1832268 tn?1326816010 (please forgive any misspellings) My mother just recovered from a bout of interstitial pneumonia, and has been told that she is in the final stages of her pulmonary hypertension...could you please tell me what an average life expectancy is at this point...? She currently needs to use 6 liters of continuous oxygen per minute to maintain an oxygen saturation in the 94 percent range. She maintains this saturation as long as she remains seated.
Avatar n tn 7 Any of these things can lead to the cause of death. Patients with IPF can die from heart failure, respiratory failure, or collapsed lungs.
Avatar f tn Liver problems (rarely, liver function worsens) including an increased chance of liver failure in patients with cirrhosis. Patients with both the hepatitis C virus and HIV have an increased chance of liver failure during PEGASYS treatment. Change in a blood test that measures liver inflammation occurs more often in patients with hepatitis B. If you have a rise in this blood test you may need to be watched more closely with additional blood tests.
Avatar f tn When it became evident that she was in the final stages and gasping for breath they administered morphine, orally, then a suppository, then orally again. It all happened so fast but when the last dose was given I was overwhelmed. Thankfully she lived for an additional 4 hours becasue I know now that I would have had a hand in her death by giving them permission to ease her pain. But I am left was such anguish that I could have helped to end her life. How do I cope with this feeling?
Avatar f tn My father is in the final stages of dementia. He can no longer hold anything or walk. He quit speaking about 4 years ago. I just was recently told that he no longer chews. This has been for about 6 weeks. His food is thickened so he can swallow it. He has lost about 20 pounds in 5 months. His albumin level is 2.7, and 2.5 is sometimes the criteria for hospice care. My question is, how much longer before he loses his ability to swallow?
Avatar m tn This is not a medical problem this is an issue, your husband believes what he he wants to believe. No one can change what someone else believes. He is an adult and he is free to believe whatever he wants. Why fight a losing battle over something that doesn't matter? If your husband has final stages of cirrhosis (whatever that means) then he should be on a liver transplant list because without a liver transplant the final stages of cirrhosis are fatal despite what he believes.
Avatar f tn what are the final stages of hepc? My boyfriend was diagnosed with hepc, cirrohis, liver lesions and low platelets (they weren't able to increase them in the hospital). The local hospital here said they couldn't do a liver biopsy because it was to dangerous and they weren't sure about him going to another hospital because he has no medical insurance and can't get any.
Avatar f tn Cirrhosis is a 6 on the Ishak system that was used to assess the amount of liver damage. It is the final stage of liver disease that can be assessed using a biopsy. There are no "stages of cirrhosis" from on any biopsy scoring method. Only stage 6 on the Ishak and stage 4 on Metavir. Your liver disease was assessed at a 2. You have minimal liver damage at this time. In fact since your liver damage is only beginning you could wait for future treatments if you desired.
Avatar f tn These complications result from portal hypertension and/or from liver insufficiency. The survival of both stages is markedly different with compensated patients having a median survival time of over 12 years compared to decompensated patients who survive less than 2 years (1, 3). It has also been shown that both stages have different predictors of death (1).
878236 tn?1240344901 Coinfection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) is not uncommon, particularly because of similar routes of infection. In HBV-infected patients, the rate of HCV coinfection ranges from 10% to 30%.[1] Patients who are coinfected have various serologic and virologic profiles and a diverse spectrum of disease.
Avatar n tn she was diagnosed 4 years ago with the beginning of cirrhosis. the final stages of hepc include cirrhosis of the liver (fluid buildup in abdomen, water on the brain which leads to confusion, bleeding from mouth, sleep alot, flip flop of days and nights, etc) and flare ups of hep c which include temp, open sores, flu like symptoms, itchy skin.Eventually they will fall into a coma. hope this helps. have him evaluated. they can do a liver biospy to determine whether or not his liver is effected.

Avatar m tn 201) and, among progressors, mean ΔF/year was 0.212 ± 0.66 in patients with F0 and 0.266 ± 0.91 in those with F1 (P = ns). However a ΔF of 3 stages as well as progression to F3 or to F4 (cirrhosis) were observed only in patients with F1 in the initial biopsy. Overall, fibrosis progression was observed in 13 of 27 cases with F0 (48.1%, including 5 to F1 and 8 to F2) and in 51 of 79 with F1 (64.5%, including 22 to F2, 16 to F3 and 13 to F4).
