Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and your immune system

fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn Here in Saskatchewan they do 7 weeks til blood test then you see the doc 8 weeks after your treatment. So, anyways, do you think my immune system is having a harder time than ever because of the RAI? I do have fibromyalgia and vit B12 deficiency as well, so my immune system isnt that great to begin with. I don't know what my dose was, just was told that it was higher than the usual dose because my type of thyroid is hard to treat.
7864743 tn?1394873296 This is the fibromyalgia community, which does not normally address bronchitis and related weakened immune system issues. However, since you came here, I will offer you a few recommendations. The most likely cause is a viral infection, in which case, antibiotics don't work. On the other hand, antiviral drugs, specially after replication of the viral agents, are ineffective.
Avatar n tn Because they did this in so many different ways I can't tell you which is better, but I can tell you that a stronger body and a stronger more balanced immune system and a diet loaded with the most important nutrients and antioxidants and minus the most common foods associated with inflammation and fatigue can only help. I would suggest that you begin by reading; by now there are many books on fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn I suffer from fibromyalgia and neurophy daily. When the pain is severe I can hardly stand it. Are there any new approaches to this condition. I am taking vicoden, cymbalta, pamelor and neurotyn?
7450908 tn?1390999921 I copied my reply to you from the IWILLDOTHIS thread for convenience. Well, I think you need to rebalance your immune system. Approx. 80% of your immunity is within your gut, so you may need to correct any gut dysbiosis, leaky gut, and to improve your healthy flora, before anything else. Probiotics might be helpful, but they have to be high quality. For starters I would eliminate any grains, sugars, flours (corn -non GMO- and rice should be fine) for a few months and see if this helps.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, the health authorities (in most western societies) that dictate policy and protocol for diagnosis and treatment of such conditions, are oblivious to the fact that society is facing an epidemic of modern day auto-immune and neurodegenerative conditions and syndromes with very complex symptomologies and of course very ineffective and unreliable testing procedures, misdiagnosis or undiagnosis affecting a large percentage of sufferers usually for LIFE!
1139109 tn?1457409935 Thanks for your expedient answer and ALWAYS your help and knowledge!! I am currently taking a good multi-vitamin (******* Gold-for people over 50), a vitamin D-3 supplement, a calcium supplement, and magnesium supplement (for leg cramps)...all from the same company. We are eating lots of veggies and fruits in addition to mostly chicken for protein. Sleep has been an issue for years (according to the Dr.s I also have fibromyalgia). I do drink a LOT of water.
Avatar m tn I certainly will take your suggestions and talk to my family doctor. Thanks so much. I appreciate your taking your time to respond. Gran.
710094 tn?1229312306 It boosts your immune system and has helped many with chronic fatigue and fibro pain . Do a google search . Please try the product .
Avatar m tn I would like expert advice on the medical and immune system aspects of how and why this would happen, why it would NOT happen, or why it is a possibility etc. I don't want to just pull things out of my butt when writing this novel. I am a popular author and wish to inform my readers about the harms of eating GM foods or inorganic meats. All advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn hiya katie i started drinking actimel of a morning as i cannot eat first thing but since drinking these my immune system seems to have got a lot better and i dont pick up half as much but i agree with vabreeze you may have to take extra vitamins....
1450453 tn?1293764571 They will lower your immunity and the virus will take over. You should start helping your immune system fight the disease by taking supplements that support your immune system and adrenals. Doing this has helped us quite a bit. Good Luck to you. It is a long journey.
1839746 tn?1318550406 There are yeast metabolites that are directly and indirectly affecting your immune system. I don't need to expand on how this takes place. The end result is that there are metabolic consequences, impaired glucose conversion and waste products from biochemical reactions that are messing things up creating toxicity and dysfunction. Back in the summer we did talk about the suggested treatment for Pathogenic Mycoplasmas according to immed and Dr. Nicolson.
1692515 tn?1306273648 Having sufficient vitamin D should help you stop getting recurrent Shingles outbreaks, because it is the key to your immune system. Sometimes people don't tolerate oral vitamin D. If this is the case, try to get some sun exposure when the weather permits. You do not have to have over exposure to get enough. So, if you have a light complexion, just 20 minutes should be enough.
666834 tn?1338564994 It is also important that you begin treatment for pathogens and boost your immune system. You can find some treatment ideas in our Health Pages. Some members are finding good results from them and it is factual that in over 50% of FMS/CFS patients there are underlying bacterial infections that aren't picked up with typical bloodwork screens. Google "Co-Cure's Good Doctor List" and see if there is a specialist in your area. As for your relationship, be totally honest with him.
Avatar f tn Just wondering who on the board might have diagnoses of both MS and fibromyalgia. What are your most common symptoms of both? And a question for the medical experts here: does having one of the above disorders predispose you to having the other?
