Avatar n tn Hey Sandra! Welcome to the forum! The short answer is yes very likely . Stress induces muscle spasms-physical and emotional stress- Pain causes the body to go into a "bad posture" position. Should this take place multiple times a day, it creates the perfect conditions for muscle spasms.
Avatar f tn Does anyone diagonased with lupus suffer from crazy muscle spasms and twitching.
Avatar n tn My mother had a total knee replacement 4 weeks ago. A day or two after surgery she began having unexplicable spasms behind the knee. The spasms only seemed to happen when she would try to go to sleep. These spasms can and do occur once or twice a minute for up to 6 hours almost every night. No medicine seems to help and the surgeon doesn't seem to think it is directly related to the surgery. My mother has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia for several years now.

Avatar m tn Last year, my 9 year old son had tremendous nerve pain behind his left knee and suffered from muscles spasms in his arms and legs...After 4 months, they disappeared and he had PT...Now the muscles spasms have returned...He complained of shivering, but not being cold on Sunday in his arms...Then his legs started doing the same...Now they continually spasm causing his legs to become weak and he cannot walk unless he has help...Currently undergoing an eeg, but so far nothing is showing up...
3795221 tn?1348163075 I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My family doctor referred me to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me. I have had a lot of pain that travels in my body. I have a constant migraine and back pain. My hands and feet are numb with bursts of electricity. The Rheumatologist prescribed Flexeril, Ambien and told me to go to a psychiatrist. I made an appointment with a psychiatrist a week ago and have since researched him online.

Avatar f tn I thought that I fell directly down on the knee, I have a 'goose egg' that feels like a knot and is very tender with red dots and a light greenish bruise on the side, left, lower portion of my knee, away from the kneecap. There is some pain and aching when I am not using, I can fully bend and straighten the knee. I have some pain when walking so I have a slight limp and it is more comfortable to lean on the right side of my foot while walking.
Avatar f tn And do the knot every go away if keeps me up at night because I ache and my muscle get so tight my hip hurt (exspecailly if I walk alot) sometimes it makes my knee hurt and my neck hurt all the time. I could sure use so help on what to do?????
Avatar n tn For almost 1 year now I have had horrible muscle spasms in my abs when I do sit ups. I do a lot of running and other exercise and my abs never tighten up like that any other time other than doing sit ups. Everytime I try to do sit ups I can get through about 10 then the upper right abdominal area completely tightens and feels like a really really bad charlie horse. I'm just looking for any advice or experience with this that anyone can give me.
Avatar f tn I had total knee replacement surgery 10 weeks ago and am still experiencing significant knee pain, consisting of stiffness and alot of pain in the knee. The pain wakes me up at night. I am going to Physical Therapy 3 times a week and I still do alot of therapy myself at home. I walk, and try to go about my daily routine, but the pain is still there,, some days worse than others. I also had a three disc fusion done in January,, 2007.
1100837 tn?1267672275 30 in the morning, I awoke to (what I think was) a muscle spasm in my right inner thigh near the knee which quickly moved toward the groin area. As I layed across the bed, I became immobilized by the excruciating pain. I then began to sweat profusely, feel nauseated, heart racing and felt lightheaded as though I was losing consciousness. Apparently, I did because when I opened my eyes, I found myself on the floor.
Avatar f tn You were all so kind in replying to my last post so I thought I'd come and give a little update. Jen and Maria, you mentioned fibromyalgia as a possible explanation for some of my symptoms so you might find this interesting. I saw my rheumatologist this past week. I have all sorts of ongoing symptoms so it's always hard to figure out what I want from an appointment with her or any of my other doctors.
Avatar f tn I do not experience any grinding, locking, catching or giving way of the knee. There are no positions that make my knee uncomfortable other then putting my weight on it while kneeling. It feels totally normal otherwise. The pain is as if I knelt on a sharp rock or tack or even as if my bone is splintered. It began a couple of weeks ago while kneeling. I have not tried anything to help the pain other then not kneeling on it. Never had surgery. No hip pain or ankle pain.
358304 tn?1409713092 I don't think you have fibromyalgia. I think you have anxiety, muscle pain, spasms and knots. That's it. And it's not uncommon for people with a history of anxiety to have these symptoms. Do you know what Dr.'s prescribe to people who have fibromyalgia or other pain syndromes? ANTI-DEPRESSANTS. Which is what you don't want to take. Correct? So, since you are extremely healthy, I would just continue to do what makes you feel better.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. We will give you all the required information about Fibromyalgia. The symptoms of fibromyalgia are long term, widespread pain, fatigue, and heightened pain in response to pressure. Other symptoms may include joint stiffness, tingling of the skin, prolonged muscle spasms, weakness in the limbs, nerve pain, functional bowel disturbances and chronic sleep disturbances.
Avatar f tn Since I have had fibromyalgia, though, I have had an unbelievable amount of muscle spasms/cramps/charley horses, whatever you would like to call them. I never really related the bruises to them. I tend to have them when I push myself too hard physically, during flare-ups, and sometimes for no discernible reason.
Avatar n tn drinking plenty of water, eating enough potassium, and stretching before and after exercise is supposed to help avoid cramps." "When you get a charley horse, massages, stretching, warm baths, and ice are all generally recommended (although none are scientifically proven to work). Those who want relief in pill form can try vitamin B12 supplements.
390388 tn?1279639813 I've been charting it lately and have been questioning Fibromyalgia in the last couple of months. The thing is it is not always constant. It may come and last for a couple of months then go away. When it leaves I try to do things around the house that I couldn't do before and then wammo I can't do nothing but suffer with severe pains and spasms again. My lower back and in between my shoulders blades seem to bother me the most.
Avatar m tn I have trouble sleeping and many nights may only get 3-4 hrs of sleep, even with muscle relaxers. My primary physician believes I have fibromyalgia, he sent my to a rheumatologist. The rheumy did not even take a health history! I told him my symptoms which had recently worsened. I was experiencing spasms and twitching in my legs and feet, along with numbness. My toes have a bluish/purple cast to them and are ice cold year round.
Avatar f tn Hi, 11 years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but my symptoms keep evolving and keep coming! I just found in my records that my neurologist wants to rule out MS vs Lupus vs just problems caused by fibromyalgia. I have a + ANA, speckled, High sediment rate high C-reactive protein. I go see my neurologist for follow up next month so I’m making a list of points to keep in mind when investigating. This is my list. * Had food in my mouth but couldn’t make myself swallow.
Avatar n tn I experience pain in my left leg muscle below the knee and above the ankle, mainly the outer part of the leg. It hurts most at night and wake me up constantly. This is not a pain I experience everyday but lately it seems to have gotten worse and happen more frequently. I had test done for blood clot and everything was ok. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few years ago and was wondering if this could possibly be one of the symptoms.

Avatar m tn An interesting series of events led to me being emotionally upset yesterday, which was followed by muscle weakness from my L knee to top of thigh in the evening and continuing today. In the past 3 years I have had some form of Fibromyalgia and Migraines as well. I am also subject to Restless leg syndrome if I have been out walking more than usual. I remember after a car accident 12 years ago, I would get weak at the knees at the sight of a policeman stopping and questioning someone.
Avatar f tn I have been told that the fibromyalgia is not causing the muscle spasms/jerking or the abdominal pain. Effect on me: I have to rely on a walker many days. Sometimes I am unable to walk to the bathroom by myself. The spasms get so severe I end up on the tips of my toes. I have had to withdraw from school, take leave from work, and my husband has been caring for my children. I am being sent to Vanderbilt and any suggestions I can give them would be of tremendous help.
