735919 tn?1236448149 I took Lyrica for my fibro although it really helped with the pain, I had excessive weight gain and my hands and feet swelled. That doesnt happen to everyone.. you might go online there are several companies that will help you pay for your meds.
Avatar n tn Lyrica, the first FDA-approved drug to treat fibromyalgia, has been associated with severe allergic reactions that can cause angioedema — swelling of the throat, head, and neck, resulting in airway compromise. Furthermore, Lyrica can promote weight gain, sleepiness, dry mouth, and brain fog. Finally all seizure medications, including Lyrica, can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. When you look at the adverse effects of Lyrica, I think it should be used as a last resort.
Avatar m tn One reason many conventional doctors do not think fibromyalgia is a “real” condition is that no specific medication is effective for treating this illness. Some medications do help lower the symptoms of fibromyalgia. These include analgesics such as Tylenol and Motrin. Some doctors will prescribe antidepressant medications, although there are many adverse effects. Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica.
Avatar n tn I have always been a size 8 until now, but the tablets help with my sleep. Does anyone know of an antidepressant that has the sedditive effect but without the weight gain. I have an appointment next week and want to change tablets.
1257808 tn?1322765815 Thyroid does have a huge affect on your metabolism rate and thus your weight. Too high and you can loose weight, too low and you'll gain weight. Thyroid is also associated with mood including depression and anxiety. Some people can get off of or have no need to take anti-depressants or anti anxiety medicine simply by getting their Thyroid levels balanced correctly. However there are other hormones in your body as well. They all have to be in proper balance and that can be tricky.
Avatar n tn I thought all my weight gain worries were over and now when I did research I found out that hypers can also gain weight. Of course, I am one of those that are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Just shoot me now, lol. By the way, now I'm on a mission to have my meds perfect so I don't gain weight, good luck to me right? Sorry to ramble on.......the moral to this story is that not everyone goes by the book so that means that we all need something different.
Avatar n tn high blood pressure (weight gain does not help this), high cholesterol, osteoarthritis in my knees and feet, hypothyroid (medication did not stop the weight gain), and now fibromyalgia. I feel terrible, achy and tired and in pain every day. I could care less about sex. Everything is very dry and it's uncomfortable, plus the extra weight. I'm depressed. I don't feel good and I don't look good. I wish I had some answers. Doctors look at me like I'm just a lazy, fat old lady.
Avatar n tn I had a hyster in 05. Same situation as all of you. I have gained 23lbs after working at Weight Watchers and losing 52lbs in 03. I have started researching weight gain and hysterectomies just yesterday. I am a Christian, believer in JC.
458379 tn?1206281707 I suppose if we are left without much good medical help, our condition worsens. There're medication that will make you gain weight, besides hormonal problems. I try to do strethcing whenever my physical conditon allows. Some days, the fatigue is sooo bad, I can barely move and will myself to stretch. In general, I do find stretching help ease up the pains. Some doctors though, suggests that FMS, ME/CFS tend to have abnormal cortisol and thyroid hormones..... Kit.
Avatar n tn Do they make me hungry therefore you eat more and gain. Or do you just gain weight without changing any eating habits? Same thing with losing. I am way too scared to gain weight right now. The pharmacist said there is no weight-gain side-effect but everywhere I look on the internet says otherwise.
554442 tn?1221238825 It's a common misconception that fibromyalgia is an inflammatory or rheumatological condition, but it is not. While researchers still have many theories about the mechanisms behind fibromyalgia, many of them now believe the condition is more neurologically based. Aleve (naproxen sodium) and ibuprofen-based drugs (Motrin, Advil) are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and are most effective against pain that accompanies inflammation.
541465 tn?1219431486 Female 47 on 30 mgs. Yes I gained weight. Most people I see start on this drug gain weight but there a few that don't. Weight can be managed with the usual diet and exercise.

Avatar f tn Sometimes doctors do not do the right thyroid tests for people with fibromyalgia, I also was told that if you are having trouble losing weight and have gained weight without knowing why, sometimes that is because thyroid levels are low. So I encourage you to be very sure that your thyroid levels are not too low. That really creates huge problems. Now that I have been taking thyroid medication for several months and all these supplements, I feel much better.
Avatar f tn I can't help much with the throat pain, because I've been experiencing the same thing without knowing the exact cause for it. I have a doctor appointment to see about that in a couple of weeks.
