didn't have any arthritis prior to treatment and I have very noticeable arthritis now to the point where it hurts my knees quite a bit to lift myself out of a chair and hurts going down stairs.
Avatar f tn Arthritis or inflammation of joint that moves from joint to joint (migratory) can be due to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, rheumatic fever, SLE, HIV, Lyme’s disease, sarcoidosis, Whipple’s disease, Henoch-Schnlein Purpura, bacterial endocarditis and gonoccoccal arthritis. Hashimotos thyroidits is another possibility. It can also be fibromyalgia and or chronic fatigue syndrome. The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem.
Avatar n tn Well if there was no injury then the other possibilities are arthritis like gout, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. It could also be irritation of synovial membrane of the joint or it could be synovial membrane’s infection. Do consult an orthopedic specialist. The treatment will depend on the diagnosis. However over the counter ant inflammatory drugs will help relieve pain in all cases. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn You could have injured interphalangeal joint of your finger. The multiple joint involvement could also be due to infection or due to reactive arthritis. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
2136167 tn?1374728651 Your symptoms sure sound like rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder that causes arthritis among other health problems. Interferon (a chemotherapy drug prescribed with ribavirin and/or other drugs) is used to treat chronic hepatitis C infection. Interferon STIMULATES the immune system and it's not uncommon that patients with auto-immune disorders will experience a worsening of their autoimmune disease symptoms while on interferon therapy.
Avatar f tn I woke up yesterday morning with a nagging pain in the middle joint of my right ring finger. Since then I’ve been unable to bend my finger because the pain is so excruciating.. however, I’m 16 years old and suffer with severe joint hyper mobility and also type 3 ehlers danlos syndrome (the hyper mobile one). Is it likely I have arthritis?
Avatar f tn However it should be in your distal most joint of the middle finger. If the proximal joint of the finger is involved, early rheumatoid arthritis can be a third possibility (and age is not a criteria in this one). A generalized body ache can be related to whether change also (especially when cold climate is present). So i would suggest you to take some NSAID's and wait.If it subsides,no need to see a specialist. However if the same persists, orthopaedician advice will be required. Regards.
1427077 tn?1282913207 I have a lump on the top joint of my index finger which has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes its sore but now always & its starting to get bigger. Is it worth getting it checked out?
Avatar f tn -The pain and stiffness come on quickly, whether from an injury or an unknown cause; you may be experiencing the onset of rheumatoid arthritis. -The pain is accompanied by fever; you may have infectious arthritis. -The pain develops quickly and is associated with redness and extreme tenderness of the joint; this may be the onset of gout.
1024532 tn?1380058352 I have been experiencing swollen joints in right hand the index and middle finger are also swollen. I have also a stiff jaw and ankles are weak. I also woke up with a stiff neck. I have been tested for RA and thyroid. Gave me a shot in joint of cortizone and I had bad reactions and still swollen and red. I went to ER Monday and they gave me Vicodin for pain. Has anyone else had similar symptons and still negative results on blood work for rhmeutoid arthritis? Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Hey everyone, I'm about 3 months into Lyme treatment. Most of my symptoms have disappeared or improved but I still have pretty bad pain in my fingers and tendons on my hands. My thumb, index, and middle finger hurt the most, along with the tendons down my thumb. Since starting antibiotics it has improved slightly but it only got so better. Currently I'm on doxy and omnicef along with many supplements (mainly for my immune system). Will different antibiotics help better?
Avatar f tn Steroids and NSAIDs are the mainstay of medical treatment. Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain with cold hands and finger tips is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, and Hasimotos thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn Followed up with family doctor in a week, another xray, he said yes cracked around middle joint (side of the middle joint that faces towards middle finger). However the next day he phoned and said no its not broken. About a month later went to physiotherapy which included ultrasound treatment and compressions stocking. This lasted about three to four months. In Spring of this year I had no improvement.
Avatar m tn Last week I had a sudden onset of pain in my left middle finger joint while I was playing a stringed instrument, which is a usual activity for me. An X-ray showed bone deterioration at that joint so it seems my affliction is rehumatoid arthritis. I can see a reccomended orthopedic specialist in one month, and my question is should I find a specialist I can see sooner? In other words, how important is it to start treatment immediatly?
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar f tn I know that joint pain is a side effect of taxol, however, could this have caused the knee and back pain that i have been experiencing for the last four and a half years? I needed to be pre-medicated with benadryl and prednisone due to a reaction i had shortly after my first taxitier treatment. Does my body reacting adversely to the chemo in the first place cause more severe side effects? I'm curious to know because i have had lumbar pain and knee pain ever since my chemotherapy.
Avatar n tn I woke up two days ago with sore joint (closest to palm) on ring finger on right hand. Hand and fingers got more swollen as day progressed. Took anti inflammatory tablet that night with dinner and next morning everything back to normal with only a little bit of joint pain. As anti inflammatory has worn off - back to sore joint and swollen hand and fingers (not ridiculously swollen but tight when clenching fist). Can move joint but is noticeably sore.
Avatar m tn I'm 57 and developed arthritis in the last few months. My right pinkie finger has swollen to the point that it looks and feels like it's broken. It's the middle joint between the hand knuckle and the nail knuckle. There's now a lump or "knob" where it feels broken. I even have to be careful drying my hands because if I forget to "guard" the joint and bend or twist the finger accidentally, it's very painful.
Avatar f tn You should see an Orthopedician or Rheumatologist and continue his symptomatic arthritis treatment and follow up regularly so that it decreases completely. He should be careful while using methotrexate, as the reason for arthritis was not known and should take folic acid along with it and with any adverse effects should stop it. The response to the prescribed drugs should be monitored closely. Try using ice packs regularly for the inflammation of the ankle joint.
Avatar f tn last time i was on treatment, I had what felt like arthritis, but when I finished treatment it went away. it was the meds.
Avatar f tn Depending on the type of arthritis it is, early detection and treatment can make a huge difference down the line.
