Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia treatment and learning center

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn There is something very empowering about taking the initiative to get treatment and to ask to adjust treatment in view of your results. One example of how one small lifestyle change has made a huge difference in my life is that I noticed that my skin was very dry, my heels calloused and cracked. This is common with hypothyroidism, and with diabetes, both of which I have. I also know that diabetics need to be particularly careful with their feet.
Avatar f tn I compiled a list of the latest treatment plans from many CFS/Fibro experts and posted them on my website. Here's the link.... I hope you will find the information to be helpful: http://groups.msn.com/Neuro-ImmuneSupport/treatments.
Avatar f tn My lupus tests came back negative but the ANA was again positive. I was then told the rheumatologist couldn't treat my fibromyalgia and to take motrin. Ooookay!
Avatar n tn Dr. Lipschultz at the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center of Philadelphia reported to me that even igenix can produce false negavtive tests. He treats for Lyme based on symptoms and doesn't rely heavily on any Lyme tests because they are so unreliable.
253566 tn?1219683299 Mine was normal both before and during treatment, but dropped and remained low normal for over a year post treatment. My symptons aren't as bad as yours, so haven't supplemented the testosterone, but you might consider at least trying it, even if you're in the low or perhaps even mid-normal range. You also mention your lab results are out of whack. What tests specifically aren't right?
446963 tn?1205333997 I haven't had regular medical care but have had several doctors quickly call my joint pain fibromyalgia and send me on my way with whatever pain medication. I've also been spacey all my life, forgetful. Clumsy. I went to my GP to ask if I could have ADD. He prescribed Zoloft because I was still breastfeeding my 10 month old son and he said it would be safer. However, November last year all my symptoms came to a head.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
975514 tn?1325001538 In addition to the community here, MedHelp also offers tools to help you and your doctor in your road to wellness. Fibromyalgia and CFS can be so intricate and can have so many different symptoms. Due to this, it is very helpful that MedHelp offers health trackers for us to utilize. We can track our progress and especially our flare ups. Below are just a few trackers that I find useful. • CFS/FMS Tracker - http://www.medhelp.org/land/health-trackers • Pain Tracker - http://www.medhelp.
612876 tn?1355518095 So regardless of the process you took along the way, please select the most specialized/advanced care you have sought out for testing and/or treatment. And by all means, leave comments and let us know what has worked for you, what hasn't, and what your hopes for future care are!
173930 tn?1196341998 I'm about 15 weeks post tx, and basically I feel great. I do have sore ankles and feet when I get up in the morning, probably an arthritic vestige of the IFN (that I did not have prior to treating). I've also put on a few pounds - I started tx at 180 lbs, dropped to about 165lbs at my lowest and now have jumped up to 200lbs (the heaviest I've ever been in my life (I'm 6'2" btw)). But I'm pretty sure the arthritic stiffness will go away in time, and I'm really to blame for the weight gain.
Avatar n tn Personally, I think there is no such condition as fibromyalgia and chonic fatigue and its just a cop out diagnosis to keep them in the business of cashing in on my pain and symptoms thru unnessary surgeries, tests, and proceedures, not to mention the BIG PHARMA bonuses they get from dolling out drugs that havent been approved thru the FDA by way of "free samples!
6322039 tn?1380731598 Like Barb, I am very frustrated by long term misdiagnosis and lack of adequate treatment of my hypothyroidism. Only by finding this Forum 5 years ago and learning about the importance of Free T3 was I able to finally get my doctor to prescribe T3 in my med. I'd like to think this thyroid mess will change, but I can't see it happening. I've tried to get the AACE to have a dialogue about TSH reference ranges, etc.
909086 tn?1242664364 I requested my doc to order a TSH last fall as I had all the classic symptoms. In addition to the typical ones, I also developed palpitations. The TSH came back elevated, although not terribly so. My doc deemed me "sub-clinical" and not someone who required treatment. I'm troubled by the fact that I have also been hypertensive for the last year as well-chronically 150's over 90's. My doc also finds this not too terribly important. I am a healthy 45-year old woman.
Avatar n tn Hi I did IUI on Saturday and am now doing the dreadful 2WW and I am already feeling discouraged but not defeated. I have PMS signs and it sucks cuz IF and WHEN AF shows up I'm gonna feel like burying my self under my sheets and never waking up. Don't mean to seem negative but today I am feeling prety down. Anyhow good luck to both of us.
Avatar n tn I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
Avatar f tn You could check to see if there is a community health center in your area. We have one here and they see people on a sliding scale depending on your income. However you are able, I would see a well-reviewed doctor (Sometimes can find reviews on the internet) or one someone recommends. You might start with a FAMILY PHYSICIAN who is experienced. Many doctors listed that way have a broader knowledge of the body and issues of the body, as compared to just a Doctor.
Avatar n tn pdf And just google it for other articles and medical publications. This is lumped together with Fibromyalgia much of the time, which can exist in conjunction with MPD, but is most definitely different, but many people recognize the name "Fibromyalgia". It may help you to find the "right" doctor. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Writer's first posting to this forum. Have had a long protracted history suffering from the ravages of acute meningoencephalitis or "Mollaret's Meningitis" of viral etiology and for which there is no known cure. Treatment consists of saline drip and IM injections of meperidine HCL (Demerol), morphine sulfate, or equivalent.
Avatar f tn The clitoral swelling and tenderness doesn't happen as much as the inner labia swelling and tenderness now. My specialist, Dr.Andrea Rapkin at UCLA Medical Center wants me to stay in contact with women who have similar symptoms as me. She's doing some research right now and has told me I don't have Vulodynia or Vestibulitis (though I'm going to bring it up again when I see her-she's mentioned it but has said the it she's never heard of the clitoris being affected, etc.
242516 tn?1368227505 - measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine and thimerosal-containing vaccines can combine to cause autism; - thimerosal-containing vaccines alone can cause autism; and - MMR vaccine without thimerosal can cause autism. The U.S. Court of Federal Claims Office of Special Masters ruled out the first and third theories since "the evidence was overwhelmingly contrary to the petitioners' contentions" on each issue, according to Special Master George Hastings.
Avatar n tn But after 2 weeks of treatment and no relief i have been left clueless. I have been to 2 diffrent doctors and each one looks and tells me how normal and healthly it is. But it hurts! and that means its not healthly. I felt like they were just waiting for a blister to appear ( and to be honest i had been to) and would have been happy because it is taking over my life and i would have known and could have delt with it.

Avatar f tn Thanks for responding, can't believe someone else has chronic migraines & I C, they're supposed to be linked, along w endometriosis and CFS and fibromyalgia .. I have never been big on diet sweeteners and haven't used any in years.. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
Avatar n tn It took awhile, but my primary care figured out the best treatment was antibiotics, antihistamine, decongestant, and klonopin (a form of valium that relaxes the nerves and stops the dizziness). I found that meclizine was useless. A few weeks ago, the problem occurred again. This time my allergies had just kicked in from exposure to extreme mold and hay fever season.
Avatar n tn my gyn has had a lot of success with this treatment and hopes that in 6 weeks i should finally be healed. i'll post an update soon. extra advice: if your gyn is not helping, get a new one!! ask other women and see who comes recommended. it's also nice to find a doctor who is open to incorporating herbal remedies into the treatment. western biomedicine tends to focus strictly on the part of the body that is sick. sometimes they miss the bigger picture.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back.
