Fibromyalgia in dentistry

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia in dentistry

Avatar n tn Ear pain and most of the time tinnitus are associated with a displaced disk in the TM joint. I've found this to be true in over 90% of the cases (in 28yrs). The unfortunate thing is that we can get rid of the ear pain nearly 100% but the tinnitus gets reduced but not completely in all cases. scottma is correct about the lateral pterygoid spam, but that occurs with a because of a displaced disk. I always have a ENT check for ear problems before treating the TMJ.
Avatar f tn The titanium and cobalt crome are used more frequently in surgical implants (not dentistry) because they hold less of an allergenic responses. Regardless, any allergic symptoms would manifest within a short time after the surgery, not years later. Headaches, vomiting, inflammation would likely have keyed a pyhsician to any problems. The test will tell you if there is an issue with metal, but the outlook of having more surgery to remove pins is something to be considered.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with fibro in June 2007. Last week I was diagnosed with cervical DDD and is scheduled to see a neurosurgeon on July 29. Right now, I have pain in my jaw, right ear, bottom right side to front of gums, and neck. I also have pain in my right shoulder and right arm. Most of the time I have pain in my right buttock, back, both legs and toes. I have missed many days from work because of my illness and the debilitating tiredness. I wonder whether I will be able to continue to work.
Avatar f tn thats why we dont use amalgam in dentistry anymore.
Avatar n tn For a while my dentist has been telling me to have 5 - 6 teeth in front crowned and they all should to be done at one time. I have fibromyalgia so the thought of a whole day in the chair - and the aftermath - is quite daunting, so I've kept putting it off I'm also getting ready to retire and the cost of dental work like this is quite scary. It looks like I'll need to go to a different dentist who's on some kind of a dental insurance plan.

748543 tn?1463449675 TMJ' as it is wrongly called by many) is easy to treat and self-manage or that it may all be in the patient's mind. The sources in the article stated that, "TMJ problems were originally thought to be caused by dental Malocclusion but that this was an infrequent cause of the problem". The American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), an organization of some 40,000 of the nation's leading dentist, recognizes the relationship between maloclussion and headaches.
748543 tn?1463449675 One of the most difficult concepts to get across to my TMD patients and other doctors is the connectivity of the Jaw and the Neck. In fact, it is my strong belief that TMD/TMJ should really be classified as a Craniocervical Disease and hence fall under the umbrella of medical coverage rather than treated strictly as a dental problem. To the Neuromuscular-minded dentist, "Occlusion" is an extension of general Postural Consideration.
Avatar f tn I'm a 23 year old woman and I've been having severe and debilitating pain in my neck, back of head, jaw, face, ears, and shoulders for almost three years. Most of the pain is high up on my neck, behind my ears and into my head. I get hard lumps that can easily be felt, and my trapezius muscle swells up visibly. It has gotten continuously worse and nothing seems to help.
748543 tn?1463449675 Symptoms may include headaches, neck pain or stiffness, ear aches, congestion or ringing in the ears, cracking, popping or grating noises in the joint, dizziness and fainting, difficulty swallowing, pain behind the eyes, limited opening or discomfort on opening, numbness in the hands, along with shoulder and neck pain. It seems to me that this should be our moral responsibility to treat these patients. Most members of the medical community are unprepared to deal with these patients.
Avatar f tn as a result of these scandals, the CDC did a public awareness campaign on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and there were commercials and even ads in magazines about this disease. (it is a disease.. IMO). Also, senators such as Harry Reid were involved and these senators demanded accountability from the CDC. Well I have some very unfortunate news to report. The CDC games have begun again (in my opinion) and our tax dollars are being wasted. Here is a video presentation from Dr.
Avatar n tn Also, over the past week or so I've started to have mild pains in the back right side of my head. Not constant, but coming and going every half hour or so....I'm really nervous. I'm thinking brain tumor right away, and I don't want to worry myself more but...I just can't think well and now these other symptoms. I know I should make an appointment with a neurologist, but, can anyone give me their input ? I'm pretty scared with all of this.
Avatar m tn A typical dental implant is made of pure titanium and/or a titanium alloy. In fact, titanium alloys are widely used in both medicine and dentistry, for dental implants, pacemakers, stents, orthodontal brackets, and orthopedic implants (e.g., hip, shoulder, knee, or elbow). Not only is titanium strong, but many consider it biocompatible: it forms an oxide layer when exposed to air, and this purportedly results in reduced corrosion and superior osseointegration.
Avatar n tn The area hurt, I felt spacey and really felt like something was wrong. Like my body had something in it, it didn't like. ~2 weeks later I presented with severe swollen glands, earache, and sore throat, fatique, low grade fevers etc. No sign of local infection. Sick with the above symptoms for over 2 1/2 months with that same feeling of spaciness or head fog and that something wasn't right with the implant. The dental implant area hurt and I finally had the dental implant taken out.

