Fibromyalgia medication cymbalta

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia medication cymbalta

Avatar f tn I go back to the Dr on the 14th and am considering asking him about Cymbalta. Has anyone taken this? What are the side affects? I read it will help with the pain and the anxiety. I have anxiety attacks when I am in a lot of pain. Since they went hand-in-hand I thought maybe this would be a good one to try. But I wanted opinions first. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Actually cymbalta is not just an antidepressant. Cymbalta works to relieve fibromyalgia pain is not entirely understood but it's thought that by increasing the activity of two naturally-occurring substances -- serotonin and norepinephrine -- it suppresses pain. I have been on Cymbalta for several years and know that it does help. I was unable for a period of four or five months to obtain cymbalta so ran out.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried or currently use Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia. My primary care Dr. wants me to try it for my pain. I have glaucoma, it's under controlled but im still afraid to take it because of the side affects. Im in so much pain most of the time. I also have non hodgkns lymphoma and sarcoidosis and both are in remission , and I pray I can get some kind of relief. I really would like to hear some input on this.
1627868 tn?1333889942 are you particularly sensitive to medication in general? i know i am, so i chose to avoid cymbalta. i did take nortryptiline to help with my neuropathy, and it didn't do much to me except knock me out but good at night which wasn't such a bad thing. i often have a lot of trouble staying asleep. lyrica made me so groggy and spaced out which wasn't acceptable since i have a 5-year-old and have to be somewhat coherent most of the time. maybe some others will chime in here.
Avatar f tn I found out I have fibromyalgia. The Dr put me on cymbalta 60 mg. I went back and told him I was still hurting and felt drepress more, crying. He upped the cymbalta to 120 mg a day. I fell sad and dont feel like my self. I am still hurting but not as bad. Can someone help me please!
Avatar m tn Hey guys, I plan to start Cymbalta (30mgs) tomorrow morning per my pdoc. I have had some very bad experiences with some of the other SSRI's (Zoloft, paxil, celexa, lexapro) as far as sleep/sexual/cognitive disturbances but I feel like some prescription help may (still) be warranted. I just wanted to see what anyone had to say regarding their experiences with this drug.
233622 tn?1279338505 Hello LA, Thanks so much for the response to my rant yesterday. I feel better today. Still have the double vision but like always my friends here cheer me up. To answer your question. I was on Cymbalta for about 6 weeks. I asked to be taken off of it. It was making me feel strange. Very "short Fused", irritated, grouchy. I started taking Effexor when this started and I went back to it just a higher dose now. I have seen where people here have got on it and it has helped very well.
177382 tn?1253044740 Cymbalta is currently being prescribed like crazy for fibromyalgia because it has been approved for the treatment of fibro. My doctor wrote me a prescription for it, but I have not tried it because I have panic-type symptoms on occasion. I have read that it may not be good if you experience panic attacks, but if your issues are pain and depression without panic, it may help. Cymbalta works differently than paxil, so you may not experience the same issues.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 40mg once daily for about 6 months, I have fibromyalgia, I was kind of steered/pressured towards Cymbalta, as according to my last Doctor the only good form of anti-depressant recommended for fibromyalgia. Funny thing was I didn't even ask for the change to my meds, I was doing good on my current regiment. Well after months of no depression relief on Cymbalta, and at the Doctor's suggestion that I see a therapist first, I asked to go back to Prozac, because, well it worked.
735919 tn?1236448149 I am 30yrs old and i am taking Cymbalta for my Fibromyalgia pain but i have to stop it do to my insurance. It works REALLY well for my pain. I wanted to know if anyone is taking Lyrica for their pain and if it works.
Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
7450908 tn?1390999921 I was diagnosed with fibro about 18 years ago. I've been using Lyrica & was using Cymbalta for a while as well. I quit using the antidepressant because it seemed to make the depression worse. I'm on low income & I'm telling this medication is getting so expensive that I have a hard time affording to buy just a months worth at taking one a day. At certain times of the year I have to take more than one a day. Is there a more natural way to deal with fibro?
Avatar m tn Are you seeing a Rheumatologist for your Fibromyalgia? I am seeing a Rheumatologist for my severe Fibromyalgia. It is always best to check with your Doctor. Keep me posted....Thanks!
710094 tn?1229312306 Also try to avoid wheat completely for few days and see it helps (wheat gluten allergy) , Take lots of rest , I am taking cymbalta and it has helped me with pain and brain function . Never loose hope , we are in this together , you will feel better soon . I was reading reviews of a product called IMMUNE26 made from egg powder . It boosts your immune system and has helped many with chronic fatigue and fibro pain . Do a google search . Please try the product .
Avatar f tn I am going to because the research for the medication will be over in June and I will not be on any medication, they alter you inside, not my style.
