Fibromyalgia and alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Fibromyalgia and alcohol

fibromyalgia

Avatar n tn It is none of your friend's business what medications you are taking for pain. I learned this the hard way and most of my friends assume I am a pill mill addict because of what they have read and seen on the news recently about oxycodone. As long as they see that you are able to do more things with them, they should be grateful that their friend is able to engage more with them in life.
Avatar f tn I am not a diabetic nor any problems with my sugar levels, it's always at a normal level (79/80) I weight 125 lbs. and I'm five foot four and I'm 51 years old. I don't use alcohol nor street drugs of any kind. I read to keep up,on new info for Fibro as often as I can, but slack a bit due slack at times. I live alone as my daughter is grown, married . I've been to foot Dr, she didn't do anything for me. Do you know what I can tested for because of this foot problem?
Avatar f tn I also take Lyrica for nerve pain, Trazadone and Flexeril at night to help with sleep and muscle spasms, and I am on Zoloft and bloodpressure meds. I went a long time with no pain meds then to Tramadol then to Lortab, etc.... I have very high pain levels on a daily basis plus I have a high tolerance to meds so the weaker ones never worked well for me. The meds I am on now help more than anything else ever has and I am so thankful! I still have pain but it is a lot easier to deal with now.
Avatar f tn I have Fibromyalgia and can only work three days a week with days in between and have to sleep 12 hours and two short naps during the days off. This year if I do too much during one day, my upper back spasms into a neck/shoulder pain spasm and causes migraine, and I am bedridden. The only thing that provides relief is a hot bath and codeine and 2 muscle relaxants and one gravol. It has only been that bad for one year.
Avatar m tn People with eating disorders, kidney diseases, cancer, autoiimmune diseases, and anemia should not try this diet. A fibromyalgia detox diet means avoiding cheese, transfat, caffeine, chocolates, candies, alcohol, processed meats and restricting use of salt, sugar and fats. Medicines can be usually taken while on detox diet. Before discontinuing any medication consult your local health care provider. Hope it helps. Take care and best luck!
Avatar f tn Hi, A combination of Lyrica and Methadone has been found to be effective in controlling Fibromyalgia pain. Methadone may be administered alone without a combination because it is a potent analgesic. It is a narcotic analgesic similar to Morphine. However it is not used commonly for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. It has some serious side effects. Risk of serious side effects may occur even if patient has used other narcotic medications and if the drug is used improperly.
470168 tn?1237474845 Does anyone else have both these conditions within the family and especially anyone with autism and fibromyalgia. On a different topic, I have had alot of success recently using dietry intervention. It involves removing all simple carbohydrates (sugar, wheat etc) and all stimulents (ie. coffee, tea, alcohol), and all artificial sweetners etc. You also have to eat something every 2-2 1/2 hours to maintain blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn It starts along the outside of my right wrist, extends to the heel of the hand and terminates in the middle finger. The finger seems swollen a bit, and is very painful. I've lost most of the gripping power in that hand. I had carpal tunnel surgery and a trigger finger release on this hand and finger many, many years ago. I also have pain (some days worse than others) in my knees, hips, lower back, elbows, shoulders and neck.
470168 tn?1237474845 Oh, and I am on both a lupus med and a fibromyalgia med... I am taking Lyrica for the pain, which has been recently approved for fibromyalgia. It knocks a lot of pain out, but I warn you if you aren't on it... it makes you gain weight if you don't watch what you eat. As long as you keep an eye on it, though, you should only gain 5 pounds initially which generally comes off after a few weeks. I am also taking plaquenil, which is used for lupus people.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are getting a little bit of the run around here. You really need to see a Rheumatologist who is friendly to Fibromyalgia. I looked at your profile and didn't notice where you live. Are you in the states or outside? Below is a really good website to find a doctor or provider who knows how to treat and diagnose FM and CFS. Depending on where you live, I may have one more site for you. http://www.co-cure.org/Good-Doc.

