Avatar f tn Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes pain and stiffness throughout the tissues that support and move the bones and joints. Pain and localized tender points occur in the muscles, particularly those that support the neck, spine, shoulders and hips. The disorder includes widespread pain, fatigue and sleep disturbances.
Avatar f tn A person must have history of widespread pain lasting since 3 months and pain and tenderness in at least 11 of 18 areas to confirm the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Treatment of fibromyalgia aims at pain reduction and control of other associated symptoms. Physical therapy, massage, relaxation techniques and exercise may be tried. Sometimes your doctor may prescribe an antidepressant or muscle relaxant if there is no relief from pain and associated depression. Hope you find this information useful.
Avatar n tn She tested me for the tender points and told me that I don't have fibromyalgia. I am curious if what I tell you fits the profile for Fibromyalgia. The lack of fatigue and major sleep issues makes me feel like I may be experiencing something else.
Avatar f tn The pain is commonly located in the neck, shoulders, back, and hip and the tender points are located in the same regions. The tenderness is worse in the mornings and has been described as flu-.like, burning, throbbing, aching, or stabbing. Since you have no muscle pain, Fibromyalgia can be ruled out straight away. Positive ANA suggests an autoimmune disease.
Avatar n tn Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is based on the presence of tender points. These tender spots are particularly located in the neck, back, shoulders and hips. There are 18 points on body for tenderness in patients of this condition. Diagnosis criteria is that pain at 11 of the points may indicate fibromyalgia. The tenderness in these points is worse in the mornings and has been described as flu-like, burning, throbbing, aching, or stabbing.

Avatar f tn Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
Avatar n tn I am referring to trigger points. These are not the same as tender points that are related to fibromyalgia. These trigger points can be extremely painful and can form in almost any muscle. The chronic form is called Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS) Many FMS patients have both. Can you have tender points (and I have far more then 16 tender points) on your body, but it not be Fibromyalgia? PS these points have been like that for months of not years. Avatar f tn I just got back and I only have 6 of the 15 Tender Points. I went through 2 neurologists since October and NEITHER one of them did this test. Is this test just ONE diagnostic feature of FM or is this THE ONE that says you have FM? I think the reason I have these 6 is because I have major back/neck problems since I was 12 years old and am now 38. I have osteoarthritis and have bulging/herniated disks in both my back and neck. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Avatar n tn But I have, and also my 21 yr old daughter has tender skin. I saw a Rheumatologist and what I have is Fibromyalgia. There are other symptoms that goes with this though: tenderness in joints, pressure points all over the body that are symmetrical, etc. The burning/tender skin is a neuralgia type thing, which seems to affect the nerves close to the surface of the skin. You should see someone about this, preferably an Internist or Rheumatologist. Good Luck!

Avatar f tn My doctor wants to go ahead and treat me for lupus and proscribe hydroxychloroquine and repeat the bloodwork in a few months. Do I have lupus, fibromyalgia, or another connective tissue disease? My doctor specializes in internal medicine. Should I go and see a Rheumatologist? There are only a handful in the state of Alaska.
709619 tn?1230165075 As far as i know, it generally is known as a chronic condition. My tender points are always tender to the touch and i always have a certain degree of pain somewhere, luckily not usually so bad to stop me doing things. I have spoke to people who sometimes their tender points aren't always tender.
1943833 tn?1349280189 Sometimes doctors need to be focused in on what your problem is and your post above might help. As far as the tender points go I have never noticed anything different about my tender points than any other part of my body. I have pain all over, and it shifts sometimes to my hands or feet, but basically I hurt everywhere. So don't get discouraged if you don't feel any tender points. I'm not even sure they still use that as the criteria.
Avatar n tn To find out if it's fibro you have to have an exam and have at least 11 of the 18 tender points. This is the diagnostic criteria from the American rheumatology association or whatever it's called. Not all doctors know the right places to check. I have 14 out of 18. I also have the twitching all over, neck, hip, collarbone pain etc....I have a fibro diagnosis. I had MS ruled out with numerous tests.
Avatar f tn My feet and ankles sometimes hurt so bad I can't sleep or walk. I am on Lyrica for fibromyalgia and it makes the swelling worse. My blood sugar is coming down slowly with the insulin.I was put on another blood pressure pill but it made the swelling worse. I have lumps in all the adipose tissue on my body.
