Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and provigil

fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn Hi Kim, I have been taking Provigil for four years and it is the help I need to get through the day. Without Provigil I am so lethargic I can hardly get out of bed. I have CFS/CFIDS and have found that Provigil helps to clear brain fog. I am also taking Wellbutrin and the combination allows me to function. I will never be my "old self" pre-CFS/CFIDS but am able to cope most days. I hope Provigil works for you!
1100837 tn?1267672275 Hey all, The Psychiatrist said he was willing to treat the symptoms that I'm experiencing from the RA and FMS with Provigil (for fatigue) and Effexor XR (for pain). What do you all think?
Avatar f tn I have been taking provigil for 4 days now, and in the mornings, I've noticed fibrofog soon after waking up. Which, by the way, I never had before this medication. Is it coincidence or is it a normal reaction to provigil? Seriously, the benefits outway the side effects, if this is the case. Within an hour after taking the provigil in the morning it goes away, and my chronic fatigue is more bareable, too. Are there any different types of medication without this side effect(if that's what it is)?
Avatar f tn I am on Medicare and my Provigil is paid for. If need be we can look for the medical literature articles which mention and promote it's use. It may be the only way some people with MS can continue working.
572651 tn?1531002957 I don't have MS but I have had experience with real Provigil and fake Provigil BCBS won't cover Provigil, even with dramatic results of a sleep study and literally my going to sleep at the wheel.Even with excessive caffeine I never woke up and most of my days were spent napping. The authentic Provigil samples from the Doctor and the Modafinil, manufactured in Canada, sold at Walmart in US (BUT THE PILLS ARE STAMPED PROVIGIL) are not the same.
Avatar f tn My Provigil (100 mg) runs about $250 a month . . . and I thought that was bad!! What dosage are you on? Do meds vary that greatly across the country? A representative from my insurance company actually recommended that we have the doctor "justify" the medication, and there was a chance it would then be covered. I am in the process of doing this. Perhaps someone else will chime in with more info.
Avatar n tn Today I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and hip bursitis and tendonnitus in my elbow area. I've had pain in my forearm muscles and joint near my eblow for a few months. It started on the left elbow area and then after about month it suddenly quit hurting and being sure and started up in the right upper are and joint near my elbow. Yesterday when it suddenly started up in my thigh, I thought enough, get to the Dr.
Avatar n tn I was put on provigil to help with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. I didn't notice very much of a difference. A strong latte would be about the closest thing I can compare it to. I am on adderal now, and it doesn't over-stimulate me, but at least I can get a few things done during the day, take care of my chidlren, and pry myself off of the couch. I also can feel that my short term memory (which was shot) is starting to slowly come back. My advice.
209591 tn?1267418314 Thanks to a website called Medhelp, I was messaged from several people that were originally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and later with Celiac Disease. After researching the symptoms and my current laboratory testing, I am starting to wonder if it could be Celiac Disease. I am in desperate need of medical advice, from someone that has more experience in Autoimmune Diseases.
984010 tn?1255799738 Also a medication called provigil helps with the fatigue. and Green tea extract helps build your immune system.
Avatar f tn muscle and/or joint pain, debilitating fatigue, headaches, memory loss, difficulty with concentration. Patients with fibromyalgia often have chronic fatigue syndrome as well. Coginitive behaviour therapy is quite helpful in chronic fatigue syndrome and you can go in for this. There is no medication available that can treat CFS specifically, but different medicines like pain killers and antidepressants are quite useful.
Avatar n tn I have my meds pretty much down now (Cymbalta, flexeril, buspar, seroquel, Lunesta, provigil). The state of MD now pays for my medicare and after being on Lunesta and provigil for about 1 1/2 years, medicare decided these 2 drugs need to be pre-authorized. Lunesta is a sleep med. I had previously taken ambien and it made me sleep walk and not remember what I did. If I get in bed between 11pm=12am and take my lunesta, seroquel, buspar, and flexeril, I usually sleep about 10-12 hours.
449658 tn?1211307922 But I do know that new research has found that Hypothyroidism, CFS, Fibromyalgia and MS and Lupus are interlinked somehow as well. Now its just the waiting game for the DR's to figure it all out and make them believe that it is all real. That might take forever. but yes, have them test you for Hypothryoidism. Memory loss, lack of concentration, headaches (but not really headaches more like a pressure)that never goes away. Are just a few more symptoms.
975514 tn?1325001538 In addition to the community here, MedHelp also offers tools to help you and your doctor in your road to wellness. Fibromyalgia and CFS can be so intricate and can have so many different symptoms. Due to this, it is very helpful that MedHelp offers health trackers for us to utilize. We can track our progress and especially our flare ups. Below are just a few trackers that I find useful. • CFS/FMS Tracker - http://www.medhelp.org/land/health-trackers • Pain Tracker - http://www.medhelp.
