Avatar f tn Were you ever on antidepressants or any medication that would effect dopamine, serotonin or norepinephrine levels, prior to being dx'd with Fibromyalgia? Avatar n tn Although there is no cure for fibromyalgia, home treatment can relieve some of the symptoms. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort. It is very important to try low-stress exercises such as walking, swimming, water aerobics, and biking rather than straining exercises such as weight training. Heavy exercises worsen the symptoms.
Monster These areas feel painful with even slight pressure and are called tender points (figure 1). Many patients with fibromyalgia feel that their joints are swollen, although there is no visible inflammation of the joints (arthritis). ### FIBROMYALGIA TESTS — There are no specific laboratory or imaging tests used to diagnose fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Savella is working great for my fibromyalgia with the methadone!
222369 tn?1274478235 it also offers help to people who suffer from mild but chronic pain (like me with fibromyalgia) i have been on it twice now... the first time i started it i didnt like the way it made me feel, but i was still in active addiction too so i stopped it...i am now currently taking it again, and am in the process of stopping again...
401095 tn?1351395370 In addition to increasing the levels of serotonin, 5-HTP also causes an increase in the levels of endorphin and other neurotransmitters. The use of 5-HTP in the treatment of fibromyalgia began with studies on a drug known as fenclonene. This drug blocks the enzyme that enables the conversion of tryptophan to 5-HTP and, as a result, it effectively blocks serotonin production. When subjects took this drug, they experienced severe symptoms of fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn I was only curious about what treatment they offer. Antidepressants are a garbage-can treatment that I don't want, and don't want to waste the money seeing a specialist for it. My family doctor can give me this, and can also treat the pain when it flares-up. I was interested in seeing a specialist only because I want unique/specialized treatment for this condition.
Avatar f tn the liver filters toxins and if i got the info right, something called Kupffer cells in turn release IL1 IL2 somehow in turn the spinal cord and brain get over excited and we perceive pain. here are some links if anyone suffers from pain..
Avatar f tn I posted my intro here yesterday, so I won't go into all my details, but after 2-3 years of odd symproms and random/chronic muscle pain my neurologist has suggested that I have fibromyalgia. She said I should discuss it with my famil doctor at my next appt, which is in July. Both doctors have run me through countless tests to rule out other neuro and autoimmune diseases including MS. My family doctor really felt like I may be depressed.
1943833 tn?1349280189 Personally, I'm against doctors who make determinations in isolation - like going by labs and ignoring history and symptomology or taking a shot in the dark with psyche meds and antidepressants. And then there are many doctors who follow conventional protocols too strictly, and disregard many conditions as non- "established" leaving their patients in Limbo, offering only symptom relief meds at best!
209591 tn?1267418314 Hi, I am a 25 year old female that was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in August along with many other things...I have been staying so tired, some days sleeping more than 15 hours....Just getting out of bed sometimes is almost impossible...For you all what has been the most helpful treatment (exercise, therapy or medication) for your fatigue? All of my medicines cause fatigue and so do all 8 to 10 diagnoses I currently have...Thanks so much for your help.
646598 tn?1223712055 Has anyone tried Celexa or any other anti-depressants for their Fibromyalgia? I was told it was approved this past June, of 2008, for the "treatment" of Fibromyalgia. If so, did it help any?
1023657 tn?1251848541 When there is insufficient oxygen and nutrient supply to the cells, protein is taken from the muscles and converted to glucose for energy, which causes tissue breakdown resulting in the aches and pains associated with Fibromyalgia Syndrome. It may be stated that there are a number of factors involved. Physical or emotional stress, Rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases, such as Lupus, are particularly likely to develop Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia may occur spontaneously.

Avatar m tn However, the test is not painful per se, you will just feel like someone is pressing on a bruised area vs just the pressure of a touch. Generally people w/fibro have problems with pain and with getting enough sleep, as well as achieving a deep enough sleep to be rested. Your doctor will probably put you on an antidepressant, a medicine to help you sleep and a pain medicine. Cymbalta is often the antidepressant used because it can also help with the pain.