Avatar f tn Avoid processed foods and foods that are high in saturated or hydrogenated fats, such as dairy products, meat, and margarine. Saturated fats interfere with circulation, increasing inflammation and pain.Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sugar. These substances enhance fatigue, increase muscle pain, and can interfere with normal sleep patterns. Drink eight glasses of pure water daily. Fresh juices and herbal teas are also good choices.
Avatar f tn I also have had several broken bones...some from falls...wrist and every bone in my ankle. And, broken ribs and sternum from collapsed lung & surgery gone bad in 2001-2002...another long story. Now my question, is it unusual for rheumy to not treat you for fibro? He's new and I'm still not sure he will remain my doctor. My ortho doc that gave me a steroid shot in hip joint did a blood test and discovered my vitamin D level was 7.5 so rheumy is working on that.
659608 tn?1318292966 I am 64 yrs old and was forced to retire from teaching (even volunteering) due to my post interferon tx and/or fibromyalgia and/or polymyalgia rheumatica issues. I write all of the "and/or's" because no doctor has been able to figure it out. I've also had a few spine injections (cervical and lumbar facet blocks) as my old spine has many flaws, but do they cause the head to toe pain? We just don't know.
Avatar m tn • Seem to get sick from antibiotics I have been tested for a lot of things and am running out of things it could be. I spent some time at the mayo clinic seeing various specialists and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia basically because they just couldn’t find anything wrong with me so I struggle with accepting the diagnosis. All tests and bloodwork seem to come back normal except a moderately elevated anti-histone and slightly elevated liver enzymes.
Avatar f tn these facts are stated in any information that you read about klonopin, even from the manufacturer. and is the second leading cause of death related to drugs and withdrawal, second to alcohol. but i really didnt come here to talk about addiction...i need to learn about dealing with my fibromyalgia as i said i have a lot to learn about it...unfortunately i already know too much about addiction. thank you for your help and responses...
Avatar n tn For a wekk, I have been drinking tons of distilled water, and have totally eliminated all medications, and am eating a bland, organic diet (no soda, no coffee and NO alcohol). I am seeing a gastroenterologist on 9/28. Pray for me!

Avatar n tn She did a few things in her office and said that i had Fibromyalgia(keep in mind that she never took blood at that point). She then gave me a prescription for OxyContin 20mgs three times a day and 15mgs of OxyCodone immmediate release for breakthrough pain. After that, she did some blood work and said everyhting was fine. to make a long story short, she upped my dosage to 40mgs of OxyContin three times daily and 30mgs of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain.
1852058 tn?1320162300 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia over 12 years ago. I had every Lyme and tick test there was through local labs and all were negative. I went to 2 Rheumatologists, 2 FM specialists who are speakers for The Fibromyalgia Association and professors at a highly accredited Univ., 2 General Practicioners and a Neurologist. All concurred that I have Fibromyalgia. After years of suffering and a test, early on for EBV testing positive we chalked my FM up to that.
Avatar f tn also have GERD IBS Hiatal Hernia and Fibromyalgia- but wondering too - is this Alcohol Induced pain (excruciating- crying in Pain for 20-30 minutes just after a tiny bit of alcohol) be Hodgkin's Lymphoma or Lupus/ or MCTD?
Avatar n tn I've always had some reaction to alcohol and used to drink about half a bottle of a single serving of wine cooler or less and notice that I still had trouble with the stuff. I had to give up on it. On the positive side, we have less chance than most people of becoming alcoholics, since the slightest amount of the stuff makes us sick.
363682 tn?1299492962 This may be a normal reaction of your body since hot and spicy meals as well as alcohol may cause dilation of blood vessels and increase the blood flow to the area which causes the flushing. However,it is best to have this assessed by your physician.Hormonal imbalance, an underlying allergic reaction, and certain medications may cause this. Have your cervical spine checked by your physician. A cervical spine headache may be a differential.
Avatar n tn I have fibromyalgia and that causes a low tolerance of any kind of alcohol. I especially had trouble with beer and red wine. I would be sick right away and for many days after; vomiting and headache was the worse part. Save your money Don't drink alcohol. I used to have a great time watching everyone else act like a fool and I could remember everything the next day too. I had the important job of driving everyone home after partying. I'd rather keep people safe than be puking for many days!
Avatar f tn and found that I had leaky gut syndrome and infested with yeast. I immediatly changed my diet, NO SUGAR, no Alcohol, no bread, no dairy or yeast products very strick for about 6 months. Took lots of vitamins, enzymes, pre/pro biotics and I can say that it truly helped me. NEVER use artificial sugars of any kind...yellow, pink or blue packets! There are very good sugar substitutes on the market today, that taste good and are actually healty for you...
Avatar f tn I gave up alcohol for 16 months and then realized that it is the sugar that causes the pain - whenever I had smoothies, which were packed with extra added sugar, I got the pain. I also went to a nutritionalist who said my ibs(c) wasn't helping as that meant stuff stays for longer in my body and led onto me getting sibo which could also be causing a backlog and therefore more susceptible to pain after drinking.
Avatar f tn In the meantime, i am eating every 2 hours to prevent low blood sugar and am again suffering with severe nighttime elbow and knee pain. I am a 40 year old female, non smoker, no alcohol or drug use. We live on a farm and produce our own meat including chicken, beef and pork, as well as our own produce. I make our own bread and home can much of what I can't buy in the grocery store. I think this might be metabolic syndrome or perhaps fibromyalgia. Any thoughts appreciated.
