Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia medication for life

fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn I know someone who has been on OxyContin for about 9 years for Fibromyalgia pain. This person gets about 90 OxyContin a month. I personally think that is outrageous. I really wish the FDA would get rid of this drug completely.
939964 tn?1288017024 I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, acid reflux, diverticulosis, diabetes and fibromyalgia syndrome. Had FMS for a very long time, probably most of my adult life. Diagnosed with hypothyroid condition about 12 years ago, and with diabetes was about 3 years ago. I am on Armour Thyroid, 2 gr. per day; Aciphex 1 a day, both in the morning; then I take Metformin at night, started with 1, then 2, and now am being bumped to 3 a day. I have a very difficult time sleeping through the night.

I never used to be ill much at all, even though at 16 I was told I had Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now, I have those plus, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, IBS, Restless leg syndrome. Avatar f tn Hey there I'm new to this site, but I've had fibromyalgia for about 5-6 yrs. It took my Dr about three mnths to get a diagnosis. Since there is no diagnostic test for it. Its a process of elimination. I know your frustration. Your insurance sounds whacked! Please tell its not an HMO ?! Lyrica is not an experimantal drug for this treatment the FDA approved it for the treatment of fibromyalgia. I took it for a few yrs.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, the pain police (DEA, FDA) are forcing quite a few changes via regulations and outright fear for doctors of losing their practice. There are studies cited that opioid treatments for Fibromyalgia isn't effective. I happen to disagree but what do we know, we're just the people who are suffering. I'm not dealing with Fibromyalgia myself, but the same pressure is being applied across the board for any non-malignant pain treatment that is narcotic in nature.
Avatar f tn My doctor in Kingston ten years ago, felt strongly that I have Fibro, because I have had TWO recent tests for arthritis, but it came up clear from that. I was on medication over ten years ago for depression, but I am off those now. I will leave that with you for now. Thankyou SO MUCH, you gave a great response, and I will search for the eye test.
Avatar f tn org/posts/Fibromyalgia---CFS/Going-to-try-Savella/show/976237 Good luck and I hope the medication does great for you!
1353650 tn?1429463374 I have been suffering with CFS then Fibromyalgia for almost 3 years. I was finally diagnosed with insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is where you produce enough insulin but it doesn't work to break down the glucose in your blood. Therefore you develop sore muscles, brain fog, fatigue and many more. My doctor also discovered that I have mild inflammation of the thyroid (developed 2 1/2 years after the fibro.) with normal blood levels.
Avatar f tn I am going to because the research for the medication will be over in June and I will not be on any medication, they alter you inside, not my style.
Avatar f tn I thought it was horrible. Took 4 7.5 hydrocodone but was on it for over 12 years since getting cfids fibromyalgia. Still have that.
1300043 tn?1272812819 Personally there is no pain medication that has ever worked for me including Codeine which has worked for other pain, like broken arm or headache. However I did take Paxil back in the 90s for something else and I noticed my FMS pain went away. However though people suspected I had FMS eg: physiotherapist, etc., there was no doctor that even believed it existed. As mentioned pressure points seems to be the discerning factor in getting a diagnosis and history. Best of luck.
1130095 tn?1267369259 Ask your doctor about Topamax. I had daily headaches for years and this is the only thing that has helped. What most likely is happening is your pain is causing the headaches but the pills or some of the pills your taking are causing "rebound headaches" a lot of pain medications do that. I didn't know that for years and I was suffering. Diclofenac comes in a topical form, if that helps see if the doctor will give it to you that way.
1577364 tn?1296689784 I was diagnosed with fibro and degenerative arthritis 6 yrs ago. I also found out recently that I have obstructive sleep apnea, which only serves to complicate matters even further. I was on Lyrica, but have stopped taking it because of the weight gain. As of now, I am taking Klonopin and and benadryl at bedtime so I can sleep. I am going to ask my primary to help me get off the Klonopin because I just don't like being drug dependent.
Avatar m tn Hello all! I've been on medication since I was young for anxiety and depression. I have been on 2mg of Xanax, and then 2mg of Klonopin. I am now on 1.5mg. I find that it's a life saving medication. I have no problem taking pills and supplements. I'm just curious if other's don't mind taking benzo's for a long period of time, or perhaps (in my case) the rest of my life. Anyone else in my situation, or can relate? I just have to make sure never to go withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have had fibro for 9 years, it started with my last pregnancy. As you all know some day s are better than others. I was wondering what types of meds others have tried. I take Neruonton and vicodine. I want to get of the last one if I can. I can't take lyrica. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Lorazepam for anxiety last Dec.-June. (2 mg a day for 4 of 6 mo.) I became addicted & could not taper off it myself so went to a detox center. They gave me phenobarbital since I reacted to the other benzos, plus Seroquel, Vistaril, & Trazadone. The detox was for 10 days and it was almost 3 months ago. I have been experiencing muscle twitching the past few weeks all over my body & some eye blinking.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your fibromyalgia and the myriad problems it's causing you. I can relate to the trying of every known medication under the sun. My only advice is to maybe find a good physiatrist (not psychiatrist), as they can deal not only with your fibromyalgia, but try to treat the WHOLE person, hopefully improving your quality of life substantially.
Avatar m tn Hi, I live in a family plagued by fibromyalgia. My mother, sister, daughter, and myself. I've learned several things over the years, I hope maybe to help. I am on a fentanyl patch, although it is not prescribed for my fibro. I have other spinal issues that warrant the pain medication. 12.5 mcg I believe is the lowest dose, and I would maybe try skipping a day inbetween patches, to have a break for your system from narcotics. This is what I do.
659608 tn?1318289366 Dr. Park and members: What is your recomendation and feelings on using Medicinal Marijuana for Fibromyalgia symptoms? There are so many conflicting articles, it's hard to know the real truth, so a doctor's view point wuld be very helpful.
Avatar f tn Sleep is essential especially for fibromyalgia or any type of pain. If you can get 6 hours minimum you can better deal with the pain. Have you ever had a sleep study? I requested one and I have sleep apnea. I also take trazadone. It is an older sleep medication that is taken at bedtime. You and your doctor can decide if taking something would help. To me your top list would be your headaches, not sleeping and pain.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear about your pain. My father in law is on Tramadol 50mg 3 times a day and it use to work for him and now it don't. I think his body is just use to it and it won't work anymore. I am trying to talk him into getting on a new pain med cause I really hate to see him in pain all the time (like me). I have alot of face pain due to some bad dentist working on me and didn't know what they was doing. So I get to live with the pain for the rest of my life.
