Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia causes and effects

fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn com There they did tons and tons blood work and physical exam and let me know I also had Fibromyalgia too. From all I read about it and of the few people I do know with it. It truely affects no two people alike! So Nancy: This is what I found on Cushing’s, and I think because some of the symptoms overlaps, a good Dr. does check the possibilities for cross connection of some of these Auto-immune diseases.
Avatar m tn I think that gabapentin causes the vision problems, I've been on 3200 mgs of gabapentin for a long time and I've noticed my eyes getting blurry, I've recently stopped the gabapentin and was put on lyrica and I feel better, I think I need my dose moved up but the gabapentin was really messing with my mind.
Avatar f tn I have Fibromyalgia and can only work three days a week with days in between and have to sleep 12 hours and two short naps during the days off. This year if I do too much during one day, my upper back spasms into a neck/shoulder pain spasm and causes migraine, and I am bedridden. The only thing that provides relief is a hot bath and codeine and 2 muscle relaxants and one gravol. It has only been that bad for one year.
2010625 tn?1329375656 I was just wondering what causes Fibromyalgia? Can Anxiety, Depression/Bipolar, IBS, or Genital Herpes cause it?
1550149 tn?1340004330 In primary fibromyalgia (also called idiopathic fibromyalgia) the causes are not known, and in secondary fibromyalgia the causes can be identified. Primary fibromyalgia is the more common form. Many experts believe that fibromyalgia is not a disease but rather a chronic pain condition brought on by a constellation of dysfunctional biologic responses to stress. Such individuals are thought to be more susceptible to stress because of traumatic personal histories, genetic factors, or both.
Avatar f tn always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants. The neurotin and gabapentin which should help cause me to stumble and get blurred vision.
Avatar f tn Hey nailbox.(That's quite original) Welcome to the forum! Can't say that your case is unique, as two thirds (2/3rds) of patients on gabapentin will experience adverse effects. There may be some changes in your symptoms, better or worse, more or less, if you wish to stick with it. You may also want to look into Picamilon , made by combining a GABA derivative and Niacin which is sold as an OTC dietary supplement in the U.S.A. Not sure where you live.
Avatar f tn No, this condition will not go away, but I have a plan in place now to minimize its effects on my life. I have joined a gym to strengthen my muscles, and am on medication to help me achieve a deeper, restorative sleep at night. So far, so good, even though I was only diagnoses 2 weeks ago! Halleluiah -- it's not all in my head, and I'm not just lazy!
215021 tn?1224886057 RedLabsUSA is a national lab that apparently is able to diagnose both Fibromyalgia and CFS. The test is still a research test at this time. So there is a fibromyalgia - thyroid connection, but there are also people who have been misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia. And on top of that... some fibromyalgia patients can go for years without a fibro-flare.
Avatar f tn Myofascial pain syndrome is another form of chronic pain that can affect the entire body, particularly the face and jaw. Myofascial pain can add to the already annoying symptoms of fibromyalgia, and can contribute to disability and a poor quality of life if not diagnosed properly. I have had fibro for years and most likely also have MPS as well although not diagnosed. I rarely go to a doctor. Many now say that fibromyalgia is a nerve disorder.
Avatar n tn I got on some more sites and read alot about B-12 (and its different forms). Lots of people with fibromyalgia report numbness and tingling like feelings and I saw where the B vitamins have helped them. I used to take alot of vitamins but as I began other programs I limitted what I took so that my clinical picture was more clear. I also read where most people have a normal blood level of B-12 and folate but the vitamin, whether oral, or sl or inj. really helped.
Avatar f tn I have both Fibromyalgia and Sarcoidosis. When I was first diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, the doctor put me on Prednisone and it went into remission. In the past month I have been having trouble breathing so my doctor put me back on them for 1 month. I think I have 3 days left. Question is.. Does prednisone help with fibromyalgia too?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia recently and I am trying to understand it as its making my life miserable and hell. I have very bad pain in my joints, neck, hands, arms, fingers, toes...basically everywhere.Recently, I started to get very bad headaches that continued for weeks and wont go away. Not sure if this is related to fibromyalgia, but my GP prescribed me a treatment for migraines which didnt help. I cant sleep at all and everyone thinks its in my head.
2126606 tn?1346348724 Fibromyalgia is a musculoskeletal condition that is marked by widespread aching and pain in the muscles and joints. Fibromyalgia affects more than 12 million Americans, and women are 10 times more likely to suffer symptoms than men.
