Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia in males

554442 tn?1221238825 Fibro does not cause joint pain or swelling. The pain from Fibromyalgia is produced in the soft tissues of the body, including the muscles and tendons. Question: Why Don't NSAIDs Work for Fibromyalgia Pain? Why don't pain relievers like Motrin, Advil and Aleve work against the pain of fibromyalgia? Answer: It's a common misconception that fibromyalgia is an inflammatory or rheumatological condition, but it is not.
Avatar n tn Hi Rick, I've had Fibrmyalgia since I was 37 years old. I am now 51. It is a connective tissue disease and can leave your muscles feeling sore and very painful and change your lifestyle completely if gone unchecked and unmanaged. Fibromyalgia has been very difficult to diagnose over the last 20 years. The only clear way to diagnose it right now is to do the "Tender Points" check, but there's a catch here too.
975514 tn?1325001538 Also, i've heard that fibro is less common in males, which might explain why it was not considered for so long in my case. Anyway, thanks again for hosting this forum. It feels better being around others who can appreciate what you're going through because goodness knows, not many people - doctors and family members included- really understand the depth of the pain and how it interferes.
Avatar m tn There has been case studies where a 15 year twelve plus pack a day drinker quits and never feels a thing, and case studies where social drinkers (2 to 4 in males) feels the cessations of withdrawal. This could be the result of stigmatization, or abuse. Yoga seems to help me a lot. According to research I found online, about 15% of those who believe are alcoholics suffer from seizure. Nevertheless, allowing alcohol to get away from you can still be toxic.
Avatar n tn Blood in urine can be due to UTI (ruled out in your case), kidney stone (canbe missed on CT if stone is small, vaginal and cervical infections (in females), prostatits (in males), affection of kidney as in diabetes and hypertension. Hope you can discuss this with your treating doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
1066198 tn?1333312628 nights on rotations with a bunch of other males, who openly and joyfully engage in porn viewing (magazines, DVD's on personal players, going to strip clubs, etc). He said it is always around, and always so "in your face there", it's hard to avoid- but he has also told me that -since then - he usually just turns away or walks away when it's 'in plain view'...
Avatar f tn However, you sound a little young to me for MS (onset in males typically around 30) and the acute stage would last longer than 30 mins with visual involvement as well. Perhaps you have hurt your spine at some point and have a prolapsed/herniated disc (car crash, fall, whiplash etc). This type of problem can cause loss of sensation and even bladder control in sever cases.
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar m tn we don't have a hpv test in males. you don' t have any reason to have blood cultures done. some PP offer type specific herpes igg blood testing but most don't. you will need to ask and find out what your PP clinic offers. Honestly I'd just follow up on this now with your regular provider. You need some basic urine testing done and also have to have kidney stones ruled out too.
Avatar n tn I am 31 yrs old, and male. Both my mother and her sister were taking "BENEDECTIN" in 1977. I and my cousin was diagnosed with enlarged aortic valves with abnormalities, sadly he did not survive a 2nd birthday. As I survived a grocery list of defects began showing. My feet are flat, all 10 toes have fused knuckles (they dont bend), my fingers are increasingly curling down and toward the thumb. I've struggled with fainting, cesures, migrians, and bowel disorders since birth.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed many years ago with fibromyalgia. I have never had the pains in my rib muscles till after I had children but I'm not sure if that just weakened my muscles or if it is just the fibromyalgia getting worse. The bottom line is, I have read a million and one things that it could be and ways to treat it but the only thing that works for me is stretching through it. I might try cutting back my caffiene and drinking more milk.
Avatar n tn Needless to say, doctors are reluctant to perform surgery in the absence of an accepted indication and patients are not interested in surgery when the benefits are explained in the terms. Has your doctor looked for other possible causes e.g. gastroparesis small intestine pathology? Abdominal pain is often a diagnostic dilemna and a multitude of tests may be needed before a diagnosis is made.
Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
Avatar n tn I don't have any symptoms yet, except for my period being early once in a while. I am 44 years old, and have gone, in 2 weeks, from having 44 year old skin to skin of a 60 year old. Could someone please help? I'm very distressed.
