Hey there I'm new to this site, but I've had fibromyalgia for about 5-6 yrs. It took my Dr about three mnths to get a diagnosis. Since there is no diagnostic test for it. Its a process of elimination. I know your frustration. Your insurance sounds whacked! Please tell its not an HMO ?! Lyrica is not an experimantal drug for this treatment the FDA approved it for the treatment of fibromyalgia. I took it for a few yrs.

I took Lyrica for my fibro although it really helped with the pain, I had excessive weight gain and my hands and feet swelled. That doesnt happen to everyone.. you might go online there are several companies that will help you pay for your meds.

Actually there is no weight gain! That is one of the benefits of this medication b/c it is like cymbalta (sp?). For me there were some side effects, but they subsided after a week or so. I got a lot of hot flashes, but they are gone now.

Is it normal to lose weight when u have fibromyalgia in Sept when i started haveing this pain i lost like 45 pounds in 2 months ..when i have this pain i fill sick to my stomach i heard of people gaining weight but not losing this much in a short time i went from 165 pounds now i weight 115pds..just wanted to know if this was normal for having FM ..

I lost alot of weight since march 2008 until now, were the weight is without increased diet piling back onn rapidly. I feel ok at present I have no tremors heart racing nothing atall. Sometimes im like a bear with a saw head but other than that i feel well. I have not taken any medication for my graves because of fear of gaining weight , Please can you answer why my weight has increased without any meds???? the doc prescribed me to Carbimizole. If i take carbimizole will i lose the weight.

Since you have chronic pain your likely not getting around physically as much as you were before which can lead to the weight gain. The weight gain can cause an increase in your pain because your bones are having to bear that load. Also some antidepressants can cause weight gain as a side effect. I'm unsure about lyrica. I too take neurontin as well as a narcotic pain med called Norco. I find that neurontin helps with my pain almost as much as the norco.

Zispin and Remeron are both brand names of mirtazapine. It is an anti-depressant , but works a little differently than the SSRIs. I was taking Remeron for about a year, but it wasn't working so well and it caused massive weight gain. Mirtazapine (Zispin) makes Paxil look like a diet pill. Just my opinion, but there are much more effective antidepressant on the market that do not cause this massive weight gain.

Hello, I've had a fairly positive experience with all anti-seizure medications I've tried reducing pain in regards to my Fibromyalgia. I think the reason comes with my belief that there is a malfunction in the central nervous system for some reason. At this time we don't know what the cause is- many new scientists believe it may be neuro-immune. Anyhow, I've responded very well to medications like Neurontin, Lyrica and Topamax.

I am 54 yrs old now and I weight 200lbs, am on Lithium 900mg and Seroquel 300 mg and Paxil. All my doctors have denied weight gain from the medications and I do not understand that. Hi im desperatly in need to know of a good bipolar medication that doesnt make me gain weight, I was on olanzapine and I gained loads, then they put me on abilifyand I got 13 of the uncommon side effects, then they put me on sulpiride but they are similar to olanzapine,and all the time ive been on lamotrigine, but they dont seem to work as well on their own. At the mo ive stopped taking my meds and finding it hard, can anyone help please?

Why is it everything they give you for this makes you gain weight yet they tell you to lose the weight to help relief stress from your muscles. Go figure.

i called my dr back and said put me back on the gabapentin as i can tolerate it. i am concerned though about the weight gain.

Whether a craving for sweets is a side-effect, I doubt the drug maker would admit it. But I did gain weight. And weight gain is my worst enemy. I have fought being over-weight most of the last 40 years. Neurontin works well for some people, so do anti-seizure medications. It is thought that msucle spasms and nerve pain are like having mini-muscle seizures. At least that is what I was told by a Neuro at UVA in Virginia. I now take Baclofen for muscle spasms at night before I go to bed.

s taken Prozac and gained weight have they changed to a different medication because of it and which one? Did it do the job it needs to without the weight gain of Prozac?

I tried Buspar, and it was pretty worthless. I've heard some people say that it really helped them, but most studies show otherwise.

Hello, I've been on paxil for about 4 yrs,for my anxiety and depression, it has worked wonders for my anxiety, but lately my depression has got worse and just feeling uneasy,unmotivated. I go to my doctors in a couple of days and want to try a new depression med,but am afraid my anxiety will come back. What meds should I try. Ive been on Lexapro twice first time it worked quit it and started it again when I had my first anxiety issues,didn't work for my depression.

Find out more information and speak to your psychiatrist about starting a medication that would have less of an effect of weight gain and be better on depression. If you still have a problem with alcohol abuse go to a dual recovery group for a person with a psychiatric disability and an alcohol abuse issue as that can set back anyone's recovery. Once you start on medication, talk therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy is helpful in addition.

It is known that opiates do cause sugar cravings and weight gain. A different medication may help though. I know that I struggle with my weight and the sugar cravings too. I use to take Elavil for my Fibro and it was horrible as all I wanted was sweets. I suggest speaking to your Doctor about trying something different. I have a strict rule for myself and that is no sweets after 4pm and I try and have dinner before 5pm and exercise before bed.

Are you underweight or have an eating disorder? If not, ask your doctor if there's another medication that will do the same thing, without causing weight gain. If he refuses to consider anything else, you might want to look into getting a different doctor.

I tried Lyrica and it worked very well for the pain that I experience, plus it really helped me sleep better, but it made me gain weight and I got very lazy and tired. I quit taking it due to the side effects and the cost. The first week I started taking Lyrica, I backed my car out of my garage before the garage door was totally up because I was totally spaced out in the morning. I broke the antennae off the top of my car. Boy my husband was upset!