449658 tn?1211307922 I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and I am waiting on another appt. for further discussion on options to help me deal with day to day life. The below are my symptoms - does anyone have any other ideas about what this could be?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, and the aches and pains(especially legs from my thighs to my ankels) are leading the doctor to think fibromyalgia. I was just wondering about these meds because I NEED some relief and I've heard many mentions of these meds. Can they be taken with provigil?
1171003 tn?1267075703 Again I am NOT a doctor but you are harming your body by ingesting things at high doses to keep you body going. And if you do have fibromyalgia and you are over exercising it causes more pain. Moving, exercising is essential but given how your body is telling you it can't keep going the way it is putting more stress on it pushing it at the gym and drinking energy drinks and taking that much provigil is too much.
Avatar n tn I feel as though it is nerve related and have wondered if just maybe it is Fibromyalgia. I am not exactly sure what type of Physician Specialist to see, but the pain is getting worse not better. Can you please offer me an opinion and a starting point? I just don't know how much more pain I can take. Thank you very much for your time!
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I have just noticed my muscles are getting weaker, I used to work out too and was strong but now my strength and stamina have gone way downhill and I noticed muscles burn even with some light exercise, I hope he can get some help for this, God Bless

Avatar f tn And I don't do the towels and sheets as often as I should... I'm looking into Ritalin and Provigil so I can discuss it with my doc. It seems they give stimulant drugs like these to patients with fatigue from MS, HIV, and Hep C, so why not us with CFS and/or Fibro? It's going to be a few weeks till I can get an appointment with my doc - his vacation. I'll report back with my experiences when I something. Nap-time. Again. Kids want to go to the pool. So tired.
765921 tn?1240408839 So my orthopedic surgeon referred me to my new neuro, and he immediatley decided to do a whole lot of blood work, he says he doesn't think I have MS (hes a MS specialist) but that he really thinks I have fibromyalgia because of all of my pain and all of the other symptoms I have and since I had a normal MRI but also a doctor in the past had mentioned fibro, he said it was more of a possibility. He wrote me a consult for a rhumatologist, and gave me a lab slip for my blood work.
209591 tn?1267418314 I also have been diagnosed with osteopenia and scoliosis, Neuropathy (by a Rheumy) . Current Medications are Provigil 200 mg, Naproxen 2 500 mg tablets, Nortriptyline 3 25 mg caplets, Zanaflex 8 3 mg tablets, Lasix 60 mg, Potassium, Compazine, Phenergan, Corgard and Tranxene.
209591 tn?1267418314 No virus should last this long, for a while nausea and diarrhea plagued my everyday life to the point I was dehydrated and threatened with a hospital stay with pushed fluids. Now, the diarrhea has been back for a week, along with concurrent nausea, no vomiting as of yet. My doctor has prescribed Sublingual Levsin, and rectal usage of my Anti-depressant and other such meds. Have any of you experienced problems like this, and if so what has helped with you?
Avatar f tn I could not let my arms touch the bed or even the vehicle seat or I would have searing pain with external numbness. I have been diagnosed with MS, fibromyalgia, possibly lupus, and a cervical syrinx and transverse myelitis. I hope that you get feeling better really soon. Feel free to keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I like Julia's suggestions. The Provigil has no effect on my sleep if taken before noon (and I'm super-sensative to medicines). At first, for a couple of days, I had trouble sleeping, but it didn't take long for me to get back on routine. I took Amytriptiline for years for fibromyalgia (that my neuro says I never had) and I slept like a rock. You're missed when you're not here--I'm glad you're back! I hope you get over that wretched, icky, tired feeling ASAP.
797195 tn?1240583423 I have been living with MS for ten years and have been lucky. Between taking AVonex and Provigil my relapses are very few and far between. and also not severe.
Avatar f tn I was obsessed with "researching" lupus because I was very reluctant to believe that I could have fibromyalgia, which I've been diagnosed with several times by doctors who look at me and go, "oh, woman.joint pain. fibromyalgia." Recently I had an abnormal MRI and was diagnosed with MS, and even more recently, today in fact! my neuro says I don't have MS. Now I have no idea what to research!
Avatar f tn Yes, fatigue was extreme, but not my worst symptom. Worst was an autoimmune skin condition, which was red and raw and left me with permanent scars. But I basically slept most of the day during tx. 2. I took Procrit and Wellbutrin. 3. Before tx, fatigue and the skin disease were already my primary symptoms. Like many people here, I kept getting odd illnesses, strange cases of the "flu" etc., and always needed a nap midday. At one point I was convinced I had West Nile virus.