Avatar n tn I have been on Welbutrin for almost 4 months now and have noticed weight gain of about 8-10 pounds and I'm not eating anymore than I use to. I'm wondering if the 'weight-gain'/'weight-loss' issue is affected by whether or not people 'need' to lose weight before they start taking it. I consider myself to have a fairly high metabolism and I can maintain my weight quite easily. I know what causes me to gain weight and what I need to do to lose it.
358486 tn?1294779988 I AM ALSO GO TO A PAIN MANAGEMENT DR FOR MY FIBRO ALONG WITH A LONG LIST OF OTHER ISSUES THAT CAUSE ME TO HAVE CHRONIC PAIN EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY & NIGHT WITH HARDLY ANY RELIEF. I AM ON MS CONTIN & I HAVE OXYCODONE IR FOR MY BREAKTHROUGH PAIN & I ALSO HAVE FLEXERIL THAT I CAN TAKE TO HELP RELAX MY MUSCLES.
Avatar n tn Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated. Any ideas as to how long I need to endure this or ideas for correcting my metabolism? Thanks.
1577364 tn?1296693384 I also found out recently that I have obstructive sleep apnea, which only serves to complicate matters even further. I was on Lyrica, but have stopped taking it because of the weight gain. As of now, I am taking Klonopin and and benadryl at bedtime so I can sleep. I am going to ask my primary to help me get off the Klonopin because I just don't like being drug dependent.
Avatar n tn These are not all that difficult to diagnose, but may not be on the mind of an internist who may just think women gain weight from emotional stuff (ie, eating to calm feelings a la Oprah). Another thing to check is medication side effects. I'm not certain about weight gain, but a pregnant looking belly can be from uterine fibroids. A big belly from fluid trapped like in one post is often from liver problem and can be very serious.
Avatar f tn I agree with the Neurontin as a better choice- it's cheaper too. Lyricia made me gain weight, but everyone's different, so it may help you. As for treating flare ups- rest. That's the only thing that you can do. There is no pill that will take away the flare. You really have to track your symptoms and when you do have a flare, write down what you did, what you ate, or asy stresses, etc. That way you can do much to try to control the flare triggers.
Avatar n tn Spzyq2, Are you SVR post tx and did the symptoms of fatigue and pain become worse post tx ? If your able to exercise and work out than I highly recomend it for the pain.. Strength training really helps to strengthen those muscles around the big joints like knees, hips, shoulders, back etc....It only took about a month of daily exercise for some great results, I had no pain after the second month........
2010625 tn?1329375656 Is it common to have a bad reaction or get bad side effects at the lowest doses of almost every psychotropic medication tried? I have tried 6 different antipsychotics, I had bad side effects at the lowest dose, and can't take them. 4 SSRI antidepressants, bad side effects at lowest dose, can't take them. I also can't take Welbutrin, Depokote, Effexor, vistaril, This can't be normal right?

665881 tn?1248930597 All over bruised feeling, anxiety and depression (especially pre menstral) insomnia, exausted demotivation, tingling, numbness, lingering pain after being touched, weight gain, hives on face and neck, clumsy dropping everything, inability to exercise without amplifying all of the above....
1852058 tn?1320162300 Worst is the fatigue that reduces me to a disabled wreck, unable to get from sofa to kitchen without holding on to the walls for stability, rejecting the use of a disability scooter is my problem at the moment and holding on to the hope that this is just something that will go away... denial i think they call it. BUT IS IT.... can it go away if I am strong enough?
1047234 tn?1253547296 but I also take Lyrica, which has caused weight gain, but it helps a lot, and I take 4 Hydrocodone, of 10-325 a day plus I have a script of 1 Oxycodone a day, and I just take double on the days I need and none on the days I need it, but the MS Contin, which is time released does help, which I have had in the past, but because I changed dr.s started all over, with the lowest dose. Anyway, I think there has to be a virus, or bacteria, or some kind of autoimmune disorder that causes this.
Avatar n tn the main thing I find myself struggling with is the restless sleep, that I need to focus on. to those experiencing weight gain, anxiety, etc... you need to pamper your body right now. give it plenty of water, eats lots of fruit and veggies - you need a clean/healthy diet and if you can, start exercising. Pop a b-12, multi, calcium supplement everyday. I started adding/eating more fiber just to help with digestion. I found a great vitamin for hair/skin and nails.