563571 tn?1232494790 I have chronic severe ITP (Immune or Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura)-- diagnosed 10 years ago. I have finally been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after years of severe pain and fatigue. My pain is so severe now I have begun doing more research. I just found this site and read some posts on the connection between clotting and FMS. Can someone explain this connection more clearly to me? Do most most of you with FMS have ITP also?
554442 tn?1221238825 2/ a viral/ chemical exposure which entered your system causing brain and spinal cord lesions, simultaneously leaving the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous systems in a state of chaos. The condition is then maintained and exacerbated by musculoskeletal imbalance in the thoracic region causing irritation of the surrounding nerve ganglia. 3/ a viral/ chemical exposure which entered your system causing a temporary brain injury to the area of the brain that deals with immune response.
Avatar f tn There are suggestions that it is an autoimmune disease. But autoimmune and a weakened immune system are two entirely different things. You should do your own research and consult your doctor, or see a specialist, before taking to heart what your acupuncturist has to say about the subject. He's not trained in the diagnosis or treatment of it. Correct me if I'm wrong-but he's not a doctor. Women with endo.
434278 tn?1324709825 i have been dealing with alot of the samo symptoms and you may have seen my posts first off i would also recommend seeing a chiropractor and make sure your spine is in proper aligment since you mention alot of nerve type pain i would see an endocrinologist my ANA was elevated and they suspected artheritis or an auto immune AKA Hashimoto thyroiditis i choked on bacon almost died and the ENT found the goitor soo i have all the sympptoms of hypo thyroid and the first endo said your normal thyro
Avatar f tn It's frustrating and debilitating at times, doctors make you feel like your crazy. I went into pain management and I just want to caution you....it can be a slippery slope. Try to learn to manage your fibro with diet, exercise (even if it hurts) and alternative medicine. I never abused my pills, I took what my doctor prescribed and never more but my body is physically addicted to these pills I've taken for years and years. I just finished detoxing at home and let me tell you it ain't fun.
Avatar f tn Then if you have done research on the IGENEX tests, you also know then that because the bacteria hides from your immune system, it IS possible for it to be neg, Theoreticaly. I would suggest posting in the EXPERT AUTOIMMUNE section where Dr Garth Nicolson is available. He has written over 300 peer reviewed and accepted papers, 3 world nenown citation papers and sits on numerous journals.
470168 tn?1237474845 Regarding the rash across the face, I do get that, but it doesn't last for long. Do you get the rash across your cheeks and nose and how long does it last for?
Avatar n tn Since you now have auto immune, your system is gradually going to attack at the thyroid until you become hypo, which with your high test levels, it looks like you are there. Starting medication at first can be a pain, you feel terrible from your syptoms at first, you start meds, and than sometimes you might not feel any better for awhile. My symptoms came on suddenly, just like you are talking. In fact completley out of the blue.
Avatar f tn My rheumatologist continues to test me as there is clearly something auto-immune going on on top of my fibromyalgia. Because of other symptoms he feels it is developing lupus and he is treating me for that and it is helping. If it is fibromyalgia it would often be treated by one of the drugs Lyrica (I have had great success with it), Cymbalta or Savella plus an anti-depressant.
215021 tn?1224886057 I think your TSH is too high and you have low thyroid function casiung your pain. I think you should be speaking to someone who will listen and get you on at least a trail of thyroid meds to bring down the TSH range to a 1.0 or slightly higher and increase your Free T3 and see what happens Just my thought.
5682570 tn?1372290919 ) Chronic itchiness medical treatment is behind times, as symptom relieving conventional treatments don't work, since the medical establishment has failed to identify the real cause of this, unless the immune system can correct this. In Fibromyalgia , Neurotransmitter Dysregulation is something that comes up in the research circles all the time!
Avatar m tn Hello, I've had a fairly positive experience with all anti-seizure medications I've tried reducing pain in regards to my Fibromyalgia. I think the reason comes with my belief that there is a malfunction in the central nervous system for some reason. At this time we don't know what the cause is- many new scientists believe it may be neuro-immune. Anyhow, I've responded very well to medications like Neurontin, Lyrica and Topamax. Keppra is another one that has been recommended to me.
Avatar n tn I also go to an acupuncturist and an environmental allergist who treats my immune system. With both of these treatments, and a stable thyroid, I seem to be doing better with the fibro, having less pain and tiredness, and less fibrofog.
1007423 tn?1251208056 Wish I could understand more but I'm really overwelmed right now. He says the MS is my immune system attacking my CNS and the other is my immune system attacking my joints/muscles. My immune system is just CRAZY! Good luck & hope you have an easier time with all this!