Avatar f tn Has anyone had success with alternative treatments? My mom grew up in Northern Michigan, and was an only child, so her dad toted her along on every camping/hunting/fishing trip, and we suspect that she may have been infected as a child or young adult...are the treatments the same for long term infections too? Sorry, there are just so many questions and unknowns! Thank you in advance to everyone who is sharing! I hope everyone is and continues to feel good and have good days!
Avatar n tn He also has had an ultrasound. All normal. We live in FL and he is (was) a big sushi fan. I have read about Ciguatera. He has most of the symptoms, but does not have the hot/cold reversal of sensations. He has not eaten sushi for a few weeks, but I have read that the symptoms can reappear even years after the initial infection. I am not saying he has this, but mentioned it to give you an idea of his symptoms. He is also taking Ofloxacin 300 mg.
Avatar f tn I suffer from non swollen joint pain, lower pack and neck pain, inflammatory chest pain, non itching rash across my chest that gets more pronounced in the sun and when I am feeling bad, my joints pop and crunch (almost all of them), chronic fatigue, dry mouth and dry eyes, frequent and various infections (UTIs, Sinus, Ear, BVD ect), swollen glands, numbness in the tips of my toes, hammertoes and I have a red/purple ring on my left wrist (that no one has been able to tell me what it is - have h
Avatar f tn SITED PAPER COMMENTS IN A PhD STUDY The extensive use of metal implants in orthopedic surgery as well as in dentistry calls for a general attention to their biological safety. Titanium (Ti) is used for many types of implants and is generally considered a safe metal to use in implantation. However, it has been shown that particulate debris, also in the nanoscale range, are released from implants.
Avatar m tn The Flip-Turn is the original, and still the best Sinus Flush. WARNING! DISCLAIMER! The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. Obviously, if you bend over in a shower, there is a slight possibility that you can get dizzy and fall down. You could possibly hit your head, get knocked out, or break something.
Avatar f tn I have been in multiple car accidents but only ended up with bulging discs, whipflash, and spranged something. I was diagnosed with having Fibromyalgia in 2002. I just read in some of my previous doctors notes from 1999 that I had rhematoid arthritis. My blood work came back and my doctor said she thinks I have anemia. I have a doctor's appt. with a Rheumatologist 5/1/08. Too long of a wait. I have Straight Medicaid only.
Avatar f tn ) and I had the worst migraines for a few days (I had never had a migraine before). I got better just in time to pass my dentistry finals. I missed honours by one mark! If only I hasn't got Kikuchi's! Now five years later, and the reason which brought me to this website, is that I am getting similar symptoms again unfortunately. I have had pyrexia of 38-39C (100.4-102.2) for a week now. I have large lymph nodes on both sides of my neck but interestingly they are painful this time.
407149 tn?1211736107 Wow...count me in. I too smell gas/exhaust wherever I go. Burning sensation in the eyes, no different than if I were to be in an enclosed area with strong engine exhaust present. What the heck is this anyway? I've told my wife and she initially gave me the ol' raised brow of skepticism. After showing her a thread like this one, she now believes me and wants and answer or two just like me.
Avatar n tn My hands and feet are almost always cold (in fact, they are right now), and I fall in and out of relatively mild depression. I have been told that carrying the thalassemia trait has no obvious symptoms, but I've been poking around forums a little bit, and the symtoms I experience seem to be fairly common. I'm still looking for ways to lessen the intensity of these symptoms, but for me I've found that maintaining physical activity helps, as well as not oversleeping, or overeating.
Avatar n tn In the next day or two can everyone check in how they're doing? It's helpful to all of us to see how this is all going. Thanks!
Avatar n tn The pain I experience is usually in my left inner thigh but last week it was in both of my inner thighs. The pain is a slicing excruciating pain that is horrible. I have had three children so I know what pain is, but this is horrible pain. It feels like someone is stabbing me. It doesn't happen very often and I have experienced this pain for the past several years. I am 58 years old, I am 5'8" and weigh 165 lbs. I exercise frequently and am in good health.
Avatar n tn My husband ran into the bathroom and got a hot wash cloth and placed it on my neck to try and relax the muscles, which seemed to help, but I can still feel that something is not right in there. When I couldn't get it back in, it seemed to get worse, the more I paniced, and it felt like something was tilting backwards and trying to puncture a hole into my throat. I haven't been able to get a full yawn since then, some due to it hurting, and some probably due to fear of it getting stuck again.
