Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
Avatar f tn I've been on Cymbalta since it first came out. I take it for my depression and fibromyalgia. I have not had any side effects other than weird abnormal dreams when I was prescribed 60mg. My doctor reduced my dose to 30mg and it works great. I know another drug now being prescribed is Lyrica (gabepentin) for chronic pain. It is now FDA approved to treat Fibromyalgia.
Business woman1 I have been on the medication for 2 1/2 years (for Fibromyalgia, depression and panic disorder). After doing a lot of research, I decided to wean myself off of the medication (yes, I did see my doctor first, but she was no help at all...and again, I did my research). After going down 20 mg for two days, I was a basket case.
Avatar m tn I had insomnia and fibromyalgia. My doctor put me on Cymbalta. He said it would help me with sleep and pain. It was 2 weeks of hell, no sleep and constant pain and I wanted to kill myself!!! I was not depressed and have no history of depression. my doctor switched me to amitriptyline. It helps with sleep but not pain, I would never recommend Cymbalta to anyone !
Avatar f tn Actually cymbalta is not just an antidepressant. Cymbalta works to relieve fibromyalgia pain is not entirely understood but it's thought that by increasing the activity of two naturally-occurring substances -- serotonin and norepinephrine -- it suppresses pain. I have been on Cymbalta for several years and know that it does help. I was unable for a period of four or five months to obtain cymbalta so ran out.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried or currently use Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia. My primary care Dr. wants me to try it for my pain. I have glaucoma, it's under controlled but im still afraid to take it because of the side affects. Im in so much pain most of the time. I also have non hodgkns lymphoma and sarcoidosis and both are in remission , and I pray I can get some kind of relief. I really would like to hear some input on this.
1023657 tn?1251844941 Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly. Other drugs that are usually combined with these are- Flexeril (muscle relaxant, not only decreases muscle pain but also improves sleep), Mirapex (used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease).
Avatar f tn I have to switch my meds. I have depression and fibromyalgia and am on Cymbalta, but it doesn't seem to be helping me.....my doctor suggested Prozac since it is known to help fatigue better than the other antidepressants (supposedly). Thank you.

Avatar f tn I have been taking Cymbalta for about a week now for fibromyalgia and they say it takes a month to start feeling the effects but they're wrong I started feeling at the second day I took it it has done wonders for me but the only side effect that I do have is no appetite. I have also noticed that I am losing some weight I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it when I put my clothes on. Has anybody lost a significant amount of weight while taking this medication?
Panda I have been on Cymbalta (60 mg) for over two years for treatment of fibromyalgia/depression/anxiety. I recently went down to 40 mg, and after two days was a basket case. Constant brain zaps, a feeling like my entire brain was bruised, severe body aches, increased anxiety and agitation/aggression (which to me was the most frightening). I went back up to 60 mg. Four days later, I am still experiencing the bruised brain feeling and anxiety.
Avatar f tn Will medical marijuana help me with early stages of scolosis, fibromalgia and chronic lower back pain that cymbalta and 20 mg of vicodin has not helped for the past 2 and 1/2 years? I also have chronic athritis in both hands.
Avatar n tn I do have diabetic neuropathy now, but not back then, also now a herniated L5, and on blood pressure medication AND have bout with fibromyalgia pain. 7450908 tn?1390996321 I was diagnosed with fibro about 18 years ago. I've been using Lyrica & was using Cymbalta for a while as well. I quit using the antidepressant because it seemed to make the depression worse. I'm on low income & I'm telling this medication is getting so expensive that I have a hard time affording to buy just a months worth at taking one a day. At certain times of the year I have to take more than one a day. Is there a more natural way to deal with fibro?
324184 tn?1308076203 m on my second treatment of PPD and fibromyalgia with Cymbalta. The secret to using this medication effectively is sunlight exposure. The Cymbalta works better on the fibromyalgia pain and depression on sunny days and not so well on rainy overcast days. So, what I do, is got to a tanning salon on the rainy days, no more than 2x a week. I actually get almost 3 days of pain and depression relief from the tanning salon, where as one day of regular sunlight doesn't last thru the night.

1187243 tn?1268397011 There are three medications that are FDA approved in the US to treat Fibromyalgia, Cymbalta, Lyrica and Savella; however, most people are on unique medication management plans due to differing needs. Many people, especially those with overlapping conditions need to treat those conditions as well. Additionally, some people do not tolerate the approved medications or they just plain do not work for others.
Avatar n tn meds that a lot of doctors tend to try - Cymbalta. How do you find the Cymbalta working for you? Have you noticed it has helped with your pain at all? Have you tried Savella? That also is a "newer" med that is used for fibro. Do you also take a muscle relaxer? If not, you may want to ask your doctor about adding one to your med regime. While I don't find that they help alone, I have found that they can be helpful when added to my other meds. How is your sleep?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My primary Dr prescribed Cymbalta 60mg and 1800 mg Gabapentin. I was still having debilitating pain after 5months. I recently saw another doctor who for once actually listened to me and took time with me which I did like and he did not write me off as someone just seeking medication. I have never been one to take a pill to fix ailments including for a headache. This new dr. Prescribed hydrocodone 7.
4074293 tn?1351896693 Talking to the doctor next week to try something else. I also tried cymbalta and cymbalta with the lyrica and they did not help the pain. The cymbalta was making me moody and irritable and i just wanted to be left alone.
Avatar n tn Fibro is usually treated both with natural ways and possible medication like Lyrica, Neurontin, Savella, or Cymbalta. Sometimes they will prescribe a muscle relaxer if needed for muscle spasms. But most important is daily exercise....it's crucial to stay moving. The more people lay around or sleep the worse their symptoms. Eating well, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, limit sugars, salts, simple carbs...
Avatar f tn Actually there is no weight gain! That is one of the benefits of this medication b/c it is like cymbalta (sp?). For me there were some side effects, but they subsided after a week or so. I got a lot of hot flashes, but they are gone now.