Avatar f tn Upper/lower GI studies, MRI of abdomen and brain, all showing nothing. I officially have a dx of fibromyalgia and B 12 deficiency, but I continue to struggle with everyday life, with pain and the sx in my mouth, ear and now throat. I do not do well on Western medicine relative to the side effects. Any suggestion where to go? Could it be neurological, cranial nerve possibly or residual gallbladder sx. Your opinion is appreciated.
Avatar m tn I went to a chiropractor for the first time yesterday and she asked me about fibromyalgia because I am so very tender and tight. She thought I should be checked out. So I am thinking about going to a rheumatologist soon although my mom doesn't think this is the problem. I am a 30 yr old female. I am also tired all the time. I have some problems going to sleep but after I do get to sleep I never want to get up. When I do get up I feel unrested and tired the whole day.
Avatar f tn The cause of costiocondritis could possibly be one of the underlying causes fibromyalgia, which by the way remains unknown according to conventional medical science. It is possible that this was the intended explanation, but in the attempt to oversimplify it, it actually came out wrong. Dr. Lowe from the Fibromyalgia Research Foundation supports the premise that most fibromyalgia patients are either hypothyroid or thyroid hormone resistant.
Avatar f tn Have you been checked for Lyme Disease as it flares up every 4 weeks and causes neuropathy and sleep problems?? Just another thought.
1069644 tn?1276932463 There are other medications for FM like mirapex, even celebrex but all come with side effects so discuss with your doctor and look up side effects. Another thing that works for me and I talk a lot about is what you eat, drink. Foods really affect pain. I learned that the hard way. Sugars, bad carbs, white potatoes, white rice should all be considered. I also take something called Essential Enzyme, enzymes help us digest our food.
Avatar m tn //www.drugs.com/acyclovir.html Let me know how you get on.
Avatar f tn 6 months ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and put on Tramadol ER 200 and 50mg prn for breakthrough. I was also put on Lyrica, which I stopped taking, Concerta, which works very well at a low dose, and Cymbalta 60mg that I take everyday. I stopped taking the Tramadol 2 days ago and feel horrible. I have a script waiting at the pharmacy. Do I go pick it up and taper off or keep going since I'm already this far in? Help me please.
Avatar m tn • Seem to get sick from antibiotics I have been tested for a lot of things and am running out of things it could be. I spent some time at the mayo clinic seeing various specialists and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia basically because they just couldn’t find anything wrong with me so I struggle with accepting the diagnosis. All tests and bloodwork seem to come back normal except a moderately elevated anti-histone and slightly elevated liver enzymes.

659608 tn?1318292966 I am 64 yrs old and was forced to retire from teaching (even volunteering) due to my post interferon tx and/or fibromyalgia and/or polymyalgia rheumatica issues. I write all of the "and/or's" because no doctor has been able to figure it out. I've also had a few spine injections (cervical and lumbar facet blocks) as my old spine has many flaws, but do they cause the head to toe pain? We just don't know.
Avatar n tn It is a connective tissue disease and can leave your muscles feeling sore and very painful and change your lifestyle completely if gone unchecked and unmanaged. Fibromyalgia has been very difficult to diagnose over the last 20 years. The only clear way to diagnose it right now is to do the "Tender Points" check, but there's a catch here too. See, there are supposed to be 18 points on your body the doctor has to press for soreness in order to conclusively diagnose for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn PLEASE get to a neurologist and request a MRI/Brain scan and or e-val for Multiple Sclerosis!!! I was diagnosed with and treated erroneously for 5 years with Fibromyalgia. Despite recurring problems over the years I was able to manage my symptoms but the many meds they had me on did not help. Last year in August I ended up with a systemic GI tract infection with rectal bleeding because I could not defecate for 5 days at a time. No cause ever found despite a whole GI work up.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been told that I have Fibromyalgia and that massages will help, I have also tried a gluten free diet with no significant improvement. Avatar f tn Excuse my poor grammar. I think it is the brain-fog and I also just woke up !
1047234 tn?1253547296 I have Fibromyalgia and am RH negative, as well!
Avatar f tn seek immediate medical attention if you develop any serious symptoms or side effects. and that these side effects may only occur infrequently, BUT SOME MAY BE FATAL. would this statement not really get you thinking.I never had any serious deseases but thought that the hep c would kill me. how irronic. those serious side effects are all that occur in our bodies, for some of us. I never experienced any thing like this before on the treatment.