Avatar n tn It can be due to sleep apnea, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia,Testosterone deficiency in males, menopause in elderly females,Diabetes, cardiac pathologies, carcinoid syndrome and thyroid abnormality. I feel that a complete clinical examination by a physician and sleep specialist along with thorough investigations to rule out the above possibilities are needed. Without physical examination, diagnosis is tough. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Hello, Your creatinine levels of 0.87 are within the normal limits(0.6 to 1.2 mg/dl in males and 0.5 to 1.1 mg/dl in females).Lipomas are benign tumors of the body. They being responsible for your symptoms are unlikely. I feel that you should get your Hb levels and thyroid levels assessed.Anemias and thyroid diseases can cause persistent fatigue and muscle aches.
769503 tn?1238499921 Hi! The symptoms could be due low testosterone in males, anemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, or due to kidney or liver problems. Another possibility is sleep disturbances (like sleep apnea, imbalance of rapid eye and non rapid eye movement sleep etc.). Your grandson may sleep the customary 7-8 hours and yet feel fatigued. You need sleep studies to rule this out. Other possibilities are chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, low Vit B12, low iron, low calcium, sodium and potassium.
547368 tn?1440545385 however, all of the conditions could easily be medically managed. All but one of the males in the study experienced lowered serum testosterone, a known complication of opioid therapy, which can be controlled by hormone replacement therapy. Notably, there were no neurologic complications including dementia, hyperalgesia, tremor or seizures. Nor were there any liver, kidney, or gastrointestinal complications, except for minor constipation.
Avatar m tn Check it out and post in there! There's alot of very helpful people in that section Good luck and hang in there!
3065262 tn?1342126161 Try saw palmetto for frequent urination 1000mg daily. it is likely that you have benign prostate hyperplasia, common with males in their 40s and up. (Your profile shows male. If female disregard this suggestion. You could have an UTI- urinary tract infection) Have you had any blood work done for deficiencies including tissue analysis for minerals? You may have d3,mg,b12,zinc, and other deficiencies. Has it ever been suggested that you may have Lymes disease?
Avatar n tn Hello everyone. I am a 62 year old male with fibromyalgia. I know, not many guys with this. Anyway, just wanted to check in here as just found this site a few days ago. Kinda wanted to keep in touch and follow along with what might help or not help. I pretty much ache to hurt all the time. Winter seems to be the worst. Feel fairly good in summer heat, but when drops to around 70, the hurt really starts to set in. Some mild depression at times, but nothing serious. thanks for listening.
Avatar f tn It can almost mimic symptoms of Chlamydia in males, except for the joints (occasionally only one initially). The next possible avenue to check would be allergies to something in your diet. Mention these the next time you see your MD and go from there, food allergies can be tested with going to an allergist! Good luck to you!
219241 tn?1413541365 Let me fill you in, shall I? Jump back in time to about 3 weeks ago. (Males, it is right about now you might want to flick over to a football game or a porn site!) My period came as usual at the 3 week mark. Seems the past few months they are quite heavy and then seem to just stop. Ka-put! I used to be a 4 week girl, on the day, I could predict it even t the time of day and I was always right! Ok I am getting on in DNA expiry date...

Avatar n tn Hi Ploggin if you type sjgorens and neurological disorders in on google it comes up with loads of info on symptoms etc. I have dry eyes and neuro problems no proper dx . Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have a little knowlege in some of these areas because of my own fervent search for reasons why my own thyroid med was not working when I started it. I had a very similar reaction to yours, in fact almost brought this up in regard to your problem but was concerned I might be sending you on a wild goose chase and didn't want to plant an unfounded concern in you.
Avatar n tn Weight gain, particularly around your midsection and upper back Fatigue Muscle weakness Rounding of your face (moon face) Facial flushing Fatty pad or hump between your shoulders (buffalo hump) Pink or purple stretch marks (striae) on the skin of your abdomen, thighs, breasts and arms Thin and fragile skin that bruises easily Slow healing of cuts, insect bites and infections Depression, anxiety and irritability Thicker or more visible body and facial hair (hirsutism) Acne Irregular
Avatar n tn Would any heart problem have been found in my tests? In your opinion do you think i can relax about my heart worries? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you for your input and time to answer me. I had all this typed out in the expert forum but by the time i clicked submit two other people got there before me. I thought if you got onto the page to type the question, no other people would be able to take your place?
Avatar f tn You may also have fibromyalgia, although it is less common in males. Don't panic, this does not sound like ALS. My mother had ALS and her symptoms were not like what you are experiencing. I was just recently diagnosed w/fibromyalgia and had a lot of days of panic like you are having, because I was afraid that ALS was in my family genes, even though no one has had it except my mom. Then I got rational again lol! Hang in there and go get your bloodwork done.
