Avatar f tn I'm 21yrs old and 9 weeks pregnant. I work for an airline and sometimes lift 50lbs bags at check in. I've heard lifting heavy weight can be bad and lead to miscarriages. However I've also heard that because I have done this job for the past 2 years I should be fine because my body has adapted to it. I told management and they said the only thing they could do is congratulate me...
Avatar n tn but felt strong enough to get back into weight lifting. Started lifting (w/a personal trainer 3 weeks ago) and left arm is swelling with odd feeling of fullness, and my ring is tighter. I'm inclined to stop lifting since that is the only change in habit that I can identify (there's no cut or infection) but I don't want to just give up. What can I do to reduce the swelling in my arm and should I give up the weight lifting? Thanks in advance for advice and suggestions!

Avatar f tn What is the weight limit for lifting when you're 5 weeks??
Avatar m tn how much weight can i lift..pacemaker put in 5 months ago and seems to be protruding.
Avatar n tn Lately, these sensations are worse when I do mild yoga, stretching and lifting. Muscle pain began when I was young and has not gotten better even though there have been periods when I have felt better than others. Over the years my blood work has revealed nothing out of the ordinary except once a low platelet count and once I had too much bile in my urine but I had been battling a stomach virus for several weeks.
Avatar f tn m a d1 athlete (was) just finished my last season and my doctor says stay active and if anything is uncomfortable to stop and not do it again. However, alot of older women have told me the first trimester is very critical and I should not lift as besser as much. I'm planning it safe and funny light weight. I would defintely look into it if I were you. I'm 23 and 9weeks btw.
Avatar n tn A couple of weeks ago both of my legs began to bother me. They were tight and achy. I have been weight lifting for a few months now and have been doing the elliptical at least 3-4 times a week, usually for about 45 minutes- 1 hour. At first, I thought my leg issues were due to that. I havent done the elliptical in 2 weeks. I saw a chiropractor and since last thursday now, my hips have been bothering me very badly.
Avatar f tn Hi, This is in answer to your two questions, the 1st being the soreness you have been experiencing. You didn't say how long you have been lifting or the amt of weight and reps! Yes your back may be bothering you do to standing, and it could also come from lifting, especially if you are not resting and letting the muscles repair themselves. This is why I only lift every other day! The amt of calories burned is also hard to say as it depends on whether you are lifting low reps or fast reps.
Avatar m tn I try to workout or exercise by walking, running, yoga, and basic weight lifting, all of these cause more pain. I can barely walk the day after working out and I don't even push myself that hard. I am having the worst pain in my lower back and right hip. On my worst days my pain is a 9 and I can't move, I have numbness and tingling down my legs. My right leg has nerve pain from my groin all the way down to the top of my foot.
Avatar m tn Hi, I recently moved and joined a new gym, about a month ago. I had gained 2-3 pounds during the weeks prior to our stressful move, but nothing major. I'm 5'4" and my weight always topped out at 125, max. I go to the gym five times a week, for at least an hour to an hour and a half. I alternate days: cardio, weights, etc. I also *always* keep track of my fitness goals and daily calorie goals with livestrong.com - that's part of what has always kept me in check.
Avatar f tn depends what you are talking about... weight lifting, if you were doing it before you were pregnant then your fine to continue doing what you did at the gym if it still feels comfortable. if you mean things around the house and so on i carry loads of laundry at home up and down are flight of stairs since the beginning im 32 wks now ( no problems) i also have a 4 year old niece i carried early in pregnancy she's probably about 25 or 30 lbs.
Avatar f tn I still have all the pain and its so new to me. Can anyone tell me if this is Fibromyalgia. Does this come on slowly???? or can suddenly occur. PLEASE!
Avatar f tn Weight limits and lifting really depends on your doctor's comfort level. Some say 20lb limit, some say 40. You'll really need to talk to your doctor about your restrictions. Some women are able to do heavier lifting through their pregnancy without any issues, but that's by no means a guarantee. Lifting can put undue strain on your body and abdomen. You want to avoid the stress on your body as in rare instances, it can cause miscarraige or early labor.
Avatar m tn Antidepressants and SSRIs cause a wide variety of symptoms and everyone responds to them differently. Most experiences weight gain, but I've heard of several who lose as well. That being said, it is rare to notice such drastic side effects within the first month of using any antidepressant. It usually takes at least 2 months to notice a difference. My guess is that you've lost the weight because you're no longer lifting weights.
Avatar f tn I work at FedEx lifting my doc told me a 35 Ib weight limit so I do 35 every day for 4 hrs + and I'm now 17 weeks
Avatar f tn For anyone power lifting max weight to muscle failure is not a good thing. It increases blood pressure and can cause bleeding anywhere in brain or eyes.
Avatar m tn There was another study comparing muscular hypertrophy when doing low-rep, heavy-weight lifting vs. doing high-rep, light-weight lifting, and the surprise was that the high-rep, light-weights (to muscle exhaustion) actually produced better results than the heavy lifts. This goes contrary to conventional gym wisdom, but hey, it's what the study said.