639385 tn?1266214505 After a couple years of being on this med, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Then, Cymbalta was introduced as a med for people with Fibro. Well, if it helps with reducing the effects of pain, I am much worse than I thought. I have been on 120mg for several years, and I am now out of work with pain/Fibromyalgia and depression that just won't lift. I was reduced from 120mg to 90mg to try and slowly get me off of the Cymbalta. Within a few days, it threw me into an uncontrollable crying mess.
Avatar m tn Duloxetine is the generic for is used for anxiety and is also used for nerve pain in patients with arthritis and fibromyalgia ,etc....hope this helps you out some....
Avatar n tn If it becomes bothersome, I would defenitly talk with your Doc about changing the Medication. Other than depression, Cymbalta is more used in treating Fibromyalgia or Diabetic Neuropothy pain. It is not so widely used in chronic pain such as yours. The host of side effects it comes with is also a concern to me..Some of which include suicidal tendencys. Be sure to read your medication guide and I would discuss the headaches and ringing of the ears right after the Holiday.
3202069 tn?1345408082 I have had fibromyalgia for about 8 yrs maybe longer. It is very hard to deal with. My legs bother me alot. I am on pain meds and eating certain foods make it worse. I go to an Integrative doctor Steve Windley. I would say that Diet and exercise help the most. Stretching is very important. My doctor told me that alot of Carbs cause the body to be inflamed. I also know that soda causes me to hurt all over. I get tightness in my legs and calves. I used to have alot of shoulder pain.
Panda I have been on Cymbalta (60 mg) for over two years for treatment of fibromyalgia/depression/anxiety. I recently went down to 40 mg, and after two days was a basket case. Constant brain zaps, a feeling like my entire brain was bruised, severe body aches, increased anxiety and agitation/aggression (which to me was the most frightening). I went back up to 60 mg. Four days later, I am still experiencing the bruised brain feeling and anxiety.
Avatar f tn I am 14 and have fibromyalgia and JIA and epilepsy I was put on Cymbalta to help my Fibromyalgia and it seemed to help for awhile but now just recently I have been having complete incontinence with my bladder and bowls and my body has been retaining urine its been going on for 4 weeks nonstop and I am now in depend dippers and that's really rough.
Avatar f tn He's going to take over my acupuncture care, which I've had good success with and try some injections. He started me on Cymbalta. It's a new antidepressant that has had good results in chronic pain management, especially in women. Has anyone taken it? Any insight into how it works or doesn't work? Any side effects? I'd be curious if anyone has any thoughts on the medication. I'm starting at 30mg a day for 7 days and then increasing to 60mg per day. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I take Lunesta 3 mg at night for sleep (have for several years -- what a wonderful sleep medication THAT is for me). I take the Cymbalta first thing in the morning. The odd thing is, my anxiety is also reduced. My husband has commented that he enjoys actually sitting on the sofa with me -- I usually have to be DOING something -- playing a game on the computer or SOMETHING. But not with Cymbalta.
Girl Does anyone here have fibromyalgia and if so, what have you do to calm a fibro flare? I haven't had a flare this bad in at least 10 years. I am taking hydrocodone rx'd by my physician and but it's taking a while to get to that point of being under control. I've been on venlafaxine for nearly 2 years and perhaps it's time to change medication. Would just appreciate any info you can give. Happy New Years!
Avatar f tn I've been on Cymbalta since it first came out. I take it for my depression and fibromyalgia. I have not had any side effects other than weird abnormal dreams when I was prescribed 60mg. My doctor reduced my dose to 30mg and it works great. I know another drug now being prescribed is Lyrica (gabepentin) for chronic pain. It is now FDA approved to treat Fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn I am a 58yr old male and suffer from DMII, Hashimotos, Neuropathy and Fibromyalgia. Recently I was put on Cymbalta. Although is was difficult being an SSRI I noticed that the symptoms of the neuropathy and fybromyalgia mostly dissappeared. This especially noticable during the 6 weks after I stopped taking it. I stopped because from the second day I developed urinary retention. I was geting up every hour during the night. My PSA is 1.3 and urine tests were negative.
881463 tn?1245349249 People don't 'feel different' on the medication, but symptoms like panic attacks tend to decrease. Cymbalta supposedly has effects that reduce chronic pain, but it might just be that the company came up with studies that captured an effect that all of those medications have. I agree with your doc-- I think you have had enough testing. it is time to move forward and enjoy your health.
Avatar f tn This is WITHDRAWAL from the medication. I don't care if technically it is not withdrawal because you can't get addicted to Cymbalta but I tell ya I sure feel like going back on it to make the suffering stop. In my eyes, that is being addicted. Unlike those who withdraw from alcohol, crack and whatever else - these people get to go to these weekly spas to recover in. I get to work, go to school, take care of my daughter, take care of my home and hope to hell that I can survive.