2010625 tn?1329375656 I have been in pain for a month now, my psychiatrist put me on Gabapentin, and it does help some, but doesn't help with all of the pain all of the time. I am not diagnosed with Fibromyalgia yet, mostly because my medical doctor wanted me to go to a specialist, but can't right now due to lack of insurance. If it is not Fibromyalgia I am guessing it must be something like it....some kind of pain disorder anyways.....
358486 tn?1294779988 I totally disagree with High Noon. Considering that this is the Pain Management Forum, I dont find that Brandy F should be limited to the Fibro forum. Pain is pain.
Avatar f tn again thank you for replying and I am so sorry for taking soooo darn long to reply...... as for the antidepressants my doc said AFTER Im complete with my taper then we will see if I need to take one???
Avatar m tn Just to say I wouldn't be recommending it to everyone with a particular problem, especially one with enough problems and difficulties correctly diagnosing such as fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn Stress, excessive physical exertion, lack of sleep and change in humidity may precipitate it. Treatment of fibromyalgia includes Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants such as flexeril, tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors(includes aropax), anti-seizure drugs like gabapentin and pregabalin and central nervous system (CNS) stimulants such as modafinil.
Avatar n tn I have no co-infections and don't remember a tick bite. I've undergone treatment for Lyme with antibiotics which have only made me feel better for a time, no herxheimer reactions. At times I will test positive for H. Pylori. but that's it. I was put on a course of prednisone for a sinus infection, and that was the first time I was able to be up and about after months of being bedridden. I was able to breathe better, less pain, my skin cleared up. I felt so much better.
Avatar f tn Since 2000, I developed chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM) and have had a tough time dealing with the loss of a career and the inability to work any more.
899635 tn?1241972456 I have muscle problems. Its hard to explain. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism (2 months ago) and have started synthroid 150 mcgs at the time, and since the 5th day on this med I have had muscle problems. Ive looked up symptoms and it all points to fibro, what kind of testing gets done to find out for sure? What questions should I ask of my doctor to find out? Is there treatment for this condition and if so, what is it?
1340994 tn?1374197577 In a recent study, the cause of fibromyalgia is actually an abnormality in the palms of patients' hands. It was found that patients with fibromyalgia have an enormous increase in the number of sensory nerve fibers within the blood vessels of the skin on the palms of their hands. So the next step is to find out why there are so many of these nerve fibers. It's a start!
Avatar m tn If you feel interferon is the direct cause of your fibromyalgia (which no one can confirm) I would run away from interferon, not embrace it. Stick with drugs especially developed for fibromyalgia, not something that may insult you autoimmune system even more. Sorry, don't see the logic in your thinking.
Avatar f tn has anyone tried coconut oil to treat fibromyalgia with any success? My fibro started after a viral infection...then I had terrible muscle spasms and a strange weakness in my neck, as though I could not hold up my head. I had a lot of pain in my hips, buttocks, and upper back in the trapezius area. I was at the end of perimenopause and I had recently stopped taking birth control pills. The spasms stopped after a couple of months and my doctor put me on trazadone.
975514 tn?1325001538 I will tell you that I have had this disease since I was in my late teens and Fibromyalgia can go into remission with the proper care, exercise and with good stress management, but it will never go away for good. I have come in and out of pain throughout my life. One day doctors will have the mystery of the disease figured out (hopefully sooner than later), but for now, I am content with belief because I can finally get help.
136956 tn?1425609872 I've been keeping up on the latest research on CFS and there is enough research and also lab tests that can prove you have CFS; same with fibromyalgia. I guess this is why the CDC finally came out and said, "yes, CFS is real". For the latest CFS/FIBRO related research, google "Co-Cure" and check out their website. Also, there is now a lab that can make the CFS or FIBRO diagnosis ! However, they don't need blood... they need your spinal fluid. (( YIKES !
748543 tn?1463449675 I, as most responsible medical professionals, believe in using the most conservative successful form of treatment. As one who treats patients with most severe TMD symptoms, I can assure you that my patients are unable to manage the pain associated with these conditions by simply receiving counseling on their habits. What's more is that I find that dental malocclusion is frequently one of the principle causes of the TMD.
