Some doctors will prescribe antidepressant medications, although there are many adverse effects. Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These medications can help some individuals with fibromyalgia.

Avatar f tn I have fibromyalgia symptoms triggered by a mosquito borne illness. I use monolaurin (amazing!) to get rid of muscle pain, exercise regularly (walking, yoga, stretching) to get rid of joint pain and joint stiffness and quit refined sugar, gluten and dairy. I am now in remission. I still suffer from fatigue but nothing like it used to be! This seems to be the magic formula for me. Also, I take magnesium citrate at night for anxiety and sleep.

127990 tn?1198200445 Yes stress, surgery and a head-on collision in 2005 brought out the symptoms and sent me into full blown fibromyalgia and I now was determined not to let it take my life over. I had to work only 2 days a week, rest, research, determine which supplements I needed, receive myofacial massage for almost a year, and now am almost back to my normal self. God is so good. I prayed for wisdom and direction and I know it was only through His mercy that I am feeling so much better!
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear about your symptoms and arthritis. The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is clinical and based on diffuse muscluoskeletal pain, which is often worse at night. The diffuse tenderness is most prominent in the neck and shoulders, along the spine and in knees and upon deep palpation at what are known as trigger points. Your symptoms seem to be too widely spread and muscle twitching is evident which is really not a part of fibro.
Avatar m tn Study proves fibromyalgia is the real deal Fibromyalgia sufferers have gotten a raw deal for years. Many doctors think the disease is all in their head because there's no lab test that can confirm the source of their symptoms. And with symptoms as elusive as chronic fatigue, muscle pain, and persistent doubt, it's not hard to figure out why these docs are so stumped. Past research has implied that depression was actually the true source of the fatigue and pain of fibromyalgia.

Avatar n tn Yes, it causes all fibromyalgia symptoms as does hormone and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Fibromyalgia is just a label put onto symptoms according to my pulmonologist and not the cause. It has taken me 12 years of pain and suffering to be told this. Someone was honest enough to inform me. Good luck on your search.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome, I would definitely get into see a Rheumatologist and have a full work up. It sounds like you may have FM or CFS. You need to see someone who is Fibro- Friendly. Let me know if you need help finding someone in your area. Are you in the US?
587021 tn?1302220907 I am 40 years old. I also have alot of symptoms that I am not sure are just fibromyalgia. I have extremely dry eyes/mouth but tested neg in blood tests for Sjogren's. I also have alot of urethra pain off and on. I have warm prickly numbing sensations in my hands, especially at night and it has been happening for over 5 years now. My newest symptom is a warm sensation in the back of my left thigh that is getting pretty constant.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with extremely notable symptoms since 4/09. After much blood work, many hospital visits and an abnormal MRI, my neurologist told me I have Fibromyalgia. He then sent me to a rheumatologist who was COMPLETELY against diagnosing someone with Fibromyalgia. He instantly took me off the nuerontin that I had only been on for one month. I then returned to my neuro advising him that my symptoms continued and some were worse.
Avatar f tn The one common thread with Lyme Disease is the number of systems affected (brain, central nervous system, autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, musco-skeletal, etc.) and sometimes the hourly/daily/weekly/monthly changing of symptoms. No one will have all symptoms but if many are present serious consideration must be given by any physician to Lyme as the possible culprit. Lyme is endemic in Canada period.
Avatar n tn What kind of doctor should I consult as my primary care provider for fibromyalgia?
1943833 tn?1349280189 I have wondered often over the last few years if I have Fibromyalgia, but have never asked a doctor about it because I don't seem to have the tender points. I'm wondering how many of these symptoms are "common" for fibromyalgia. Or maybe CFS? -occasional severe sensitivity to noise. I can be sitting in a room, with people around me and noises I would normally not mind (kids playing, etc) will "hurt". I don't really have a headache, and it's not an actual pain.
5682570 tn?1372290919 ) Chronic itchiness medical treatment is behind times, as symptom relieving conventional treatments don't work, since the medical establishment has failed to identify the real cause of this, unless the immune system can correct this. In Fibromyalgia , Neurotransmitter Dysregulation is something that comes up in the research circles all the time!
Avatar f tn Hi, I am wondering if fibromyalgia can be missed for years before being diagnosed? When I was a kid up until now I have always had muscle pain. Charlie horses, cramps, tingling in my feet & swelling. No doctor ever said anything to my parents or me. Now I'm 34 haven't been able to work for the last 4 wks due to muscle pain, cramps so bad I'm unable to walk, confusion so bad it interfered with my work, my immune system is basically null & void.
434278 tn?1324709825 The pain across the back of your shoulders is very typical of fibromyalgia. It is not uncommon for lupus patients to also have fibromyalgia. The one thing that seems to help with fibro is sleep. I take a benadryll and a melatonin to help me sleep. I'm not saying that you only have lupus. I was also told that all I had was fibro and deep don I knew I had more than fibro. I know people w/ fibro and they have never been as sick as I was.
975514 tn?1325001538 I think I have been misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia. And I feel as though I am getting weaker and weaker lately. I need some opinions from the group because my doctor doesn't seem to want to help me. First, I have a strong family history of autoimmune disease including RA, Reactive Arthritis (my father), thyroid and diabetes. I have been diagnosed with DDD, degenerative facet disease, and facet osteoarthritis.
Avatar n tn Do I need an anti depressant yes, but my depression is caused by the fibromyalgia. I also have myasthenia gravis and gastro paresis (oral medications are a real problem). Even now more than 20 years after naming my pain there are very few Drs. that seem to believe this condition is real. I had a Dr. tell me the only reason he believed was because his own wife also a Dr. had been diagnosed.
Avatar n tn Or do you just sit down together and talk about your symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really upset because I feel like this is going to take forever.
Avatar m tn Now the virus has become active her Fibromyalgia has spread throughout her body and pain become far more severe, as it is said Hepatitis can be a known trigger for Fibromyalgia. But i am curious on knowing how anyones symptoms of Fibromyalgia is after clearing the Hepatitis C Virus ? Now the Virus has been removed, there is no trigger from the Hepatitis so does this relieve the pain for the Fibromyalgia? YES? NO?
Avatar n tn But make sure the rheumatologist deals with Fibromyalgia along with the connective tissue diseases (BOTH) and BELIEVES Fibromyalgia is real too! I went to the Cleveland Clinic couple years ago for at least many of the symptoms you describe; I was then diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Don't let doctors brush you off with it's all pyschological mumbo jumbo - too often (unfortunately!) that's the norm for doctors in cases where it is a female.
Avatar f tn Fibromyalgia is a REAL disease and has been for many years. I was diagnosed over 20 years ago when it was called "Fibromyacitis". This is a definition from Yahoo Health: "Fibromyalgia is a common condition characterized by long-term, body-wide pain and tender points in joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, morning stiffness, sleep problems, headaches, numbness in hands and feet, depression, and anxiety.
